Bridgett Murphy | 3 comments I've just joined the group, although the threads aren't that busy. SciFi is one of my go to genres so I thought this could be interesting.

Arriah Kiprujistho (arriahkiprujistho) | 2 comments My Name is Arriah - a self published author. Though I had created the account on Goodreads long back (in 2014 maybe) but I started playing active role in group discussions and communities here very recently. I am really looking forward to connect with great readers to have a great discussion about the extraordinary world of books we live in.

I have written two books "Wishing for a Parallel World - - a supernatural romance and Those Were Not Love Letters But Still I Fell in Love - a contemporary romance but due to paying job, I stopped writing and couldn't focus on my passion for writing further. But now I keep getting wake up calls and I truly want to focus on my passion and I need help of book lovers like you to support me.

If you would like to read and review my book, please let me know. I would really and highly appreciate it.

Kind Regards
Arriah

Beige Hi all! I've been looking for a place to chat about SciFi books written by women. This group seems to be a good place for aspiring writers, which it great, but it doesn't seem very active for fans of the genre.

Since my search was fruitless, I've started another group called Women of the Future. If anyone is interested in just chatting about women in SciFi books, movie, TV etc. please pop by. We may start monthly reads if there is enough interest.

Please note, it's not a place for authors to promote their works.

Brett Fitzpatrick (brett_fitzpatrick) | 2 comments I'm an old white man but I think it is so important to avoid the embarrassing way women have been - and unfortunately sometimes continue to be - represented in sci fi. I'm here for this, I'm on board, and I'm interested to listen and evolve.

message 167: by Karen (new)

Karen (2bsirius) | 1 comments Hi...I'm new, too. I've read lots of Atwood, Le Guin, Tiptree, Lessing, and Octavia Butler. I have now begun my quest to find their successors. This seemed like a good place to begin.

message 168: by Anna (last edited Jun 01, 2019 09:23AM) (new)

Anna Mocikat | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name’s Anna, I’m new to this group and very excited to be here.
I’m an author of Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Dystopia novels but first and foremost, I’m an avid reader and big Sci-Fi fan since childhood.
I have published a book series in Germany and am now about to bring out my debut in English in the US.
My favorite authors (and influences) are Isaac Asimov, Stanislaw Lem, and Phillip K. Dick, but I also enjoy reading modern authors such as Daniel H. Wilson, Richard Morgan, and James S.A. Corey. Besides reading, I love Sci-Fi in movies and television, and I’m a passionate gamer. I’m looking forward to exchanging thoughts and opinions with other Sci-Fi fans in this group.

Gleneley | 6 comments Hi, I'm Gleneley, the author of UNJU - The Jump. I'm new to the group and a newly self published author.

message 171: by Sian (new)

Sian Nicholas | 1 comments I'm a lover of Sci-Fi and have just published my novel 'Bitter Memory', it's a female-led sci-fi story focussing on issues of humanity, identity and the environment. I find Sci-Fi is a great genre to tackle interesting themes and ideas. I guess I particularly like the writing of Philip. K. Dick and his ideas on identity and what it is to be human.

message 172: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (officerripley) | 32 comments Welcome, Gleneley and Sian!

message 173: by Marga (new)

Marga | 3 comments Hello there!!
I've read science-fiction since I was a kid. I enjoy Ursula K Leguin, Sheri Tepper, Octavia Butler, Margaret Atwood, etc and I would like to know more great writers. Looking for animal-friendly science-fiction
Is anybody in Barcelona? We might start a book club ..
Take care and keep on reading.
Marga

message 174: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (officerripley) | 32 comments Welcome, Marga! I just finished A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World; it was animal friendly. Also an older novel (1990), A Gift Upon the Shore, might be hard to find but worth the read.

message 176: by Rhea (new)

Rhea May | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Rhea, and thankful to be here. I prefer Star Trek over Star Wars and Stargate SG-1 over Battlestar Galactica. I'm a firm believer Firefly should get a hundred or so more seasons.
As for the written sci-fi, there are far too many books to mention. My love for the genre started with Dune, then Ender's Game. And is never-ending.
If I were stranded on a deserted island, my Kindle would definitely be part of my 'survival' kit :)

message 177: by Clare (new)

Clare O'Beara | 71 comments A solar powered Kindle of course! Welcome.

