It's time to start nominating books for April's Group Read, and this month's theme is shadow horror......creeping, silent and deadly.

Let's see what we can find to fit the bill.

As always, seconding books increases the odds those books make the final poll, and nominating your own books is still a no-no.

I'll start us off by suggesting
The Dark by James Herbert

No One Gets Out Alive No One Gets Out Alive by Adam Nevill I have enjoyed the 2 books I've read from him. they are actually scary!

Char | 17465 comments The Drive-In by Joe Lansdale.

The Drive-In by Joe R. Lansdale

message 9: by Michael (new)

Michael Hicks (michaelpatrickhicks) | 989 comments I've been wanting to check out James Herbert, so I'll second The Fog, along with Lansdale's The Drive-In.

I'll toss in a couple Mary SanGiovanni title's I've had my eyes on that may fit the bill thematically:

Thrall by Mary SanGiovanni
Thrall

The Hollower by Mary SanGiovanni
The Hollower

Monika | 21 comments I would like to second The Fog and The Dark. I haven't read any of James Herbert books but he's been on my radar for a while now. I also would like to second Adam Nevill's House of Small Shadows .

Stinger by Robert McCammon is something I've been wanting for read for a while so I'll toss that into the mix as well.

message 11: by Nickronomicon (new)

Nickronomicon | 179 comments I've read a few of Adam Nevill's books and loved them. I'd say he definitely fits the theme. I'll second House of Small Shadows and No One Gets Out Alive

Though if we want some dark creepy stuff, I've got to throw out some Laird Barron. How about
The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All Stories by Laird Barron
The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All: Stories
or
The Light is the Darkness by Laird Barron The Light is the Darkness which is on Kindle Unlimited

message 12: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Carey (janeefficiency) I'll also second (or third, or fourth) House of Small Shadows, and nominate The Sleep Room.

Me too. Or, third it rather. That or The Night Boat

I'll second McCammon's THE NIGHT BOAT; although I'm not sure that qualifies as "quiet, creepy horror". I think McDowell's The Elementals by Michael McDowell fits better, but not sure if that was already a "group" read.....

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it qualified as the theme.

message 19: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5364 comments I would second the Elementals also.

message 20: by Dylan (new)

Dylan I would like to nominate Follow You Home by Mark Edwards

I've been wanting to read this since seeing it as a nominee for best horror book on Goodreads last year. I've never read the author but the reviews are pretty positive and it seems to fit the theme!

message 21: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I second Follow Me Home.
That looks great!

message 22: by Monika (new)

Monika | 21 comments Ohh... Follow You Home looks promising. I'll support the nomination as well :)

message 23: by Jane (new)

Jane Jackson (janejackson91) | 28 comments I'm torn between nominating two books, but will save the second one for next month. This month I'd like to recommend something a little different, something to shake things up a bit. How about an indie book? It'd be interesting to compare the styles of that and a normal mainstream author. "Once Bitten, Twice Die" by Antony J. Stanton, for example? Some excellent Goodreads (and Amazon) reviews...

An EXCELLENT choice...fits right in with the "shadow horror" theme.
