Yeah it's great! I was kind of unsure of PJO until the last two books but Heroes of Olympus has been fantastic. I think it's because the world has been developed and the action/conflict is pretty much constant.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments I am now FINALLY powering through HP and The Goblet of Fire and loving it!!!!! I'm at page 420!!!! Gonna finally finish this! I went to the Yuleball last night! It was simply magical!

I set Heartless aside too, Catherine! I really have no desire to pick it back up at this time.

message 1961: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 449 comments I've heard that several people have had to set Heartless to the side :(
I had such high hopes after the Lunar Chronicles.

I think the problem is that I can't really connect with the main character, despite having the same name as her.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Karen wrote: "I set Heartless aside too, Catherine! I really have no desire to pick it back up at this time."

I can understand that. To be honest, Heartless almost didn't get the four stars it got from me. For the first couple of chapters I was loving it, and would have been ready to give it five stars, but after that it went downhill a bit, in my opinion, and it was only the whimsical Alice In Wonderland style sillyness that stopped it from getting the lower rating from me, to be honest.

I had the same problem Catherine (except for the name thing). She's just not likable, and I am even having a hard time finding her sympathetic.

I find the dynamic between her and Jest to be fake and a bit cliché to be honest, which I also think is part of the problem. I'll finish it for sure, but just not right now.

I am deeply saddened by this news, Donna. I am so sorry. Though I cannot fathom what you and your family are going through, my thoughts are with you. I write about great tragedies in my books, and even with my fictional characters being affected, they impact me deeply. In real life those feelings are amplified infinitesimally. There's nothing to say that can make this tragedy any easier, but I hope your family can eventually find peace in your own way. All the best, my friend. Hugs from all of us.

I'm now reading The King's Traitor (Kingfountain, #3) by Jeff Wheeler . This is the third book in the Kingfountain series, which is excellent :)Highly recommend for lovers of high fantasy. All three books are quick reads with superb writing.

message 1969: by [deleted user] (new)

finished Lady Renegades (Rebel Belle, #3) by Rachel Hawkins I agree with the majority the last two books in the trilogy were really subpar.
am 100 pages into The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) by Heidi Heilig which am loving

message 1970: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 449 comments After all the positive feedback, I requested The Passage (The Passage, #1) by Justin Cronin from the library!!

Made myself finish This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1) by Victoria Schwab . I really liked it at first. Kate was a tough MC, and I was so excited reading her. Until she totally acted out of character and ended up like most YA characters. *sigh* :(

I binge read Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick last night. It was both good and disturbing at the same time, so I couldn't bring myself to put it down. It was a REALLY good read.

I just finished the audio of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness this afternoon.

Started Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt . Still reading Carve the Mark (Untitled Duology, #1) by Veronica Roth and listening to The Earth Dwellers (The Dwellers #4; Country Saga #4 ) by David Estes .

And I just hit my challenge of 150 books in 2016! Woot woot!! With a few days to spare!

Wow! Well done! For the first time in four years, I won't make my goal :( But I'm okay with it as I read some really long books this year :) I'm still reading a fair bit, so that's the important thing!
