David Estes Fans and YA Book Lovers Unite! discussion

I finished Bentwhistle The Dragon in A Chilling Revelation, and then read pathfinder Legends - mummy's mask, chapter 6: Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh.

Now I'm reading both Bentwhistle the Dragon in A Twisted Prophecy and Fuzzy Nation.

That ending was just amazing. I've come to expect nothing but great endings from Sarah J Maas!

I finished which is an adult contemporary novella about a girl who sees people's emotion in colors. It was a really cool concept, but I feel like the story did nothing with that. I did enjoy the story itself, though.

Reading right now and loving it! I missed Keladry!

Jenny, I <3 it. Absolutely and completely.

I'm reading and it is heartbreaking and breathtaking. Absolutely beautifully written. Completely different than Out of the Easy, which was also an amazing book. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

Totally!....I had read the Heist Society and loved it. I was going to recommend it to you, but then I realized that you were the one who told me about it in the first place! :)

I'm about 80 pages into The Scorpio Races and surprisingly I'm not really getting it yet. I think I'm going to set it aside and try something else...

@David - I really need to read Salt to the Sea! I keep hearing such great things about it.

@Harlee - Aw, sorry you haven't been able to get into it. :( From what I remember, it took me a little while to get into it, but the second half was more intense.

I liked this one a lot better than Out of the Easy as well. I still haven't read , but I need to!

I found it hard to get in to at first too. It gets better in the second half.

Currently reading which I won through one of the side giveaways from this past spring's YASH scavenger hunt. It's pretty fun so far - The Fast and the Furious meets The Hunger Games.

Gahh, I was kinda disappointed in that ending. It was one of those endings where I turned the page and was like, "Wait what? That's it?" (view spoiler)[Dorothy didn't even die!! WTF? :P (hide spoiler)] I know it's the first in the series, but it still seemed like a random place to end the book. And I don't know if I want to read the sequel. Has anyone read it? Is it better than the first one?

And I also need to finish re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I started it a couple weeks ago but haven't picked it up in a while, oops.

@Calitlin have you started them yet? I haven't read much of Ruined but I am enjoying both. I have never read a Alice in Wonderland inspired book before, especially with the villain's backstory. I need to read more villain origins stories. :)

@Michelle - I haven't started either of them yet, I have a few library books to work through first. I am really looking forward to Queen of Hearts. I'm a huge fan of well done villains and villain origin stories! :D

Right now I'm reading Cassandra Claire Lady Midnight and Melissa Haag (Un)wise.

I wasn't feeling good last night so I was looking for something that I could just listen to in the dark so landed on . I really enjoyed it and it was perfect for my sickly frame of mind.

After that, I picked up on my Nook as another easy read that wouldn't require a lot of brain power. I KNOW that everyone has been raving about this series, but I'm a little stubborn sometimes and didn't believe all of you. So YES, I am now kicking myself for not reading this before now. I'm not far in, but loving it already.

Also going to start a new beta read this weekend that I'm really excited about!! **cough cough - David's newest - shhhh - cough **

Jenny, I've heard that Between Shades of Gray is even better than her other two! I can't wait to read it! :)

@Karen - that's okay, I haven't read any Riordan either. He's one of a few big authors I've yet to read anything by. So don't worry. You're not alone!

I started reading them a LONG time ago. I was reading them with my oldest 3 when they were in middle school. They were the books that got my boys reading! We would all take turns reading the book, then discuss it. Fun times!

I picked up the first pjo book when I was 17(or xmas that year). So I was over the middle grade target, but its still one of my fave series.

If it makes you feel any better... It was only in the last couple of years I read the Percy Jackson books, even though I'd seen the movies when they came out, and knew I was probably going to enjoy them (I actually enjoyed the books more than I expected to; I think the books are better than the movies).

So jealous of your beta read!

@Karen - Glad you are loving The Lightning Thief! PJO has been one of my favorite series since middle school, so it has a special place in my heart. I've read the whole series several times, and I never get tired of it. :D Haha I know what you mean about being stubborn when it comes to hyped series ... honestly I didn't read Harry Potter for a super long time because of that!

I don't read enough of villain stories. I should probably go find some. I like knowing how someone turns out but going back and reading how they got there is really interesting to me.

I finished and was completely blown away. It was fast-paced, had a tight plot and was deeper than I thought it would be. I loved each of the "main" characters and especially loved what Cline did with Aech.

After that, I moved onto and . I LOVED Carter's Heist Society novels. They were fun, not too deep and carried enough action to move the story forward. This series, though, just didn't do it for me. There seemed to be a LOT of just walking around and talking, not to mention the fact that no one in the embassy can close the door behind them while they're having meetings, leaving our MC able to eavesdrop. I read the phrase "the door was open a crack" so many times I wanted to hurl the book across the room. We are in an embassy people!

Finally, I read
After getting past brunet, gage and canvass, I was left with a ridiculous backstory of how slayers were created. Throw in an honest-to-goodness love triangle and the mention of hot, muscular men, and you've got yourself a doozy--or you know, a typical YA read. All that being said, it was still an entertaining read, and the action picked up a lot at the end.

So glad you like them! I guess we all have a series/book that we refuse to read for years because of the hype. :)

Ready Player One!! Seriously loved loved loved it!! Can't wait to see how the movie turns out! And yes, Aech was wonderful!!

Brigid, I did the same thing with Harry Potter! I had one of my male employees stop at my desk, look into my eyes, and told me I needed to read Harry Potter NOW! He SHAMED me! Hahahhah!! I happened to have books 1 - 3 that I bought for my nephews (they left them with me), so I picked up book 1 that night. I finished book 3 that Friday night at 8 and jumped in the car and hurried to the nearest book store and bought 4 - 7 and marathon read those! And now reread them numerous times, I love them so much!

What is wrong with me?!! ;-D

Wow! That is so exciting! And Spielberg directing. :) *squeal*

I loved how subtle the book was on the deeper issues. It really packed a punch but wasn't in your face about it. This one's up there with Unwind and TKONLG for me.

I never read it either until a few years ago until my brother finally handed it to me. And then it was a binge read, cry fest.

I finished reading Fuzzy Nation early this morning... Loved it!

Elora! Harriet the Spy is one of my ALL time favorite books. I read and re-read that book so many times my copy was worn out when I was in grade school.

I haven't read Harriet The Spy yet, but I want to; I've seen the movie several times, and absolutely loved it. I'm hoping that I love the book as much - or more - when I finally get to reading it.
