Stephanie | 194 comments Black Beauty by Anna Sewell - the very first chapter book I ever read with an animal in it and still one of my favorites
Walt Disney Imagineering A Behind the Dreams Look At Making the Magic Real by The Imagineers - I feel like Mickey counts for this, and there are really cool concept art for the parks and the movies. Good stuff.
James Herriot's Treasury for Children Warm and Joyful Tales by the Author of All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot - this is a collection of short stories featuring all different kinds of animals. I read this over and over again when I was little.

Karsyn (imzadi) Don't think I've really read a lot with animals for the most part. Let's see if I can come up with some.

The Secret of the Mansion (Trixie Belden, #1) by Julie Campbell My childhood favorites, a series similar to Nancy Drew (only better, IMHO). TONS of animals in the series from the pet dogs (Reddy, Bud & Patch) to the horses (Lady, Starlight, Jupiter, Strawberry... and others I can't remember. They had 7 horses for the 7 members of the BWGs.)

Dogs in a official/police capacity ~

The Fixer (Mort Grant, #1) by T.E. Woods Irresistible Force (K-9 Rescue, #1) by D.D. Ayres The Search by Nora Roberts Dark Summer by Iris Johansen

Rylie | 298 comments I really enjoy adventure books where someone has to survive on the land in the wilderness. The animals are a large part of these books because they are pretty much the main character's entertainment.
My Side of the Mountain (Mountain, #1) by Jean Craighead George and
Julie of the Wolves (Julie of the Wolves, #1) by Jean Craighead George
are a couple of my favorites
An animal book with green in the title...
Green Angel (Green Angel, #1) by Alice Hoffman is definitely a good, short read. It's about a girl trying to survive alone after an apocalyptic event. She mostly relies on her dogs, and the couple of other animals she finds for company and healing.

PS @Karsyn -- I LOVED Trixie Belden as well!!

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments At least 3 books that feature any kind of animal (real or imagined):

Written In Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) by Anne Bishop - the first two books in this series, which I dearly love, have mice in them (plus all sorts of animal shifters).

After Dark (Ghost Hunters, #1) by Jayne Castle After Glow (Ghost Hunters, #2) by Jayne Castle - In these two books, we have Fuzz the Dust Bunny! Definitely "imaginary," but that doesn't stop me from wanting one to call my own. ;-)

Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Bite Me (Demon Underground, #1) by Parker Blue The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster - All of these books have dogs that are in some way "magical." :-)

Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery - My choice for the LC bonus. Anne lives on a farm and there are cows and horses and... I've never read it, but it's on my TBR. ;-)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3794 comments Due or Die (Library Lover's Mystery, #2) by Jenn McKinlay - love this series so much and there's is an incredibly adorably black fluffy puppy named Heathcliff

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss another childhood favorite and features an animal

Bunnicula by James Howe - a "child" story but it is laugh out loud and involved the family pets
