Kimonawhim (thebooksmademedoit) Strange song, Neheroth! But not in the bad way; I've never heard anything like it before :) I'm unsure I can form a solid opinion.

Listening to something more light weighted, a german folk-ish song.. It's not my mother language but they make it sound so nice!

Faun - Walpurisnacht

I enjoy all sorts of music but punk is my favorite. I used to play drums in a punk band and still enjoy jamming here and there with my friends. I have been re-living my youth a bit and listening to the old punk-o-rama albums.

One song that sticks out is - strangled by osker

Currently: North Country Blues by Bob Dylan.

I have music on all the time, particular favourites are blues, classic rock, country and soundtracks :) Also love some club stuff for nostalgia...

Sorry for making you rant :(

I guess as a person that doesnt listen to a lot of balck metal that it is easy to lump some bands together, that if you listen to a lot actually sound a nothing a like to a more trained ear.

Quite like Discharge though.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 150 comments Omg well when I'm studying I've tried classical but the violins don't work out for me especially when it all of a sudden gets loud so now I listen to the blues channel on apple music and just what ever the play is cool.
When I want to partay I listen to kpop, hiphop, r&b, dancehall, reggaeton etc.

My favorite album right now is Press it by Taemin the whole album is great but I specifically like "Already"

Not a problem, I have been there too.

One question I find interesting is can you pin down a favourite song ever? Just one. Irrelevant of moods and situations? It stumps people more than favourite film or book.

If I had to pin down one mine would be

I def couldn't pin down a favorite song. a favorite band or album, yes, but a favorite song? not a chance. i also don't think my favorite song would necessarily be BY my fav band...

anyone else been listening to hamilton non-stop (ha!) since it came out? anyone? just me? ok.

(no but, seriously, if you like musicals and/or history and haven't yet experienced hamilton, get thee to youtube straightaway)

Neheroth, my husband and I are into black metal. We just saw Taake a few weeks back. I know he would love to see Sigh live.

My current listening mood has been King Diamond. We saw recently as well on his Abigail tour.

Though I have to point out that I don't listen to music while I read. For some reason that has never gone hand-in-hand for me. I'm happy to discuss heavy metal at any time though. :)

message 13: by Susie (new)

Susie (susiend104) | 265 comments I also used to listen to a lot of metal/hard rock (not so much death metal but it depends on bands), and I still enjoy the old stuff from time to time, but not as much. I've moved more into alternative rock, I think is how I'd best define it, and I'm almost always playing music. The XX, Florence and The Machine, Mumford and Sons, Ben Howard...

Though my favorite will always be the Foo Fighters, favorite song has to be Everlong.

I usually stick to New Age instrumental music and some soundtracks and classical music. I'm pretty picky. I guess it's from being a musician. I like stuff with multiple instruments and counter-melodies. I have a Ray Lynch playlist I use for migraines. It's been a lifesaver.

I can't listen to heavy percussion or random yelling because it'll trigger migraines. I'm also obsessed with "Les Mis" (musical and book). I also like old-time stuff like Glenn Miller and Henry Mancini. The rock I like is mostly alternative, like Depeche Mode, U2, Erasure.

message 15: by Gary (new)

Gary Sundell | 178 comments Well let's see the last 3 CDs I listened to were the complete score to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome by Maurice Jarre, Music from The Rat Patrol Volume 2 by Dominic Frontiere and Alex North and A North Country Lass by Lesley Garrett ( I chat with the producer at times over on the Film Score Monthly message board, his company also released the Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome 2 cd set referenced above.) Tonight I will be watching the US version of The Voice as the battle rounds continue. Is there anything more fun than watching the by-play between Blake, Pharrell, Adam and Christina, well except maybe for a serious kick butt sing-off. Btw, if you like 60s music check out the audition of Mary Sarah singing Where The Boys Are.

I'm a huge fan of the voice, at least the early rounds and the battle rounds, once they go live it's a little less fun for me. In the early rounds you get the judges fighting against each other and it's entertaining, in the late rounds all it seems you get is praise of the singers. Personally, I like a little criticism when they do poorly and you don't really see that.

message 19: by Derrick (new)

Derrick (noetichatter) Jazz all day yesterday, though I did also play the debut album from Suicidal Tendencies and some Marshall Crenshaw.

This morning, it's been all Grateful Dead. Just about finished with a playlist I made called "Pigpen Classics", and then I have 11/8/69 Set 2 cue'd up (from Dick's Picks 16).

Might play some 70's live Elvis after that. Aloha from Hawaii never hurts my feelings.

Look up the song Bludtorst (spelling may be slightly off) one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time

There is absolutely no method to my madness...."

Me too Raven!

Buckley was amazing - so sad he died in that freak drowning after jumping in the river on a lark. Love his rendition of "Hallelujah" and his song "Last Goodbye" from Grace especially. What a crazy vocal range that guy had!

I do like classic Punk on occasion like Patti Smith's Horses or Easter albums or even the more recent song "Gone Again" that she wrote after her husband's death .. she's half poet, half wildwoman!! And I like quite a wide range of music, but I do generally go for singer/songwriters most often.

Lovett and Of Mice and Men are great! Joplin was something amazing - pure passion, she was!

One of my favorite more recent singer/songwriters is Sufjan Stevens. I think the albums Chicago and Age of Adz are both brilliant!

How fun that your husband is a drummer. Does he have a band so you can go see him play?

Love the Springsteen tribute, and hey Raven, Blondie and Marianne Faithful are both great!

But Trampin is a newer one by Smith and doesn't capture her crazy early energy - the early stuff is very different, the stuff before she "retired" and then came back a great many years later. She's considered the so-called 'godmother of Punk' but what she did was at the beginning before punk really existed so it really is all on its own with other bridge groups like Velvet Underground.

A few random song links - maybe you'll like them, maybe not (such a huge variety in music and musical tastes!!), but they give you a better flavor for what she was like in her heyday:

Nan (notanumber) It's funny to see prog-rock fans. King Crimson is perhaps my favorite one all-times, along with Camel. These days I find myself listening to prog-metal. Like Opeth.
I find it funny that lots of people who love prog-rock hate prog-metal. Both are loud, and influenced by classical music. prog-rock tends to be more affected by folk music.
