A Place For One Half-Star Reviews

Ever read a book so dissapointingly bad you cried? Is there something you tried to read but had to put down out of boredom? A book that infuriates you? You can rant your heads off here and tell us why you didn't enjoy any book. Just don't scream too loud or you'll get shushed- we are in the library, after all!

The Feline Felon (bookfeline) i hated Crossed and Reached but Matched was ok I guess

OH MY GOSH ME TOO

The Feline Felon (bookfeline) 2 of my sisters read those and there like I loved that series and then they said i should read it so I did and was not at all immpressed

The Feline Felon (bookfeline) i really hated the 2nd and 3rd books just really lame I would rate 1st 4 stars

message 6: by Aliza (new)

Aliza (ashascott12) I did not like any of the Divergent books but I angrily made myself read them all so I could just finish the series and be done with it. I'm glad they didn't split the last book into two movies. It ends for good this year.

The Feline Felon (bookfeline) actually Asha they r splitting it in 2

message 8: by Aliza (new)

Aliza (ashascott12) Ughhh no, I thought they weren't! I'm getting tired of this splitting-the-last-book nonsense. Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows needed it. All these others? Not so much. That's why I felt Mockingjay: Part II was so anticlimactic.

Ellie (tiggyfitch) | 22 comments The Catcher in the Rye.... Ughhhhhhhhhhhh..... HOLDEN WAS JUST SO ANNOYINGGGGGGGG FGS

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I just get so annoyed with misleading blurbs... I'll pick up a books and it'll look so amazing and have an amazing summary but then I open it up and what do I get? BURNT BEANS! RAAAAH!! =:O

snaps Ellie wrote: "The Catcher in the Rye.... Ughhhhhhhhhhhh..... HOLDEN WAS JUST SO ANNOYINGGGGGGGG FGS"

I loved The Catcher in the Rye. Holden was supposed to be annoying haha. J.D. Saligner made him sweat angst to show how he matured through the beginning to the end.

Grace Crandall (gracecrandall) | 57 comments At one point I read a book called 'Amazing Grace' because I thought hey, it'll have some connection to the hymn. Fun, right?
But nooo. It was about a girl named Grace who was an amazing celebrity tennis player, and she had to travel incognito to Alaska because she was just too famous and it was just too much, and in Alaska she meets some guy who is repeatedly described as 'cute' (with no other character traits at all) and she falls in love and gets drunk and then goes back to her rich celebrity life at the end and nothing interesting happens at all.
It made me feel a little sick, to be honest.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I also didn't like inheritance by Christopher the Eragon series...don't get me wrong he started off good and strong but...the ending...HATED IT!! I literally had to push myself to finish...maybe it was bc he took soo long to release the books and I just lost interest but I doubt it...bc if I really like something I can wait even if it kills me!

♥ Emily ♥ (emily_turtle) | 298 comments I actually liked the Inheritance books a lot but I didn't read them until all 4 were out... So that may be part of it

message 19: by Shay (new)

Shay (shayreader) Yeah. I felt like it started to drag a bit in the last book.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I just edited my to-read list XD

message 21: by Rhys (new)

Rhys (haydenrhys) I didn't like the 5th wave as a book at all. I forced myself to try and read it 2 times but the two times I tried I could only get 100 pages in and I was like "ok if you don't want to read this go read another book". I liked the movie just not the book. Idk why. The same thing happened with Harry Potter. I tried reading the first one and got like 100 in and was like nope. I didn't even watch the movies. My family also does not like Harry Potter

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Aww you didn't like the 5th wave? That's one of my favorites, but I understand why some wouldn't like it. There are a lot of unanswered questions and so many plot twists that you start to wonder if the author even knew what he was doing Lol XD

The sequel, The Infinite Sea, is even more confusing, but I personally enjoyed the metaphors and strong science fiction

emily star ✨ (emilysbooksnbaubles) | 9 comments I am always totally disappointed with books that everyone seems to like and that are hyped or at least talked about a lot...

