Introduce Yourself

Welcome Ezinne - if you are looking to start a habit of reading and interested in reading Canadian literature, you have come to the right place. have a review of our threads - we post about the books we have been reading each week in SpineCrackers and have a monthly book also. That should get you started.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!
Welcome Storyheart! It is a rainy, dull day in Southern Ontario today also. I am sure that you will enjoy the group but get ready for a growing TBR pile!!!

Maggie, I adore Port Carling, I have fond childhood memories of that town. These days I enjoy it especially when it is shoulder season and not so hectic busy.
Storyheart, the list of genres you enjoy matches almost perfectly with mine, so I look forward to seeing your posts!
Wecome all and enjoy the group.

I have just moved to Kingston this past summer (loving it!). I've got 2 school aged children (12 and 8 yrs old) and a puppy, which is like having a toddler again! haha. He can definitely keep us busy. I am a nurse but have recently been spending more of my time with the family business (selling boats & property mngt).
I would not call myself an avid reader although I aspire to be. I've often thought that my lack of picking up a book is one of my bigger faults but because of this I have heavily promoted reading with my children. I currently have a 12 yr old that loves reading (and may be on par with my total books read, yikes!) and an 8 yr old who is on the same path. My hopes are that, by joining this group, I will be more motivated and engaged in reading. I will read most anything, usually those that are highly recommended by friends/family. When I have the time, I will pick up one of my paper books (haven't gotten into the digital reads yet) but this tends to be before bed, which doesn't leave very much time before my eyes get heavy.
Sarah

Welcome Sarah - it is great to have you join our group! As a nurse and mom too, I find reading is a great distraction and this group has so many great book suggestions and enthusiasm for CanLit!

I love talking about books, CanLit, Indigenous reads, historical and contemporary fiction. I grew up in B.C. but now live in Toronto. I look forward to some great discussions here!

And may I jump ahead and suggest that we add this book as one of our monthly reads for 2018?

I'm totally open to that, Louise, or we could do a Buddy Read, which we did for another author-member Michael Kaan's book The Water Beetles. It was so great to have him included in the discussion.
Welcome Maia!

Welcome Maia, I'm really excited to read your book!

@Maia - welcome, I hope that you enjoy our group, as Louise described in another thread we could be called Canadian book addicts!
A buddy read in the new year would be great! It sounds like it would fit in our pending cross canada challenge too!

Marina Endicott and Katherena Vermette gave it rave reviews too (they are on the Amazon site). I have the book on hold at the library but I may break down and just order my own copy from Amazon because you know, one can never have too many books...

And this is the small Italian group on Canada.

How very cool that Italians are reading Canadian books! I wish I could read Italian so that I could join your group.

I have been a quiet member for a few months and have gathered many reading suggestions from your comments (thank you!). Part of my 2018 New Years reading resolution was to participate in the BINGO challenge and to join in on the discussions - since I find the discussion & connection of a book as fascinating as the reading itself.
I live west of Toronto in Burlington, Ontario. I'm married (to the slowest reader on earth! Ha) and we have 3 school age kids (7, 10, 12) whom I'm raising to be readers. In this tech heavy world, I feel it's really important for kids to see their parents with actual books in their hands, to encourage them to read and be regulars at the library. Living that example! I do like to talk about the books I'm reading with my kids - but adults with common interests are way better!
I was reading your 2017 reading stats and - wow!!! You guys are amazing. I read 47 books last year and was proud of myself. I find the Good reads app such an asset and tracking read & TBR is very motivating. Since having kids I read less, about 12-15 books a year, but in 2015 I put a focus back on my reading time and using precious time wisely and the read titles crept up to 30 then 47 and 47 again. I'm a happier person when I have a book (or 2) on the go.
I've always had a special place in my heart for Canadian authors and tend to over index on them. My in-life book club is not as convinced (WHY do people think "Canadian books are boring"?? I don't get it.) so I'm happy to read and explore with you.
Thanks for having me!
.
Welcome officially!!! I am actually just 45 minutes west in Brantford.
Great to set a reading example... doesn’t matter how slow he is, good for kids to see both mom and dad reading.
Looking forward to your participation in bingo and the monthly reads. :)

Thanks, Susan! Glad to be here!

Another freezing person! Thanks, Megan! Nice to meet you.

Welcome Daphne! We look forward to chatting with you about CanLit!!! I read and LOVED Alias Grace this past summer and hope to read more Margaret Atwood this year!

I wrote for a whole ten years in Dogs in Canada back in the '90s :>)

That is funny because late 90s is when I used to read it cover to cover. I stopped reading it quite a few years ago when it become a general pet magazine instead of one geared towards the more serious dog fancy.