I see a comment above that the group isn't very active; I was more active but I'm taking a journalism degree so had to drop quite a lot during term while I got documentaries made. I'll try to drop by more often.
Currently I'm reading the Hugo voting packet as I am helping to organise Worldcon in Dublin. I'm delighted that many of the works are written by women.

I feel the same way! Nice to meet you Rhea!!

Rhea May | 2 comments Clare wrote: "A solar powered Kindle of course! Welcome. "
In my imagination, it's not even a Kindle, but a far more advanced version of an E-reader. With holo features (to enhance the reading experience, of course), and no more tapping to turn the page, it gets quite tedious (optical tracking or something).
And thanks, I'm happy to be here.

Catherine wrote: "I feel the same way! Nice to meet you Rhea!!"
Yay! I'll toast to like-minded people. Virtual cheers! So nice to meet you too

Jill Caplin | 2 comments Hi I'm Jill. I am new to this group. I just self-published my first novel "Life Unnormal." It is a science fiction/dystopian novel with a female heroine who deals with the challenges of living underground.
I am an avid reader, enjoying authors like Orson Scott Card, Atwood, Asimov and Heinlein.
I am happy to finally be here.

message 183: by Carly (new)

Carly Coleman | 1 comments Hi there! I'm Carly, an independent author that's new to the game. I just published my first steampunk novel A Regrettable Likeness that harkens back to sci-fi classics, particularly The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I'm looking for some new sci-fi to read. Most of the authors that I have read in this genre are male, so if anyone has any female written books that they would recommend, please let me know!

message 187: by Amy (new)

Amy Tychell (amytychell) | 3 comments Hi, I am Amy Tychell and I am new too! I am releasing my first humorous Space Fantasy book "Say Hi 4 me (when Gravity waves)" this week. I am a book maniac, a Sociologist and I work in the science realm. I herd cats, forage mushrooms, climb mountains, swing from trees and battle high seas. I have to use a pen name because someone already uses my real name. So I feel like I am just being born as a whole person on a world stage. Very odd. Almost surreal. Like I have amnesia and lack all connection to a personal history and reality. Hmm, that might be true.

message 188: by Beige (new)

Beige Dear members of this group,

Since this group hasn't been active for a while, over a year ago I started another group for women in SciFi & Speculative fiction. We have over 200 members now and regular monthly reads. Our bookshelf has 700+ women authored books, and none of them are YA.

Come and check out our group Women of the Future . It's a private group to ensure we don't get spam and trolls, but we accept 99% of those who request to join. You don't need to join to view our bookshelf because we believe in #readingmorewomen

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

All the best 😁

Khira

Hi, my name is Khira. I am new to the group (and to Goodreads). I've been an avid science fiction reader all my life and the topic of women's voice in sci-fi is very important to me. (Some thoughts on this in a blog here.) My inspirations are Ursula K Le Guin and Nicola Griffith. I also want to read more by Octavia E. Butler. Other recommendations are most welcome.

message 190: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Kuzmier Hi everyone, I'm Jessica and a big fan of science fiction. I love anything Star Trek, think The Expanse is awesome and enjoy any type of post-apocalyptic fiction and spec fic in any type of media, whether book, TV or film.

Recently I had the privilege of completing and self-publishing a full-length novel about the origins of a pandemic called 'Protocell 3: Dormancy'. It wasn't about COVID-19 but it certainly was food for the novel.

Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself! Jessica

Erika's booked (erikasbooked) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Erika. I'm not new to Goodreads, but I am new to this group. I just wanted to say hello to my fellow science fiction/horror readers/writers.

While I do write, I also professionally edit, proofread, and beta read. I'm not sure the rules on posting advertisements for services in this group, so I'll refrain, but please feel to reach out to me if you're interested in more information about what I offer on the editing front.

Now back to my WIP!
