Beth Mast | 37 comments I've read my first book of the year! It was one given to me by someone kind and thoughtful. :).

It Could Happen To You by Isla Dewar.

(I don't know how to insert a link to the book info.)

I did end up enjoying this book. It was a light enough read for my distracted busy brain. I also stayed interested in the story line. I actually wanted to finish it.

Glad you liked it, Beth. It is an easy good read. To add the link just click on add book/author just above the comment box and put the title in and search. You can select link or cover to show in your comment.

Beth Mast | 37 comments Just finished A Study in Death by Anna Lea Huber. 4th in a series.

Julie | 37 comments I'm excited that there was a new scotland street series book, that I had missed. It's on hold for me to pick up at the library. And I saw that Bertie's mom is still running the book club in the desert harem, so it should be a book with freedom for Bertie - can't wait to read it!

It shouldn't make a difference that your on a device Beth. I see it on my iPad and my android phone. Click reply to this message. Look right at the top of the dialog box. You should see comment to the left and to the right add book/author and right of it (some html is OK). Do you see it? Its not there until you click to make
a comment or the reply button.

Beth Mast | 37 comments Julie, hope you enjoy them! Peggy, I snuck on my computer at work to be able to see the add book link. Now to figure out why I'm not seeing it on my tablet. :/

Beth Mast | 37 comments "Mask Of Duplicity" by Julia Brannon is the lasted book I read. Not sure it counts. But will still admit I read it. :). It takes place in the Highlands as well as London. It is a historical light romance but mystery to it as well. Revolves around the Jacobite rising. A light read that kept my interest enough to read the second book in the series.

Sure it would count Beth!

Beth Mast | 37 comments It's difficult to find a historical novel set in the highlands that isn't a romance. :(. Especially one that isn't so in depth that you have to really pay attention to what your reading. I can't get my mind to focus so easy reads where I am at. :/.

I know exactly what you mean! And with easy reads I can get more books read! Romance just isn't one of my favorite genres, but a light one running thru the story is okay.

Beth Mast | 37 comments Just finished The Redemption of Reverend McKinney" by Bonnie Frankenberger

message 15: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments Finally finished "The Other Queen" by Phillipa Gregoery. Once I got used to her writing it wasn't to bad. Got me more fascinated with Mary Stuart!

Beth Mast | 37 comments I just buzzed through my first M.C. Beaton book. I stumbled across it at a local dollar store! "Death of a Perfect Wife". A Hamish Macbeth Mystery. I enjoyed it! Light and quick read. Yet kept my interest! I was pleasantly surprised. :). Now I'm wondering if I need to read the series in order?

If you want to keep Hamish's love life in order it might be good if your planning on reading them all. They are light easy reads that still pull you in! I love them. It's like going back to visit old friends each year when the new one comes out.

message 18: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments I think I'm going to go back to the beginning. Keep the books on hand when I need a book like that. Never would have tried it if it hadn't been for this group!

I collected them all & then read them straight through, one after the other. That's my preference for series, since the next book(s) often refer to things that took place in previous books, & I can't remember i too much time has gone by since I read the last one. At least tht's what works for me Beth.

message 21: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments I usually do that. I might. It's going to be difficult for me to purchase the books.

message 22: by Kate (new)

Kate | 32 comments Do you haunt used book stores? Or trade online? I don't have much $$ to spend on books either, but I've figured out ways to get them pretty cheaply. Beth, my used book store is changing formats & I have $150 in store credit that I have to use by June 30! YIKES! So I will look for Hamish books for you & send them to you. I'd rather do that than see my credits go down the drain! Or if you trade on BookMooch, we could do it that way. Let me know which ones you need.

message 23: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments I do haunt used book stores. It's one of my favorite things to do. Even if I can't purchase a book that day, I still love to go. :). There is one about 45 minutes from me that I haven't been able to go to in a long time. I called and they have some! They couldn't tell me the titles though. The staff member knew the author and knew they had some. I'm hoping to get there this week. I really appreciate your offer! How very kind. Use the credits for books you want to read. Even if you think you will never get to reading them. You can't have to many books!!! Gosh, everyone is so thoughtful here. Love it!

message 24: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments The bookstore only had two Hamish books.

Kate | 32 comments Beth wrote: "Use the credits for books you want to read. Even if you think you will never get to reading them...."

I'm trying to Beth -- the problem is that it's hard to find books I want to read -- I have my wishlist written out & I take it with me every time I go but it's usually hot in there (actually it's me -- I get hotter quicker than most people) & then my back doesn't like me to stand up very long, so I can only hunt for about 1/2 hour before I have to leave. Last time I was there, I scored a hardback The Winds of Marble Arch and Other Stories for $20, & several other books, so now I'm down to $125 credit but I don't think I'm going to find that many books I actually want in the time I have left. I'm thinking that when it gets close to June 30 I'll go in & just scoop up anything, just to use the credits, & then list them online.

message 26: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments I'm sorry you get so hot. I always have to go to the bathroom. :/ I have a hard time finding books on my tbr list. Makes me wish I owned my own used book store!!

Me too Beth! And this UBS doesn't have a bathroom for the public, which makes it even dicier!

I was in shopping again yesterday. Got $45 worth of books, & thought my credit total would be >$100. But no. Now it's down to $135. Evidently Scott forgot to add something in last time I was there. So I'm probably going back again today to see what else I can find. I'm getting frantic about being able to use all this credit up before the 30th!

message 28: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments At least this is a good frantic. :). Can they order books for you and use the credit?

message 29: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments Finished The Gawk Storm by Namcy Brysson Morrison. Sad but well written short novel. Thanks to a special lady from this group that sent it to me!

It was a sad story. Very old fashioned.

Kate | 32 comments Beth wrote: "At least this is a good frantic. :). Can they order books for you and use the credit?"

No, credit had to be used on books in the store. But ... I'm happy to report that I managed to use them all last Monday. Whew! But of course I have been working to get my TBR mountain whittled down & adding 42 books to the 670 or so already in the pile blew that plan all to pieces! I'll have to do some frantic reading to get back to where I was!

message 32: by Beth (new)

Beth Mast | 37 comments Your tbr list may have gotten longer but at least you were able to use up your credits!

That's all you can do! I'm not going to make my Goodreads challenge for the year. Poor year. Only 49 books this year so far!

I've just finished A Smile in One Eye: a Tear in the Other by Ralph Webster. It's a great read. http://piningforthewest.co.uk/2016/11...
