Just finished it and now I'm sitting in shock, over both the ending and the fact that Book 4 doesn't come out till next year :( It was sooo good.

Think I'm gomna start Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1) by Veronica Roth next...

Is the Shades of Magic series good, Catherine? I'm thinking about starting that series soon.

Catherine Bruno | 771 comments @Karen DO IT! The series is great! A Gathering of Shadows had some slow parts, but the series as a whole is fabulous!

@Catherine--you have ACOL?? How exciting!! I'm still waiting on the library.

I hope they hurry because I don't want to accidentally read spoilers!

So glad to hear it's intense already. I have high hopes for this book! :)

Okay, over the weekend I finished February Fever by Jess Lourey which was a cute cozy mystery, very funny. Also finished Attachments by Rainbow Rowell which was just adorable, and Ever the Hunted (Clash of Kingdoms, #1) by Erin Summerill which I really liked.

Right now reading Let It Snow Three Holiday Romances by John Green which is cute so far, and Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone which I don't know what I think yet (pretty early on in the book. Also going to be starting The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen soon.

I finished Passenger (Passenger, #1) by Alexandra Bracken and Alone (The Generations Trilogy, #3) by Scott Sigler (excellent ending to the series!). Still working on Reamde by Neal Stephenson which is a monster of a book, over 1000 pages (38.5 hours on audio).

And I'm just starting The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3) by Rick Riordan which is my final Jan/Feb PIFM book. I won't have it finished by Feb 28th but at least I started it in February, right?! ;)

Also started Wayfarer (Passenger, #2) by Alexandra Bracken which started with a bang!

I'm around 20%. My thoughts so far: I almost stopped reading at 10%, but now I'm glad I didn't. It starts off really slow and feels prescriptive. It didn't really feel like the thriller I expected it to be. But then a REALLY GOOD TWIST comes into the story and now I'm hooked. Assuming the follow through on the twist is cool and interesting, I'll be able to recommend it. I'll let you know when I finish!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 10717 comments Mod
Karen, unfortunately I can't recommend The Chemist after all. I just DNF'd it :( After the awesome twist, when the author should've taken advantage and shot the plot forward (it is supposed to be a thriller!), suddenly everything s l o w s d o w n and it goes from a book that should've been 300 pages to the 500+ page monster it became. I started skimming at around 32% to see if anything would happen soon. 8% later nothing had happened, so I called it quits.

Now I'm reading Bluescreen (Mirador, #1) by Dan Wells . Anyone read it? Pretty mixed reviews, but I love Dan Wells, so....

So glad you let me know! I don't want to waste my time!

Jen, Jenny and I did a buddy read of Bluescreen. I don't know if Jen or Jenny finished it actually. ;) Overall, it was a decent read for me. The tech was really cool for sure! And scary!

I mostly just glazed over from the tech. And also for the scenes where they're playing their video game. I just didn't see that the video gaming was a part of the story itself, so I skimmed those parts.

Gotcha. That's the vibe I got from reading reviews on Bluescreen. I'm 10% in and not really hooked. But it's a quick read so I should get through it. I'm in a bit of a slump after Eye of the World, but I recently reloaded my Kindle so hopefully there's some good books in there!

I started Fatemarked (The Fatemarked Epic, #1) by David Estes ... again! This will be the 3rd reading, it's THAT good!!! Actually I knew there were a few changes between the ARC and the final copy and went to search those changes out before starting Fatemarked Origins Volume I (The Fatemarked Epic, #1.5) by David Estes , and got sucked right in, again, and decided to do a full reread. Seriously LOVE this book!

I've sort of put Wayfarer (Passenger, #2) by Alexandra Bracken on hold for now but will jump back in once I get my Fatemarked fix. Since David is releasing 5 Fatemarked books this month, it may be awhile. ;)

I'm still listening to Reamde by Neal Stephenson which is the longest book I've ever listened to. I think I have 8 or 9 hours left (out of over 38 hours!). Yikes.

message 2291: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments Karen, I finished The Princess Diarist in two days and could have done it in an afternoon. You'll love it I think. Her writing is like poetry. Carrie was a very bright funny woman. Very complex and deep. Which makes her loss even greater.

Bec | 22 comments I'm reading Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb and listening to Suspended by Sarah Noffke. First ever audio book - it's slower than I read (and I have him reading at 1.5 pace - any faster and I can't understand it) but it's great to be able to listen whilst doing things that I couldn't normally do whilst reading (e.g. get dressed, cook dinner)

I'm still working on Bluescreen (Mirador, #1) by Dan Wells . I like the tech but agree with other reviewers that say it's a little crazy how many things you can do just be blinking. And what about a normal blink, do you accidentally do things with that?

In any case, I finally got to the Bluescreen part, which is sort of interesting. I think the hook should've come a little sooner, but now I'm ready for things to get going!

I finally read Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices, #1) by Cassandra Clare and loved it, defnitely a 5 star read!

Also read The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles and I absolutely LOVED this read, 4.5 stars! My only issue was the pacing towards the middle a bit, but it was a pretty minor one. This is the first book in a series, can't wait for more! As it stands right now, its supposed to be a duology.

I just watched an interview of the author, and he is so awesome and funny! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5BeR...

Glad you enjoyed Lady Midnight! I'm nearly finished with Bluescreen. Some nice twists at the end that have sort of made the rest worth the effort to struggle along. But I don't think I'll be continuing with the series, unfortunately.
