Ryan Aldred | 11 comments Hello, my name's Ryan Aldred - I enjoy a broad range of mysteries and thrillers, but am particularly fond of Donna Andrews, Kathy Reichs, Ian Fleming, Anthony Horowitz, John le Carre, and Agatha Christie. My all-time favourite remains Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None", and I have a very large soft spot for Terry Pratchett's Commander Vimes books.

I serve part-time as a Sergeant in the Canadian Army Reserve, and head up a small Canadian charity that supports education in Kandahar and other at-risk regions. I'm an author myself, with a humorous mystery series set in Costa Rica.

I live in a small corner of Ontario known as Prince Edward County, a neverland of sorts that is home to beaches, wineries, and more than its share of dreamers (myself included). I've been fortunate to have the help of some local author mentors, particularly Vicki Delany.

Thanks for reading, and look forward to hearing your thoughts on specific books, and mystery, crime and thriller fiction in general.

Lynn (officerripley) Welcome, Ryan! I really enjoy the books of 1 of your countrymen, Inger Ash Wolfe (AKA Michael Redhill), the Hazel Micallef mysteries; the 1st one, The Calling, was made into a pretty good movie starring Susan Sarandon.

Jan C (woeisme) | 39173 comments Welcome Ryan. My mother was Canadian (dual citizenship with the US). I recall being startled by Howard Engel's The Man Who Forgot How to Read: A Memoir when he was talking about St. Catherine's. I had an aunt who lived there. I haven't read his mysteries yet.

That's a good list of writers.

Ryan Aldred | 11 comments Thanks, Anne - hope you enjoy Cheesefest. Not sure which wineries will be around, but I really like Stanners, Hinterland, Lighthall and Rosehall Run, to name just a few. Have a good trip!

Beth | 408 comments Welcome, Ryan! I'm a fan of Donna Andrews, too,--in person as well as her writing. And, I noticed that your book in coming out from Five Star Publishing. My first two mysteries were published in hardcover by them before I converted to trade pb/ebook publisher Midnight Ink. I have fond memories of acquisition editor Tiffany at Five Star. I put your upcoming book on my to-read list because I know Tiffany has good taste. ;-) I'll be sending you a friend request.

I enjoy wine from all of the wineries but there is one run by a Finnish guy called Long---- something. Tried a couple of his wines at the Toronto Food & Wine fest at the Billy's Bottles lecture, they were just outstanding.

Ryan Aldred | 11 comments That sounds like Long Dog, Anne - http://www.longdog.ca/ - great wines! Their pinots in particular are excellent, and they're reasonably priced compared to some of the other wineries in the area. If you're able to visit at the winery during the off season, you can occasionally snag the chance to take part in a barrel tasting.

Thanks so much for the link Ryan. Would love to go there for a barrel tasting! Will have to keep checking the site or email him for info. Many thanks again & maybe see you on June 4th for the cheese fest :-)

Noorilhuda | 26 comments Hi Ryan, you're from the place Anne of Green Gables was shot in... and a Bryan Adams video (summer of 69) if I'm not mistaken!
