Reading Sprints

What is the Reading Sprint Relay?

The Reading Sprint Relay is 24 hours that we try to fill consecutively with Reading Sprints from each of you!

How it Works

★ The Reading Sprint Relay will start at UTC, Time Zone 12:00 Midnight UTC Sunday, March 20, 2016 and run until 12am Monday March 21st.
★ Day will be split into 30 minute sprints
★ To begin, sign up for no more than TWO sprints, which can be back to back, or at different times
★ About 5 minutes before your sprint is to start, post that you are ready to begin.
★ If you haven't checked in just prior to sprint time, your sprint time may be given to anyone around to take it.
★ During the 30 minutes ~ read, read, read!
★ When your 30 minutes is up, come back to report completion and how many pages read.

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Ok. I Finished 25% to 34% and two chapters of my book in my 1/2 hour. In the 30 min before I listened to the story on Audio.

Is it ok to do Audio instead of reading pages? I have both formats for the book but I can get some crocheting done if I listen :D

I typically sleep around the same times, or at least I go to bed at the same times ~ whenever Hubby is tired. But I have the occasional times when I'll stay up all night for something like this. It's fun. :)

Typically I wouldn't even be tired til around 4am but since I was up before 6, I'm already a little sleepy. I might crash and burn at some point, but if I close my eyes for an hour I should be good for a while. :)

Just finished my 2 hours with 75 pages of Vampire Academy.

I'll pick up some more spots later on if no one else steps up to take them since I will likely be reading anyway. (Tentative 2-3 PM and/or 6-7 PM unless someone else wants them. I'm flexible.)

Karsyn (imzadi) Yay Bobbi! Sounds great!! :) I enjoyed Vampire Academy when I read it. Didn't care for the spin off though.

I'll put you down for the first set, the 2-3 for now, and we'll see how the day goes, and you can change it if you need to. Hopefully we'll have some more people join in! :D

message 43: by Rylie (last edited Mar 19, 2016 10:12PM) (new)

Rylie | 298 comments My hour went pretty well. Now that I've finished On the Edge, and loved it, I'm reading
The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks for the ATW challenge, Australian author.
My hours were a lot more fun when I was reading On the Edge. This book is pretty hard to read. I'm not sure about pages because my version doesn't read them out to me, but I'm on chapter 10 of 28, I think?
By the way, this book doesn't happen to have a dark cover, does it? One can hope...that's the very last book that I have to read in the LRPG.

And yeah, Karsyn, I know what you mean about staying up all night for things. I was a part of Relay for Life for years, and this sort of reminds me of it, though not even close to as serious, obviously. I would be so so tired by the morning, but it was totally worth it.

Also, if no one else takes them, I'll claim the 3:00 to 3:30 PM and 3:30 to 4:00 PM slots.

message 44: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Glad your hour went well Rylie. Nope, not a dark cover. It's actually yellow/gold with a harp on it. Would have fit well with the strings LRPG if you hadn't done that yet. :D

Wanna tell me some books you wanna read soon and I can tell you if they are dark? Or I could just tell you a few on your TBR that are dark, if you want me to.

Staying up all night is fun. My Hubby can't even make it past midnight on His days off, but in His defense, He is up early all the time, the latest He's slept in recently was 8. I enjoy the occasional night up, but I'm usually more rested than I am right now.

message 45: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments Hmm, I'd like to either fit it with one of Amanda's books or Renee's. Those are the only 2 mods i have left. I've been doing pretty good at finding books to fit the LRPG and the road to St. P. Even if it's not on my To Read shelf, I can pretty much get any book I want, so if any of their books have dark covers, that would be really helpful to know.

I'm terrible at staying up all night. I do really well until about 8 in the morning, and then I get really tired really fast. And, there goes my schedule, because I will always end up falling asleep, no matter how much I want to make it through the day. That's why I don't let myself do it, even if I feel like I could. Cause I can't. Lol.

message 46: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Here ya go!

Amanda Dark Books ~
The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima The Spirit Thief (The Legend of Eli Monpress, #1) by Rachel Aaron Honour And The Sword (The Chevalier, #1) by A.L. Berridge

Renee Dark Books ~ Meh, iffy on them, the most dark she has
Slammed (Slammed, #1) by Colleen Hoover Don't Call Me Kit Kat by K.J. Farnham

It depends on how dark is dark. Amanda's are fine, Renee's has dark and light in them.

I'm good at staying up all night. My bad hours are usually 3-4, or depending on how long I stay up, about an hour or two before I plan on heading to bed. I always find a 2nd wind though. :D

Thank you Karsyn!
If Renee's count, I really want to read Slammed. If not, The Spirit Thief doesn't sound too bad either. :) The other 2 of Amanda's are so...long! I love long books, but not when I'm in the middle of a competitive challenge. :D
One more tiny bit of hope, is
Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1) by Rachel Caine
a dark covered book? I was trying to fit that one somewhere, but I just couldn't find a place for it. It already has netted me quite a few coins, but dark cover would be the icing.

The second wind is what I don't have. I have a looong firsst wind, and then it just, dies. Speaking of my wind dying, about another 15 to 20 minutes, and I'm going to make myself go to bed.

I would call it dark -- it's darker than The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima at least, but I could be wrong.

message 49: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) That cover of Ink & Bone is definitely dark Rylie! The other edition is lighter, but that one is dark blues and reds. I agree with Bobbi, darker than Demon King which is dark but does have some highlights and bright to it.

Slammed is mostly dark. It has black on the top. The rest is a brownish curtain that is dark except a spot where there's a spotlight shining on it. So, it could be acceptable, I'd say.
