All About Animals discussion

I had asked here what members would like to see changed. And, some of you have given me some really good suggestions and I'm trying to listen.

I have saved the suggestions and am now working on those changes. I have listed below what some of the changes I have done so far.

If you have more suggestions, please feel free to express them.

Okay, I have copied and saved all of your suggestions so I can refer back to them. I have decided to keep the group open for now to see how the changes go. I've deleted the comments just so I know what I've been doing with the changes.

*Off of all of your suggestions I have changed some things now on the group.

-Some things I have changed are where things go and which thread and folder to add them to. I have added "how to add a new thread", "which folder your comments go into", etc. This is under the Welcome discussion topics.

-I have changed the "Bookshelf" for members to add books.This will give readers a place to add books they like as long as they are about the topics we have in this group.

-I added a discussion thread for members to add their own folder for books they have read to review and discuss.

-I’ve added a thread where authors can give away books and add the # they are willing to give away in exchange for a discussion and review. Members could do this to if they have books to give away. Mostly for a discussion if not an author.

-I added a thread for book recommendations.

- I added a thread of "What Are You Reading Now?"

-I have started to delete old posts that haven't had any comments on for quite awhile. I've also started to delete old giveaways that are no longer available.

I like Skye's suggestion "on doing a certain month to be a dog book, the next month be a cat book, etc. So, Jan would be dog, Feb would be cat, Mar would be a dog sports book, April would be a horse memoir, May would be a bird book, etc."

I may try this suggestion if no author/members volunteer to give away books that month.

If any of you have any more suggestions/changes you'd like to see, please let me know.

Hi Skye, would be happy to brainstorm guidelines with you, although it looks like Barb has introduced guidelines already in the Authors With Books section? Shall we see how this goes and if the thread gets flooded we/Barb can introduce more structure?

Excited to see that it's already drawing readers and authors!

My problem is that I read books dealing with animals, and I realize that they're the sort of books that people in on this group have said they don't like--books with talking animals, or books that are about crusaders against animal abuse which contain descriptions of animal abuse. So I decide not to mention them here even if I think they're very good.

I haven't been a member of the group for that long, but I'm happy to see mentions of books that include talking animals or description of real-world treatment of animals.
