If you're looking for something kind of like Ready Player One, Erebos by Ursula Poznanski is better than The Eye of Minds. Not as good as Ready Player One, but it has some great thriller type of moments, a good twist, and is different enough that I wasn't comparing them while I was reading.

I'm still trying to read Machinations (Machinations, #1) by Hayley Stone and even though I'm halfway through, I'm still not feeling it. This may be a DNF. :(

I started The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan instead.

Just finished the audio of Sleeping Giants (Themis Files, #1) by Sylvain Neuvel and loved it in spite of the narration of The Nameless Guy. ;)

Also finished Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel . Not sure what all the fuss was about for this book.

Rham (Reads and Wanders) (rhamichu) | 115 comments Currently reading Snow Like Ashes. Im 10% ahead and excited to see the story unfold

message 1059: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 449 comments I read Eon Dragoneye Reborn (Eon, #1) by Alison Goodman and I didn't love it as much as I hoped I would. It didn't seem wordy when I was reading it, but after I'd finished a chunk, I would reflect on what I read and it didn't seem like much happened.
I just started Eona The Last Dragoneye (Eon, #2) by Alison Goodman , cuz I heard it was better. *Fingers crossed*

Still working my way through Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow , which I LOVE!

I really liked Station Eleven, but my husband couldn't get through the first few chapters. I think what I liked about it most is how all of them were connected.

message 1061: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin (caitlinsiem) | 409 comments I'm a bit behind.

I read The Fireman by Joe Hill (my first book by him) and I really really enjoyed it. It's a big thing but it didn't read like it. I'll definitely read more by Hill.

Then I read The Girls by Emma Cline which I also enjoyed but I didn't absolutely love it. The past/present jumping didn't do much for me.

After that I read The May Queen Murders by Sarah Jude and that just wasn't for me.

Now I'm reading This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab and I'm loving every moment of it.

Finished Georges by Paul rudnik major let down. Starting unexpected everything next

Wow, I haven't updated here in awhile!

First I tried The Truth About Stacey (Baby-Sitters Club Graphic Novels #2) by Raina Telgemeier which is a graphic novel of the original, and I absolutely loved it! Fun bit of nostalgia reading!

Finaly finished The Dark Days Club (Lady Helen, #1) by Alison Goodman and really got into the second half. I'm excited for the sequel!

Still reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen and I'm almost done. This is a very light Jane Austen book, and I'm enjoying it!

Started Summer Days & Summer Nights Twelve Love Stories by Stephanie Perkins :

1. "Head, Scales, Tongue, Tail" by Leigh Bardugo--5 stars. A really cute fun fantasy love story.
2. "The End of Love" by Nina LaCour--3.5 stars. Cute, but a bit dull at times.
3. "Last Stand at the Cinegore" by Libba Bray-- 5 stars, and my fave so far! A really fun love story/thriller!

That's all I've read of the stories so far. There are 12.

Also started The Crown (The Selection, #5) by Kiera Cass and liking it so far!

Caitlin (caitlinsiem) | 409 comments Oh my goodness, Victoria Schwab did it again. I loved This Savage Song (which is under VE Schwab since those books are Adult and this is YA). It's so different from the Shades of Magic books which I like because it shows her great range. I highly recommend.

Next up is Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh.

Rham (Reads and Wanders) (rhamichu) | 115 comments Now I'm curious. I love the Shades of Magic books, I cant wait to read This Savage Song as well :)

And right now I'm reading:

Hard Times by Charles Dickens

In Summer Days & Summer Nights Twelve Love Stories by Stephanie Perkins I read the next short story: "Sick Pleasure" by Francesca Lia Block, and was not a fan of that one.

Finished The Crown (The Selection, #5) by Kiera Cass and really loved the ending. The rest of the book was so blah, though, with really no action, nor much in the way of world building either.

Started Slayers (Slayers, #1) by C.J. Hill and I'm liking it so far!

message 1076: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Bruno | 771 comments Finished The Rose and The Dagger and LOVED it! Tried picking up And I Darken, read to about chapter 7 before I put it down. I found the two main characters to be annoying and the writing style to not be very good. Moving on to reading Unravel Me by Mafi and then I'm going to read The Winner's Crime.

Heather (hersecretsmile) | 290 comments Over the past couple days I finished And I Darken (The Conquerors Saga #1) by Kiersten White . It started out a bit slow in the beginning but ultimately I loved it. Lada is now one of my favorite (female) characters of all time.

I also finished The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan and unpopular opinion time here, I didn't love it. I feel like I would have adored it when I was younger but I'm a little too old for it now. I am going to continue on with the series though.

message 1079: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 738 comments Aww I love The Lightning Thief! But I did originally read it when I was 12, haha. In my opinion the books get better and more mature as the series progresses, though––so I hope you enjoy the rest of them if you read them!

Heather I had the same reaction to Percy Jackson. I read the first book and was not in love with it either. I know most everyone else here loves that series though. Can't agree on everything or that would be boring :)

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Rhamichu & Catherine, I loved that series!! I agree with you about the second book starting off a little slow Catherine, but it was such an amazing series.

I'm on vacation and barely getting any reading done. BUT, since we're doing lots of driving, we've listened to audios of Sleeping Giants (Themis Files, #1) by Sylvain Neuvel and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline this afternoon. Both were rereads for me and loved them again!

Tomorrow we start Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman which is also a reread. I'm excited to listen to this one on audio. I hear it's a great experience! :)

message 1092: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments I have read the first two books in the FEAR THE DEAD series and am now reading the third Fear the Dead 3 A Zombie Apocalypse Series by Jack Lewis and liking it very much. I am listening to The 5th Wave The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey again, so I can read/listen to the next two books in that series.

Question: Has anyone who has read the Fifth Wave seen the movie? I hesitate to watch it because I don't see how they can get it all in one movie. I do prefer Ben's (Zombie) story more than Cassie's I think.

message 1093: by Penni (new)

Penni I have read and watched the movie. Read first. The movie is obviously different than the book. Too much goes in to fit into a movie. They also changed up a couple small but I felt key items. The soldier being one of them. I am ok with seeing the movie but I didn't feel that it did the book justice as is often the case. I am wondering if they will try and soften some of the tough edges of the books in future movies also.

So I just realized The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) by Brandon Sanderson is going to be a ten-book series! And each book is like a 1,000+ pages, but only the first two are out. Ugh. It is such a GOOD BOOK, but I don't know if I want to wait a couple decades to read the whole series LOL!

Oh, thanks. That is so often in movies made from books, the book is almost always lacking. Also i like to read first so my image of the look of the character, how they talk, act, sound is not affected by the movie. I think i will read all the books before i watch the movie.

The series is one of my favorites but I didn't like the movie that much. It fell short to how good the book is.

Rham (Reads and Wanders) (rhamichu) | 115 comments I finished The Wrath and the Dawn last night and now reading its sequel, The Rose and the Dagger. The first part was indeed a drag but the story is starting to come along. :)
