Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments So I have two different recommendation requests:

1. My favorite books in recent years have been the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor, The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. So if anyone has read anything you have liked and think is similar to one of those, please let me know!

2. I'm in need of a new adult urban fantasy series, like Mercy Thompson, Kate Daniels, Dresden Files, or the Others. Thanks!

Major bonus points if your recommendation has a good audiobook version!

Karsyn (imzadi) The Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka is very much like Dresden. Verus is a mage living in London who owns a shop and has all kinds of things going on. Great books, 7 in in the series now. Since you are an audiobook fan, the books are read by one of my favorite narrators ~ Gildart Jackson.

Alex Verus series

The Night Circus is my all time FAVORITE book and I haven't yet found one that compares. There's a MG/YA book that had the feel of the Night Circus, no where as good but enjoyable with that magical feeling.

The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments Thanks so much, Karsyn!
I had the first Alex Versus on my shelves, but I have so many books on there that I didn't remember it. It just got majorly bumped up my TBR.
And I hadn't heard of the Nowhere Emporium- it looks really fun! I definitely might check it out.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments If you liked Mercy Thompson, check out Karen Marie Moning's FEVER series (the original 5 books).

I read the first few in that series a number of years ago, I should go back and reread and continue the series. Thanks for the recommendation!

Cait S | 2825 comments I don't know about siiiimilar necessarily but in the vein of "really great YA fantasy":

Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton Of Metal and Wishes (Of Metal and Wishes, #1) by Sarah Fine The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy, #1) by Mindee Arnett The Falconer (The Falconer, #1) by Elizabeth May The Monstrumologist (The Monstrumologist, #1) by Rick Yancey

Michelle | 3560 comments Kevin Hearne Iron Druid chornicles are awesome. These are really funny and from what I've heard the audio versions of these are awesome. The first book in the series is Hounded

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments Thanks so much, Cait! Those do look good! Of Metal and Wishes caught my eye in particular :) This should keep me happy for a while!

Michelle- I was literally looking at Hounded yesterday and wondering if I should check it out from my library! I will definitely do so now after your recommendation! Thank you :)

I really liked the Cinder series! I am on hold for Stars Above on audio from my library. Great suggestion. Thanks, Poonam!

JennyR (jenniferra) I second Michelle's recommendation for Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid. The audio books are especially good and are at significantly discounted prices from Audible if you already own the Kindle books (I don't think I paid over $5 for any of the audios).

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments I see that! Thanks Jennifer!

Beth | 40 comments I'll third the Iron Druid Chronicles recommendation. It's one of my favorites.

A trilogy that was very good was The Grisha series by Leigh Bargudo, starting with Shadow and Bone.

Some past favorites have been a couple of Richelle Mead's adult urban fantasy series: the Georgina Kincaid books (starting with Succubus Blues) and Dark Swan series (starting with Storm Born).

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments Thanks, Beth!

I'm half way through Hounded and it's great! So thanks, guys!

Unpopular opinion, but I didn't actually care for the Grisha trilogy all that much. I did read the whole thing, though. I liked Six of Crows somewhat better. Definitely see why you suggested them for me though, as it is a popular series in YA fantasy.

I've read the first 2 or 3 Georgina Kincaid books and was liking them. Not totally sure why I stopped, but might decide to go back to the series :)

Victoria | 1132 comments For adult urban fantasy the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones is a lot of fun. The first book is First Grave on the Right and the audio version is also great.

For YA you might like the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy or the Stonewylde series. The School for Good and Evil series is a bit more for younger readers but I've found it great fun so far.

For more adult series there is The Graveyard Queen series or The Fairwick Chronicles.

A series I really enjoyed (and loved the audio of) is Midnight Riot The closest thing I can compare it to is a British Dresden Files. I like the audio sufficiently that it feels wrong to read a copy of them.

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments I have loved the Charley Davidson series, Victoria! The quotes at the beginning of the chapters are awesome. For some reason I got stuck on the seventh book, but I should try and push through to the latest installments!

Thanks, Pigletto- I really need to pick up the Penryn series, especially now that it's completed!

Ooh.. British Dresden Files.. I'm definitely intrigued! Thanks, Sophie.

Hope you guys are having a blast playing Wobble!

KellyJo (kellyjo02) I would recommend Witchling by Yasmine Galenorn. This is first book in a series about three sisters. The series rotates POV between the three sisters, which I liked. Gives reader a chance to get to know each sister.
