MountainKat | 31602 comments Let's reflect on the best and worst of the previous month's books.....

I know I can get so focused on what is next that I forget about all the wonderful books I read for the previous month's challenges! There were some holidays last month, but also spring break for some. I got lots of reading done amidst the craziness, did you?

Did you find some gems? DNF a few? Find your new book boyfriend or a heroine who personifies TSTL? Come on, we all want to know!

MountainKat | 31602 comments You know, it's funny - I would have said I didn't have any five stars from the previous month, lots of fours though. But when I looked at my ratings I find I gave three books five stars! Those three were:
Drawn Together by Lauren Dane
Servicing the Target by Cherise Sinclair
What You Need by Lorelei James

Both Drawn Together and Servicing the Target had characters from earlier in the series that you wouldn't imagine as heroines and when they were you just loved them. I think that is what pushed them up in the ratings for me. I love when an author can make me love a character I didn't even like before! What You Need was such a departure from the author's usual style, that I wasn't expecting it. So it sort of took me by surprise how much I enjoyed it.

I had lots of four star books too - I did read 24 books in March, but only a couple that didn't quite measure up and that was mostly because they were shorter. All in all, a very good and busy month!

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments I read 30 books in March and had quite a few really good ones.

5 Star Books:

Deep Dark (Tracers, #10) by Laura Griffin Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews Edge of Danger (Deadly Ops #4) by Katie Reus

2 really good RS books with great characters, suspenseful plots that kept me on the edge of my seat and a great romance. Also two paranormal books from a couple of my favorite series. You can't go wrong with Kate & Curran and Mercy & Adam.

4.5 Star Books:

I'm Watching You (Romantic Suspense, #3) by Karen Rose Scoring Position (Philadelphia Patriots, #6) by V.K. Sykes Someone to Watch Over Me (Bow Street Runners, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

A wonderful RS with a really creepy bad guy and a super hot hero. A fun and entertaining sports romance and a historical romance that I really enjoyed.

I also had quite a few 4 star books. (the ones that stood out) are

The Heist (Fox and O'Hare, #1) by Janet Evanovich Darkness by Karen Robards Under Fire (Elite Force, #3) by Catherine Mann

MountainKat | 31602 comments Wow, your 30 makes my 24 seem puny... =P

Looks like some good ones though!

Fran | 12278 comments My favorite read of March was Apples Should Be Red by Penny Watson . I really enjoyed every minute of it!

My second favorite was Shadowland (The Mediator, #1) by Meg Cabot . It was because of the Random List Challenge that I even picked this one up. It was really good and I'm definitely going to continue with the series.

Liza | 115 comments Worst: The Maker of Saints The Maker of Saints by Thulani Davis I am still reading this book. i just can't seem to concentrate on it but I am not a quitter lol.

Best: Cinder Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer This was on my shelf since it was release. I bought it at a Scholastic book sale. I love this spin on the Cinderella story and I MUST find Scarlet.

That one was so sweet!

Sandra | 712 comments The best book series I read in Mar was definitely Gypsy Brothers The Complete Series (Gypsy Brothers, #1-7) by Lili St. Germain . I'm still trying to get my head around it. It's a book I will not forget in a hurry!

No Promises Required (Love Required, #4) by Cari Quinn , Big Rock by Lauren Blakely , Danger Next Door (Red Stone Security, #2) by Katie Reus were all fantastic 5 star reads too!

The biggest surprise was Second Chance Layover by Sandra Bunino . 4 short books, all free on Ibooks. I really enjoyed it.

The worst was FORCED SUBMISSION TABOO Revenge (First Time Alpha Male Billionaire Menage Romance) by Anita Black , The Sapphire Lounge by Nicole Murphy , Bag the Beast (Hardwood Pack .05) by Jane Perky . All Kindle freebies. The only thing they had going for them is the fact I cleared 3 books from my kindle app!

lorii (Loriidae) One 5 star read The Wicked Wallflower by Maya Rodale fabulous regency romp.

My one star read The Mad Mistress by Sorcha MacMurrough regency but way too modern. Set in 1812. One example: When talking marriage the hero suggested if it didn't work out they could get a divorce.

Connie N. | 1317 comments I had two 5-star reads in March:

The Heist (Fox and O'Hare, #1) by Janet Evanovich - Actually 4.5 stars rounded up because the audiobook was fun.

Twisted (Tangled, #2) by Emma Chase - A continuation of this hilarious series.

My least favorite was:

Unexpected Rush (Play by Play, #11) by Jaci Burton - It's in the Play-by-Play series that I've been loving, so it was very disappointing to find this one only a 3-star read.

Anita Reads | 170 comments Here are all of my 5 star reads of March. It was a good reading month in that regard:

Before Jamaica Lane (On Dublin Street, #3) by Samantha Young Proven Guilty (The Dresden Files, #8) by Jim Butcher Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #3) by Chloe Neill By a Thread (Elemental Assassin, #6) by Jennifer Estep Wonder by R.J. Palacio Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Chained by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire, #2) by Larissa Ione

I really loved all these books, and as most of them are series, I'm really looking forward to continuing them all :)

Most disappointing books:
The Rosie Effect (Don Tillman, #2) by Graeme Simsion The Murder Pit (A Moose River Mystery Book 1) by Jeff Shelby Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth

The Murder Pit was sort of flat to me.
I've also never been the biggest fan of the Rosie Project (I know I'm in the minority there), but thought I'd check book 2 out since it's not like I hated Rosie Project at all, it was just only a 3 star read for me. Book 2 was unnecessary though in the series. Everything I didn't like in the first book was sort of multiplied in the second one.
As for Insurgent, my main complaint is the main character. I just feel like slapping her around the head all the time. I'm not looking forward to Allegiant, because I've heard a lot of bad things about it, but I will finish the trilogy!

D.G. | 4477 comments Can't say it was the best month ever but I had a couple of good books:
Gone Tomorrow (Jack Reacher, #13) by Lee Child Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop .

The rest were average ones, including Marked in Flesh (The Others, #4) by Anne Bishop , which I found just OK. At least I advanced 3 series: Jack Reacher, Spymasters & The Others.

Oh I had lots of DNFs too (around 4.) But I'm being philosophical about those. At least they're out of my TBR!

Hahaha - I often feel like that is SUCH an achievement! It's almost worth a 1 or 2 star read ;)

message 15: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I really enjoyed Speechless (Speechless #1) by Kim Fielding , so much that I went back and reread The Gig (Speechless #2) by Kim Fielding and have put Good Bones (Bones #1) by Kim Fielding on my 'to reread' list :D

I also loved Infected Paris (Infected, #0.5) by Andrea Speed . I love that world that Andrea Speed has created.

My other 5 star read was Illumination by Rowan Speedwell . I am yet to read a Rowan Speedwell book that I haven't loved.

The biggest disappointment for me was Against the Grain (THIRDS, #5) by Charlie Cochet - I rated it 3.5 stars, but the whole series is just dropping off for me :(
