The Mystery, Crime, and Thriller Group discussion

The mystery, crime, thriller, and suspense genres have been my favorite to read since I was a kid. I read my first mystery book at a young age and I never stopped. While I do try to broaden my reading horizon, these types of books are my go to! The only types of books, for me, that never get old.

Hi! Yeah Nancy Drew is what encouraged me to read and started my love for the mystery genre. Sad to say I haven't read her for a while, I think I am seriously do for a re-read. I also hope to hear what you are reading.

I think Nevada Barr is fun if you like outdoor mysteries, Val McDermid from Scotland, Mark Billingham, Tess Gerritsen (medical mys), Jeffrey Deaver, Linda Fairstein, Karin Slaughter, I could go on forever. You are in the "write" hands.

I've not heard of Nevada Barr - but with you on the other authors. I now have more books on my Kindle that I could ever read and 90% are murder mystery/crime thrillers. Never enough time to read everything and always discovering new authors through this group

Welcome, Rebecca. My wife and I both like Nevada Barr and Tess Gerritsen. We also like Craig Johnson and Alexander McCall Smith

In general, I like Nevada Barr, but I find the stories uneven in quality. I loved the story set in Natchez Trace but the one set on Ellis and Liberty island was not as strong, IMHO. I'm starting to think consistency is as important as quality. Dennis Lehane is consistently good. The Hamish Macbeth mysteries are too cozy for my tastes, but they're good and the quality is pretty much consistent throughout. I like "reading" them in my car (with my wife) on long trips. Ditto for Nero Wolfe, Agatha Christie and some of the other classic writers.
