What's a TBR Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?

Like the name implies, those who participate in this monthly challenge will have a book selected for them by a partner. Partners will be randomly paired up. You will choose a book for your partner from their to read list (TBR), and they will choose one for you from your TBR list.

Once you have picked the book, come back to this thread and post what book you have chose for your partner. Also send a message to the person with the name of the book you have selected for them. Then when you're done with your book, come back to this thread and post your opinion so we know you have completed the challenge.

For this challenge, you need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable) or make the person you're paired with your friend. I strongly advise keeping your bookshelves updated, otherwise you might end up with a recommendation for something that you've already read.

Sign up period will remain open until April 28 and you'll have until May 1 when someone decides not to participate.

That would be awesome, I will need to find my copy of The short life of Sparow. I keep getting sidetracked as well, altough I could be dragging it out because I don't want The Hollows to end. :(

Cortney Tammy I really struggled with the Hallows! I mean I loved jinx and his relationship with Rachel (it was Rachel right?). They made me laugh. Quite a few people pushed me to keep going and eventually I may, but that first book just didn't do it for me!

Any words of advice for this one?

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 82 comments Hey Denee,

I hope you are having a great Sunday afternoon! For your May PIFM, I have selected:

"The Devil Inside" by Jenna Black
"The Woman in Black" by Susan Hill
&/or "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons

Enjoy! :-)

Hmmm, I'm not sure I loved it from the beginning, have you tried skipping the rest of the first book and starting the second?
Yes it is Rachel, I love all the characters in the series, well most of them any way.

message 23: by Cortney (new)

Cortney Tammy,

I did finish the first book. Now that I have been chatting with you about it I feel as thought the sour taste it left in my mouth has diminished. I may consider continuing this series!

I do miss Jinx! I love him and his family!

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments Courtney,
How far in the series did you get before you stopped? Jenks only gets better the farther in you get.

message 25: by Cortney (new)

Cortney I stopped with the first one. I didn't want to get sucked into a mediocre series and after that first book I thought that was how it would be.

I forced myself through the Sookie Stackhouse books. They were good and I liked them but I was relieved when I reached the end and I didn't want that again.

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments I could not get into the Sookie Stackhouse books. I am about 8 books into The Hollows I only put it off because I do not want the series to end. I only have 4 left I think.

Denee' (denee3102) | 38 comments Hello Sarah! I hope you're having a good start to your week. Here are the books I picked for you:

Red Rising
The Immortal Rules
and/or Midnight Thief

Happy reading!

message 28: by Cortney (new)

Cortney @ Tammy, I forced myself through Sookie Stackhouse. I felt like I had come so far that I could not stop. And I also thought that it actually had to get better for all the ranting and Raven people were doing about another time. I was wrong.

I have been drawn in by the hype before, sometimes it is great others not so much. It's why I started The Host... I never finished it.

message 30: by Cortney (new)

Cortney Tammy, the host wasn't horrible... Ok so here was my thinking with that. I struggled and pushed through that one. It was long and drawn out and I rolled my eyes a few times! Once I finished it and was able to look back and think about the story as a hole for a day or two. (Ya know, forget all the crap and drawn out explanation.). It was actually really good, very slow but good! I liked the concept and how Meyers went about it. It just took a bit of coercing.

Also, at the time I would never start a book and not finish it. I mean it took me 5 months to read a 600 page book once Bc I forced myself to get through it! I am no longer that person! There are too many good books in this world to waste time on ones that are less than mediocre! (Yet another reason I pushed through the Sookie books. I felt a HUGE relief when I got to the end and then a huge state of depression overcame me when Harris signed on for three more books. (I never read them and I won't now!)

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments @ Cortney, I use to feel the same way, I would force myself to read through, even when I did not like it because I wanted to show my son that you need to read books you don't like. Then I came to the same realization I don't want to read something Im not into because there are way too many great books that I need to read. I don't have many DNF books, I also would never give a book I did not finish a bad review, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I will pick a book back up that I put aside, sometimes you are not in the right mind set for certain books.

I read the Twilight series and loved them, I've reread them so many times. They got me back into reading, But I could not get into the Host, could be because of the Alien theme.

Everyone in this field probably wants to strangle us! lol.
I had some advice from a woman on goodreads about DNF books. That is when I realized that she was right. She received the advice from her librarian! I still struggle to not finish a book, but if it is really pushing my buttons or takes me more that a week to read 350 pages (which never happens unless I'm sick or on vacation) then I should probably put it down and try again later. I have one like that now, I have been slowly reading it since the 26th and it isn't that it is not interesting, it just doesn't grab my attention and suck me in. I don't ever think about it when I am not reading other than "I need to finish this and post my review by the 19th."

Now in regards to Twilight, I can not tell you, ok I'm going to tell you! I finished the first book, couldn't wait to start the second book, but it was Wednesday and at the time we were having family dinner at my mom's house every Wednesday with my brother and his wife. So I sat on the back deck and started reading. We were all sitting outside, now my sister-in-law used to enjoy reading as well so she stood up for me!

For anyone that hasn't read this series and still wants to:
(view spoiler)

So my boyfriend at the time and my brother look at me like I am crazy. My boyfriend said, "it is just a book, it isn't real." (as if I was watching some horror movie that I thought was really going to happen.)

I looked at my sister-in-law and she said, "CLEARLY you have never been emotionally wrapped up in a book! Books are like an alternate reality and they can really draw you into them sometimes!"

They guys just shook there heads and dropped the subject. It was awful!

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments It hubby does not get it either, although he indulges my habit.

I finished The Short Life Of Sparrows, if was a fantastic, awesome read. Thank you for the pick.
I think I am going to start Pale Demon.

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments @Cortney,
I finished Pale Demon as well, thank you for the fantastic picks.

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments How do you like the Shirt Life of Sparrows?

message 37: by Cortney (new)

Cortney I liked the beginning of it, it is mysterious, but not dull. I forgot about a buddy read for May, so this is on hold until I finish that. (which should be this weekend)
