Rose Romano I downloaded a free Acrobat Reader DC and made two PDF files of my book, one for cover and the other for interior. How do I upload them?

When I tried to do it, I got the window, or whatever it's called, with the thing that says "sfoglia," which is Italian and it means the thing that allows you to look through your files. But I don't get files when I click on it. I just get program names and I can't get to the files at all.

I tried typing in the name of the file but it won't let me.

I've been to OO's site, DoPDF's site, CreateSpace, other sites that, according to what it said when I searched for "upload PDF," seemed to be about how to upload a PDF, but weren't.

Is it because I have a reader and not a "writer"? Does anyone know where I can download a PDF program that will allow me to upload a PDF? Best would be for free, next cheap, then I'll get really desperate and pay anything.

Martin Wilsey | 447 comments While in the Interior Creator section, select the BROWSE button and select the file.

Please note: It is not required that it be a .PDF. You can also use MS Word .DOC or DOCX files and it might work better depending on the formatting of of your book.

Rose Romano Thank you, but you didn't answer my question. As I said in my original message, I already did what you suggested to do.

But I'm thanking you because, going back to createspace to check what I'm doing again, I was inspired to look to the left.

Now I know--to upload my pdf files to createspace, it's browse, click on documents (box to the left) and click on the file I want to upload.

I just tried that, although I didn't send yet.

I thought maybe some other people might appreciate the information.

Also, while the interior can be DOC, the cover has to be PDF. In my case, they both "have to" be PDF for some slightly complicated reasons.

But I do thank you.

Martin Wilsey | 447 comments You an upload and review the formatting as many times as you like. It will not publish it until it makes you confirm several times.

Also keep in mind that the size of the cover changes with the number of pages.

If you use Createspace's cover creator, you can upload JPEG images for your front and back covers and the cover creator will take care of the rest.

Rosabeatrice,

You're looking for PDFCreator. This program will allow you to create a PDF from a number of programs and acts like a printer. Just select this program when you go to print, choose a folder, name your PDF file and click print.

You can download a free copy at http://pdfcreator.en.softonic.com/

Hope this helps.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments I wished I'd remember which website I used back in 2013 to convert my word doc to PDF since 2003 word didn't do it and I didn't have 2010 yet. I don't know why I chose to use an old computer with a so-so virus checker instead of my regular computer with Norton. Thanks to a careless mistake, the computer ended up with a virus. So please, make sure you have a very good anti virus when using websites to convert.

CreateSpace has a robust Community Forum. Become a member. There are many who are very, very experienced in using CS and can answer just about any question you throw at them or help you solve a problem. Any answers by 5 star contributors are worth reading. The search function on this forum is outstanding that points to threads that give pros and cons on all things CS and self-publishing.

M. Ray Holloway Jr. (mrayhollowayjr) | 180 comments There are several good pdf conversion programs. I use one that sits in my printer folder and is selected as the output when I print something. Instead of printing a hard copy for me, it makes a pdf file.

Gerry (gerrydowndoggmailcom) | 62 comments Happy that you have solved the problem. I use Createspace all the time and yes, they do require PDF files. However, when you have a problem of any kind, they are very kind and helpful just by contacting them. You can even get an immediate call back and talk to someone personally.

Createspace also accepts Word files. That is what I sent for my last two books, and they worked just fine.

I am glad you mentioned that. I have a MAC and didn't know..

Rose Romano You're right, Gerry. They are really nice at CreateSpace. In fact, I'm beginning to think that this book will someday be a reality. I've used computers for years, but all this uploading and stuff is new to me. It takes a while, I guess, especially for people like me who get confused easily!

CreateSpace has as robust Community Forum. I highly recommend joining it. There are technical gurus on the site who can answer almost any question about the process. Just post the question and be specific about the problem. There is also a wealth of information on all aspects of using the CS platform by using the Community Search function with keywords. Almostt any question posed has been answer at one time or another and by researching the threads your learning curve increases rapidly. Look for answers by any of the five star participants. As with any online forum, there are all kinds of online personalities. However, the five star members are extremely knowledge, patient and helpful.

I've used CS for both of my books and continue to login to the forum to keep abreast of what's happening and for the pure educational benefit.

Hi, Tony! I just downloaded PDF Architect 4 from the site you suggested. I created a PDF. I tried to click on User Manual because I have no idea how to upload the PDF to CreateSpace. But when I clicked on User Manual, nothing happened. I asked a question on their site (it said something about FaceBook, which I'm not interested in).

I also downloaded PDF Creator from that site but when I click on the icon, I keep getting set-up stuff. I've set it up a dozen times. I don't know what the heck to do with that thing.

I sent a message to CreateSpace help and they sent me a very detailed response which means absolutely nothing to me.

So I repeat my initial question: How can I upload a PDF to CreateSpace?

Thank you.

Hi, Rosabeatrice, I will go online to Createspace and get you specific directions for how to upload your PDF. It's pretty simple, but I just want to give you clear, step by step instructions to make it easy for you. I'm dealing with another issue this morning, but I will get back to you this afternoon. Okay? Hang in there!

R. Billing (r_billing) | 228 comments I've put two books on CreateSpace, and I did both with LibreOffice, which is free and works on most platforms. Basically I loaded up the template, pasted in the content, tweaked formatting as required and hit the PDF button in the toolbar.

It was painless, very fast and free.

I'm trying to understand what you're having problems with. It seems that at first, you were asking how to create a PDF. Everyone was giving you suggestions about PDF creators, but now your question seems to be how to upload a PDF into Createspace.

The process for listing a book with Createspace is step by step. You start by creating a name and choosing the format that you want to use (size of book, paper color and choice,) When you get to the cover, you can create a cover through their cover creation program or upload a cover that you have already created elsewhere (or had created for you by an artist.) Then you should come to a section called Interior.

Interior is your text for the book and should include your title page, your copyright page, forward, and dedication if you have those as well as the text of your manuscript. I have done all this in Word and everything has worked very well for me, but always be sure to review your file before printing.

When you get to the section called Interior, there is a place when you can upload the file you want to use, whether it is a Word .doc, .docx, .rtf, or print-ready PDF. You can browse for the file on your computer and click the upload button to pull it in to the program.

That is how you upload the file into Createspace. Is that what you needed to know?

PDF Creator is a printer interphase application. To create a PDF file using PDF Creator you simply have to print the file, BUT instead of print to your regular printer, select "PDF Creator" from the list of available printers. After selecting the printer, click on "print" which will you to a window (or a series of windows) where you will select a name and a folder for your file.

Tip -- Make sure your paper size is the same as your finished book before you create your PDF.

Hope this helps.

That was what I was talking about earlier. It is listed with your printers, but creates a PDF instead of printing the document.

Rose Romano Thank you, everybody! I think I've got it. I uploaded both the cover and the interior to CreateSpace this morning. Now I have to wait to see what they say.

And I have a feeling I'm going to have some more questions.

Thanks again!
