My favorite is from the blurb for a book:

"The world ended on a Thursday."

Had me hook, line, and sinker. Simple and to the point. :)

The very thing that yanks me out of the created world.

I read it as part of a group read. I loved it, even though it had its flaws. But a few people in the group read didn't like it much at all. I couldn't disagree with their complaints. I just enjoyed it in spite of the issues they brought up. :)

Sometimes it just works that way. Unfortunately, too often it doesn't. :(

Great article, Rick! It touches on the implied contract between author and reader, that the author will do their best job to provide a good product to the reader in exchange for their money. If someone is going to invest their dollars and time to read your story, you owe it to them to give them your best.

Rick Langford | 35 comments Thanks for your kind words, Steven. I like the way you stated "the implied contract," which is exactly right.
