You all have 10 days if you want to try for the minimum :) If not, there's always May!

Like Tien I have library books and there is no way they are going back unread. I will just have to work less and read more.

message 212: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 631 comments Good plan, Phrynne.

I'm actually disappointed with the upcoming long weekend because that means less reading time. I read mostly on the train :(

Maybe I'll just ignore the kids & let hubby do all the cooking etc ;p

Now that seems like a better plan Tien!!! LOL

I loved that book too & I believe the title of her new book (coming in July?) is The Twisted Knot

message 222: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 631 comments And... as I seemed to have gotten fairly short books (>300 pages) this month, I've finished 2 out of 4 (I drew a duplicate one) and have just started my 3rd so I'm confident I'll have this finished next week, woohoo ;)

Thanks for the encouragement Brenda, May looks good but I have study to do in the next couple of months so will be reading less fiction :(

Just finished my 4th book The 6th Extinction by James Rollins 3.5*
The 6th Extinction (Sigma Force, #10) by James Rollins
Had hoped to finish all 5 but I'm 4th in the holds queue at my local library for my last book so it will be after the end of April before I get to read it.
Back to the Autumn Challenge!

message 232: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 834 comments I started late in the month, and have only finished my first, La lettre oubliée by Nina George which I loved and gave 4 stars. Had it been perhaps slightly more quirky, I would have given it 5, but it didn`t quite get there.
Starting the next one today The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway and will push on in the challenge.

message 234: by Tien (last edited Apr 25, 2016 03:17PM) (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 631 comments I finished 3 books very quickly -good reads and fairly short but have been struggling with my last book which I've decided this morning to dnf... I was reading Being Jade and here's why...

I'm moving on...!

message 235: by Bianca (new)

Bianca | 113 comments While the month is not over just yet, I'll declare the challenge as failed by me. I've had the worst reading month in 3 years. I've only managed 3 books, all very light and unchallenging. What can I say, I'm having some sort of reading slump. Well done to all who have managed to complete this very reasonable/doable challenge.

It's just annoying, as it was very doable. This former straight-A student doesn't like failing ;-)

You never fail with reading Bianca :)

message 239: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Bianca, 3 books a month is better than 2 books a month or 1. It creams no books this month :)

I'm with Brenda and Ace on this, Bianca. I know there are all kinds of rankings and ratings and what-not, but really, NOBODY IS KEEPING SCORE! I mean. . . seriously keeping score in a way that should affect your enjoyment of reading.

Sometimes, I'd rather read my New Scientist backlog (I'm always a couple of weeks behind) and let my current book wait patiently for me. Life happens.

Having said all that, I love the challenges because they 'make' me look at different book lists and discover things I'd never had any idea existed. Not unlike New Scientist, come to think of it. :)

message 241: by Bianca (last edited Apr 27, 2016 06:45AM) (new)

Bianca | 113 comments I know, I know. It's just a bit strange to only have read 3-4 books/month, as in the past 2,3 years, I was reading 3-4/week. I'll admit, that was a bit too much. Now that I've finished the first series of Outlander (I was binging), I should be able to do a bit more reading.

I used to read the New Scientist, especially at my previous job. I haven't in the past 2 years.

message 242: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 834 comments I'm so grateful for this challenge that led me to read The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway. Beautiful story which explores the little things people do to retain their humanity faced with a terrible war insistent on destroying civilisation. An element of tension kept the story moving along at a good pace, and I easily gave this book five stars.

message 243: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 834 comments I'll see how much I can sneak in of my third book, right at the end of the challenge, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, I'll abandon the fourth for the moment, and focus on the Autumn Challenge.
