Les Misérables discussion

I think it took me about 1 to 2 months. It wasn't that bad. It started sort of slow but then it picked up as it got more interesting. It was a good one.

It was about a year and a half from when I started it until I finished it. Obviously I read other books during this time. I would read it in bursts of about a week or so, and then put it aside for a month or three. It worked fine that way.

I started it, read the first volume REALLY slowly, then put it down because of the stress of school and quarantine. Then, I committed to it fully and finished it in ten days over spring break. I think I was reading for about 3 hours a day, not sure though. It's definitely an effort but it's 100% worth it. The fact that I, procrastination and all, was even willing to read for 3 hours a day should show you how fantastic it is.
Also, read the unabridged version. Some things weren't meant to be shortened.

Took me 2 months to read and it was worth every day. Victor Hugo is brilliant and the book is fantastic

Fue hace muchos años. Sinceramente no lo recuerdo, y ni siquiera me parece importante. Mi ritmo de lectura es rápido (suelo terminar un libro de 350 páginas en un par de días ) y , si me gusta lo que leo, empleo más horas de las que debiera para poder acabarlo.
Lo que si me parece importante es el poso que te deja la historia y esta es una HISTORIA con mayúsculas. Jean Valjean y su difícil viaje hacia la redención, su acérrimo enemigo Javert, con sus contradicciones a cuestas; Fantine, Cosette... personajes fascinantes a los que la vida maltrata sin piedad.
Las descripciones nos sumergen en la Francia de la primera mitad del siglo XIX, con sus vaivenes políticos y creo que no se pueden apreciar los matices de una novela si no sabemos situarla en su contexto histórico. Aquí Víctor Hugo nos da una visión perfecta de la época, con sus luces y sus sombras.

it took me like 6 months lol but sometimes I wouldn't read for weeks. when I finally decided to finish it I was a third of the book in and it took me like 3 weeks.

I read it in French; the Livres de poche series had it in two "tomes", about 1,000 pages each. Tome 1 took a couple of months, while Tome II, read in shut-in midwinter here in Canada, was about a month. Read all the "encyclopedic" sections about Waterloo, sewers etc. Great characters and stories (although Valjean becomes a bit Superman-ish in parts, with his athletic and social feats). The best. BTW, anybody know the total word count? And, in comparison to other 19th-century Big Books, ie War and Peace, Karamazov etc.?

It took two weeks for me . It was a long novel but It was one of the bests between classics.

4 days I read fast and had a decent amount of time on my hands. Also compared to another long book Don Quixote I never felt bored or as the store was repetitive in plots.
