Ashley Marie Update after my post 2 days ago:

The Gown A Novel of the Royal Wedding by Jennifer Robson - 4 stars. Calling this a nice bit of historical fluff seems like a disservice to the story, but it's certainly not as heavy as some other HF books I've read.

Midnight Rising John Brown and the Raid That Sparked the Civil War by Tony Horwitz - 3 stars. Dry, and read like a textbook. Interesting enough, but it felt bland.

Tongues of Serpents (Temeraire, #6) by Naomi Novik - 4 stars. Three books left in this series!

I'm setting GRAVE MERCY aside for the time being and picking up Magdalen Rising The Beginning (Maeve Chronicles, #1) by Elizabeth Cunningham instead.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Here's what I read during the past week. There would have been a third book, but I finished it late last night, and haven't had a chance to sort the review.

Hell Divers
by Nicholas Sansbury Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a pretty great read. There were some things left unanswered by the end, which I'm hoping will be answered in later books. Also, I didn't like the way things went for the main character at the very end (can't explain without spoilers, and I never put spoilers in reviews). But other than that I really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the rest of the series.

Ghosts
by Nicholas Sansbury Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This one was even better than the first book, and was an awesome action-packed read. Many of the questions left unanswered in book one were answered in this one, and the way things were left at the end of book one for the main character of the previous book now makes more sense (even if I still wish they hadn't been left that way). I can't wait to see what will happen next.

Catherine Bruno | 771 comments Finished Fangirl, loved it! I just started Nevernight and I have to say that it’s super slow and difficult to read. I’m going to power through and finish it, but it’s not going to get a high rating from me. It’s super disappointing because I had such high hopes for it.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Here's what I read during the past week:

Deliverance
by Nicholas Sansbury Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was an excellent and action-packed read. There are some great characters in this series, and it's great to see their relationships evolving. The bond
between X and his dog, Miles, is one of my favourite parts about this book... I love that his dog means so much to him that he puts the dog's survival
above even his own.

Wolves
by Nicholas Sansbury Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is an excellent continuation of the series, which had me up past my bed time to finish it. It's probably a good thing I didn't have the next
book ready to go, or I might have ended up staying up even later than I already had to start reading it. Like the rest of the series, it's action-packed,
and will hold your attention from start to finish. Plus, the worldbuilding and character development is wonderful.

Hi everyone! I haven't been active on Goodreads at all lately, although I have been keeping track of my reading. That's about it! Also, I have not been reading as much this year as I normally do.

What I read for July:
Taking Tuscany (A.J., #2) by Renee Riva 3.5 stars
I read this while on vacation in Arizona and vising Karen! It was a perfect pool/vacation book. Its actually the 2nd in a series, and I didn't realize that. I think I picked it up at a thrift store. Anyways, its about a 14 year old girl whose family decides to move close to their family in the "old country"--which is Tuscany. Its all about her learning to adapt to a new high school in another country, etc. It was pretty cute, and I'd actually like to read the other books in the series now (there are 3)

The Last of August (Charlotte Holmes, #2) by Brittany Cavallaro 4 stars
This was a reread. I really would love to finish this series this summer, but its been slow going! Anyways, loved this as much the 2nd time. This is a great series if you love Sherlock Holmes and mysteries.

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord 4 stars
I read the first half of this while on vacation as well. Another good summer/pool/vacation read. Its about 2 girls, and one is a country singer who is on her first across-the-country tour. The MC is her best friend. They're both getting over guys, and trying to just have fun--but things don't go as planned of course! It was really cute.

The Cold Dish (Walt Longmire, #1) by Craig Johnson 4 stars
I finally read this book! I've been wanting to for awhile! A great start to the series. Really good mystery, plus amazing writing! He really is great with characters and setting. Very detailed, which I appreciate, but never boring or info dumping.

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones 4 stars
This one was really interesting, and it made me think what I would do if I was in this woman's situation. So its about a young black married couple who have only been married a year when the man is falsely convicted of raping a woman and sent to prison. And then how there marriage falls apart while he's in jail, and what happens when he gets out. Very interesting read. I felt bad for all the characters in this, really.

The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Siblings, #2) by Mackenzi Lee 4 stars
I loved this one as much as its predecessor! So witty and fun, with lots of adventure!

I am currently reading:

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff which is really, really good. So dark, but so imaginative too.

Summer of Supernovas by Darcy Woods needed a light pool read, and this one seems to be working fine! I'm not far in yet, but its cute so far.

I also wanted to show off my new bookshelves! I found these at a local used furniture store. They are solid oak, and definitely handmade, not manufactured. It cost me only $300 for the whole set! I absolutely love them!

Jenny, I never did get to Nevernight. 😕 I read a few pages but it didn’t grab me yet. I may try again next month. This month is full of GIANT books! Dark Age is 752 pages. Still working on my reread of Iron Gold. And my other book I’m working on is about 900 pages - Fall, or Dodge in Hell. Eep!

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I only read one book last week:

Fortune's Fool
by Mercedes Lackey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This wasn't my favourite of this series so far, because I felt the tradition was too easily sent in the direction the characters wanted, taking away some
of the potential conflict and tension. Besides that I really enjoyed it though, and I do think it's a nice addition to the series, hence the good rating.

No worries Karen! I was supposed to finish Nevernight on July 26th for my group (that's when the discussion started) but I'm only halfway through right now! Its not one that I think you can read fast, it really needs to be taken slow and savored. I saw that Catherine was having issues with it. It was somewhat slow in the beginning, but its picked up after 100 pages or so? Now there's a lot going on!

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Here’s what I read this week:

Adrian Mole: The Wilderness Years
by Sue Townsend
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
If you enjoyed the other books in this series, chances are you'll enjoy this one too. It's filled with the same kind of humour as the previous books, and
is a great addition to the series. Even if sometimes I wanted to scream at Adrian to grow up and stop whining. Yes, he can be annoying at times, but he's
an entertaining character, and reading his diaries hasn't failed to make me laugh yet.

This is a gripping - and sometimes amusing - read, with fantastic characters, an exciting plot, and excellent descriptions. Perfect for young dragon fans,
or dragon lovers of pretty much any age.
*NOTE: I was given a free advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced either my opinion of
the book or the contents of this review.

Vanished

This was a fantastic continuation of the series! I love how the plot is progressing, and seeing the bond between dragon and human develop. I've not read
the "How To Train Your Dragon" books, but I've seen and loved the movies. If you loved them as much as me, you'll love this book!
