Michael (michaelkjr) | 4 comments Greetings all,

Just finished Stone of Tears (Book Two, The Sword of Truth). Spent the last two hours reading the ending. I just couldn't stop. Of course, even though I expected the same ending, I still cried. Now I can't wait to start book three!

Brad (bradparker) | 11 comments :) I remember staying up all night reading these books (back in the good days of not having to have a summer job!). What was your favorite part of the book? Have you start the third yet?

message 3: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaelkjr) | 4 comments No I haven't started the third book of Sword of Truth; my library doesn't have it nor do the surrounding sharing libraries. I started a new series and will return to this one when I can get ahold of the third book.

The whole book, from page one to the last, I call my favorite. The whole series thus far is just amazing. No matter where and what is going on I find myself ravagely reading until there is a slight lull to take a break.

But to be honest, I have to say that the most memorable part was when the Confessor, Kahlan convinced Richard to see the Sisters of the Light. I was in tears when Richard left the Mud People to later understand the true meaning of love for each other. I was literally in tears!

Brad (bradparker) | 11 comments AH HA! That was a great piece of writing! I'm guess the third book will probably keep you enthralled just as easily! The hardest books in the series for me to get through were Pillars of Creation and Naked Empire. I loved both, but in a different way. The rest of the series was just amazing. I can't wait to see what else Terry Goodkind writes.

What series did you recently start? Is it a fantasy series, or something from another genre?

message 5: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaelkjr) | 4 comments I started The Wheel of Time series. The Eye of the World is the first book of the series and I'm loving every part of it. Robert Jordan is a great fantasy writer who incorporates facts with fiction putting a great spin on details. Another series I can't put down!

Brad (bradparker) | 11 comments Ah! I read The Eye of the World. I never got around to reading the next ones, but just today I added them to my to-read list! If you are liking those books, please also check out George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones.

Michael (michaelkjr) | 4 comments Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add to my list.

Lauri Soffen | 2 comments I have read this whole series and Terry's other books and loved them all. Can anyone recommend similiar series or authors? Appreciate it.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 67 comments Lauri wrote: "I have read this whole series and Terry's other books and loved them all. Can anyone recommend similiar series or authors? Appreciate it."

Just off the top of my head:
Robert Jordans 'Wheel of Time' series
Tad Williams 'Memory, Sorrow and Thorn' series and 'Shadowmarch' series.

Anthony Wendt | 15 comments Michael wrote: "I started The Wheel of Time series. The Eye of the World is the first book of the series and I'm loving every part of it. Robert Jordan is a great fantasy writer who incorporates facts with ficti..."

I wouldn't recommend mixing both The Wheel of Time Series and the Sword of Truth series. Both are excellent books and Brandon Sanderson is doing a superb job at finishing the book! I can hardly tell that its not Robert Jordan...

@Lauri,

George RR Martin "Song of Ice and Fire" series
David Eddings "Belgariad" and the "Malloreon" series

Tabatha (lylathewicked) | 20 comments I disagree with AndrewP. Wheel of Time is meh. If you're going to read it, just read book 1. It gets boring by book 4. IMO.

message 18: by Marina (new)

Marina Fontaine (marina_fontaine) | 98 comments I recommend Brent Weeks' Night Angels trilogy. Memorable characters, kick a$$ action and a significant moral component, which to me makes it comparable to SoT.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 67 comments Tabatha wrote: "I disagree with AndrewP. Wheel of Time is meh. If you're going to read it, just read book 1. It gets boring by book 4. IMO."

Yeah, I should have mentioned that, Wheel of Time gets a bit bogged down after the first couple of books and it's an unfinished series. Song of Fire and Ice is similar in that it's unfinished and I have heard that the last two books really drag.

I would second the recommendation by Anthony on the 2 David Eddings series.

Another to add:
Joe Abercrombie - The First Law Trilogy

message 20: by Lauri (new)

Lauri Soffen | 2 comments I read Song of Ice and Fire already and really enjoyed that series as well. Hope we don't have to wait years for the next one.

I also wanted to add that I had read the Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind and it struck me that the love story of Kahlan and Richards is another strong reason I enjoyed Sword of Truth.

So if anyone knows Fantasy books/series with that as the main focus, let me know.

I agree with you on the waiting for the next George RR Martin book considering the 5 year wait for Dance of Dragons... For another book recommendation with background love story...
Sara Douglass - The Wayfarer's Redemption Series
Elizabeth Haydon - The Symphony of Ages

message 22: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1 comments Ever since I started reading the Wheel of Time series I've learned how difficult it is to wait 3-4 years for the next book in a complex series. Mainly because I don't have the time to reread the old books. I've been holding onto A Song of Fire and Ice books that I own and haven't committed to reading them since there is a good chance George RR Martin won't finish the series for 10+ years. I wish I had more patience.

For those that love High Fantasy series, I'd recommend Steven Erickson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series. It is simply amazing.

message 23: by John (new)

John (jghurey) | 14 comments I just started Naked Empire not to mention just got turned on to goodreads. Ever since I read Wizard's First Rule I'm back in a Sword of Truth novel every other or third book I read. This is the first group I thought to join. Hope I can contribute.

message 24: by Marina (new)

Marina Fontaine (marina_fontaine) | 98 comments I'm curious to see what you think of Naked Empire. It's my second favorite in the series.

What is your first? If I had to rank them so far I'd put Stone of Tears at number one and Soul of the Fire at number two.

message 26: by Marina (new)

Marina Fontaine (marina_fontaine) | 98 comments Faith of the Fallen is my favorite. BUT Naked Empire has my favorite Wizard Rule.

message 27: by John (new)

John (jghurey) | 14 comments Cool, thanks for not spoiling the Rule. I purposely don't know what they are because I like discovering them in the text.

Interesting. I wonder if I'll change my mind once I finish the series.