So many people seem to like the books of Tahereh Mafi and I really was excited about starting the series, but the story Destroy Me did not get me at all... :( With books like that, it's as if soap bubbles are completely destroyed and I am not in the mood to try it again with this author...

message 24: by Hallie (new)

Hallie (inkyhallie) Snowflake, I read Shatter Me recently, and my review on it came out today: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 25: by Shay (new)

Shay (shayreader) Twilight. I liked the books pretty okay until the movies came out. Everyone started talking about how amazing the movies were and i hated them.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

To be honest, I was never really into Twilight. This is an extremely unpopular opinion of mine, so I never say it out loud, but vampire books don't intrest me much at all. I'm more of a robot/alien/futuristic alteration kind of person :)

message 27: by Shay (new)

Shay (shayreader) Yeah. I used to be super into vampire books years ago, but not so much anymore. I started to realize they were all the same and they weren't unique.

message 28: by Grace (new)

Grace Crandall (gracecrandall) | 57 comments I was always under the impression that not liking Twilight was more of a badge of honor than an unpopular opinion... I'm kind of a hipster when it comes to books anyway, so I didn't read them because it seemed like everyone else already did :}

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess I really should be more open though, these days its a stretch to get anything not dystopian or YA that involves suffering or some sort. I'm a bright noodle but a dark reader! >:D

message 30: by Funky Fish (new)

Funky Fish (goodreadscompetitcroissant) | 195 comments There aren't really any specific books that I'm here to rant about, but I really dislike when books have a damsel in distress who always has to be rescued by their handsome, strong Prince Charming. I will admit that my opinion on this may be due to the fact that I'm attracted to girls instead of guys, but having a female character completely depend on a male character just sickens me. I believe that most books should have a good message behind them, especially in YA fiction because teenagers' minds are impressionable. And the message that all girls need in life is a big strong man to look after them is an extremely unhelpful moral to be sending the reader. Both girls and guys should be taught to be independent and not to rely on someone from the other sex to come and save them. Romance is not the most important part of life, and one doesn't have to always have a boyfriend or a girlfriend just to be happy.

Sorry for ranting! This is just a topic that I'm quite passionate about.

message 31: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault I was forced to read The Little Prince in my elementary french class, and it was the first book I've ever hated.

message 32: by Kath (new)

Kath (accidentallydies) I only have a few books that I hated.

The most recent one that I've read is Zac and Mia by AJ Betts.

Zac was okay as a character but Mia irritated me to no end. In this book, the two main characters have cancer and in the beginning, Mia was so whiny. She made it seem that not attending the formal was her biggest problem compared to healing her recently chopped off leg. She ran away from home simply because her mother, who cared enough to even bring her to a hospital, agreed to have her leg removed. Her biggest problem was not looking attractive to the eyes of others because of her hair and leg loss. Honestly, that's fine because everyone is entitled to feel that way. I know that my self esteem would definitely plummet if that happened to me. However, no one is entitled to treat everyone who cared for them like garbage just because they feel like shit themselves.

Then suddenly, towards the end of the book, she changed. It made me even more frustrated because there was no progression. I believe that the beauty of reading a book with a character like Mia is seeing them slowly grow as a person but I didn't see that. It seemed that she went from selfish to caring overnight and I hated that.

Sorry for the long post, I got too carried away haha

message 33: by Cosmos (new)

Cosmos | 418 comments One book I really hated was THE GREEN MILE by Stephen King. It was boring, and the supernatural part was so unnecessary. I also hated Face by Tim Lebbon Face. Another boring horror novel that should never have been written. The characters are one dimensional and the plot is damn silly. I gave this one 1 out of 5 stars.

One more AWFUL book is Creatures of the Pool Creatures of the Pool by Ramsey Campbell . A spineless attempt at horror that fails miserably. I hated the characters, the book was too detailed, and the plot line weird and unscary.

message 34: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault Oh you didn't like the Green Mile? I haven't read it but I loved the movie.

I actually really liked LFA, though I can definitely see why others wouldn't because of the content is a little, um harsh XD The funny thing is that most people I didn't really understand some of the events at the time I was reading it, so later I was like OOOH MY GOSH

message 37: by Lilia (new)

Lilia Snyder | 46 comments @Aurelius The only reason why I continued to read it was John Green

message 38: by Aurelius (new)

Aurelius | 973 comments Lol that's the only reason why I want to read Paper Towns XD also it has a movie
