Right now reading Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier which I am finding a bit harder to get into.

For the #Frightfall Readathon by Seasons of Reading I'm reading Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1) by Lia Habel which I am loving!

Also going to be starting Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens for the #AYearathon Readathon--the theme this month is Mental Health.

My September Wrap Up video is up!
https://youtu.be/vVswc1nFt1w

So far this month, I've finished Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens which was good, but not as good as I was hoping.

Also finished Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1) by Lia Habel which kind of blew me away in how much I loved it. Wasn't expecting to like it that much!

Also finished The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand which was really good, and based somewhat off of the author's own experiences. It made me cry, and one of the better books I've read on teen suicide.

Next I'm reading As Red as Blood (Lumikki Andersson, #1) by Salla Simukka which I'm super excited about!

Tried to read A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis but just couldn't get into it. Anyone read it? For me it was a little too depressing and didn't feel like I had anything to look forward to or anyone to cheer for :(

Started Half a King (Shattered Sea, #1) by Joe Abercrombie , pretty good so far!

Catherine Bruno | 771 comments @David I tried to read that one too, but I had the same feeling within the first couple pages so I DNF'd it.

Good to know you guys! I bought that one on sale to support the author but was very reluctant because it didn't seem like my cup of tea. Now I know it's not.

message 1622: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments I read all of D.J. Molles Remaining series which was so very good! So now I am reading another book by him, WOLVES Wolves by D.J. Molles so far very good. A post apocalypse story that needs no zombies. As it says, man is the most dangerous animal alive.

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I'm reading This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1) by Victoria Schwab have been for a while, not because of the book....everything I read lately I just seem to read very slow. Just something I've been going through for months now! But, at least I'm reading! But this book!! I love it, I really do!! Seems funny to say that when I'm reading it so slowly, but I really love it! In fact, I borrowed it from the library and didn't get to it right away, then when I did I went slowly. Had to return it and digitally you have to get in line again to take it back out and I was enjoying the book so much I didn't want to wait, so I bought it. So you see, I am really loving it!! Has anyone else ever gone through something like this, where you are not really in a slump because you keep reading, but you just read things very slowly compared to what you usually do? I've been like this for so long now :(

Yes, this sometimes happens to me, too, Donna. Part of my issue is I usually fly through books, but the majority of the time, I'm reading fast paced YA, and they tend to be quick reads. Sometimes its hard for me when I switch to adult or a big fantasy book--because although I'm loving it, I don't finish it within a couple of days, and for some reason, it drives me nuts anymore if I'm reading a book longer than 3 or 4 days! Not sure why, but I think its because I have so many books I want to read, and I get anxious to pick up the next one! LOL! I have to remind myself a lot that its not a race! And to just relax and enjoy what I'm reading (which I am, but I'm anxious too!)

I finished As Red as Blood (Lumikki Andersson, #1) by Salla Simukka and it was just an okay read.

Also finished Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson which was very good.

Now I'm rereading Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #1) by Ransom Riggs

Elora Mitchell | 449 comments So I've been working on a monster edit (it "consumed my waking days") and didn't have much time for reading or social media. But it's done now, so I'm back.

I read Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo which was absolutely fantastic!

Born Wicked (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1) by Jessica Spotswood was just alright, but the sequels progressively got better, with the last one being pretty awesome.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys was phenomenal. I've found a new fave author. And the title, once I found out what it meant, chills ran down my spine.

I'm currently reading My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand which is just a really fun light read. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments I am reading/listening to THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS The Girl With All the Gifts Extended Free Preview by M.R. Carey which is just amazing, one of the most unique, interesting books I read in a long time. The narration is good, too, British. It is about a young girl about ten or twelve, living in a cell in a building with other kids her age, kept by adults who have classes for the kids, etc. But sometimes they disappear and don't come back. One teacher is Melanie's favorite and she has a conscience about what is going on. Category could be dystopian, post apocalypse, ya.

The narration for this was better than the story for me but I am totally in the minority. Everyone else seems to love it and I just thought it was ok. As usual my character driven ways lead me not to identify with any of the main characters and when that happens I feel somewhat disconnected to the story. As I said the audio narrator was excellent and the story was unique - I just wish I loved it as much as most everyone else did.

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments I was intrigued by the concept right away. I'm a huge zombie apocalypse fan but this is something else again. I too am into characters and to be in Melanie's head was so touching and to see the teacher's crisis of conscience as she struggles not to feel for these kids, yet can't help herself even at serious danger to herself affected me. I am not even half way yet, they just got out of the enclosure so will get back with my full review when I finish.

I enjoyed the beginning a lot more than the ending. Trying to figure out the school and everyone's roles was intriguing and I was hooked at the start, I hope you end up loving it like most everyone else :)

Finished my reread of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #1) by Ransom Riggs , loved it.

Also finished Crank (Crank, #1) by Ellen Hopkins which I loved. This was my first time reading Ellen Hopkins, and I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future. I love the way she wrote this. The verse was unforgiving and straight to the point, but still beautiful. A sad, scary, and amazing read!

Next I'm reading Ghost in Trouble (Bailey Ruth, #3) by Carolyn Hart and rereading Hollow City (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #2) by Ransom Riggs

I did really, really well for my readathons last week! Doing 2 at the same time was interesting!

For the #AYearathon readathon, I finished 4 books with a total of 1,424 pages!

For the #Frightfall readathon, I finished 5 books with a total of 1,748 pages! My total page count for the week was 3,172! YAY! I had fun with both of these :)
