Graphic Novel Reading Group discussion

I'm stalling in reading new stuff, because I don't have a tablet yet and it kills me reading on a computer. So is Kindle fire big enough, is my question? Or recommendations? Is it possible to view other stuff(change the format with a program) to see non-Amazon comic on Fire? thanks!

Is the sole (or at least biggest by far) purpose of this tablet, reading digital comic? If the answer is an emphatic yes, then I have an answer for you. I was going through this phase 5-6 months ago and my solution is Nook HD+. It has beautiful screen, the size is perfect for reading comic and damn cheap. It is working great for me. If money is not a big concern for you (for me it was), then the best tablet you can buy for this purpose is Ipad (any version will work). Since the only purpose of a tablet for me was reading comics, I did not find merit to invest that much money and got me a nook HD+. Its screen quality (resolution) is great for reading comic.
While buying a tablet for Comics reading you need to keep in mind: a good resolution screen, a good size screen (10 inch+) and a good battery life is always handy.
Regarding possibility to view other stuff in Kindle fire - Comixology and Marvel Unlimited have their own interface for reading comics. If you meant CBR/CBZ DRM free files then I am sure, there will be compatible applications. But I am not 100% certain.

hmmm... I'm going to publish my own graphic novel in autumn, probably through Amazon...
no ipad is right out for me at this point...

I bought a Kindle Fire over other Kindles because I wanted the video option (that, years later, I rarely use) and the ability for color when it comes to comics, graphic novels and children's books. It's worth that if you read a lot of those.

Be warned the start up is rather slow and I think the kindles are a little buggy, but that's just me. I was disappointed, but still the best fit for me out of the Ereaders.

I have a Kindle Fire, but when I subscribed to Marvel Unlimited I couldn't run their app on it. I got a used Galaxy Tab 3 10.1" for a comparable price and couldn't be happier. I can read my Kindle books in the Kindle app, but can also run Marvel Unlimited, games, etc. You could probably even find a used Galaxy Tab 4 these days because I bought mine over a year ago.

I just read it on my on my phone, which is a terrible idea. I'm planning to probably get a Galaxy tab or an Ipad mini 4 soon so it's more portable. :) I tried the older kindles and they weren't really for me. The apps weren't available to be purchased in my country, which sucked so... I'm sticking with the regular tablets.

smartphones in my current life situation. I guess it's K Fire AND a galaxy of sorts.

I use a google Nexus 7 and have been since 2012ish. Would prefer a bigger screen, and I also have an iPad, but I much prefer Android's PerfectViewer over Apple's comic apps.

I have a Kindle Fire HD8. As an all around tablet for reading comics, novels, watching video, playing games, etc it's pretty great. If you were almost exclusively going to read comics, I would recommend something larger, like a 10" model. Comics read really well on the 8, but sometimes, depending on the graphic novel, illustration (and the words) can get a little cramped. But if you are planning on using it for novels, I think the 10" would be way too big.

The screen is beautiful. Sharp and vibrant.

I haven't found a really good free comic app that reads .cbr files. I have a suitable one, but there has to be something better. I prefer reading PDFs though and adobe reader works great for that.

I read some comics on my iPad mini and I was surprised by how well the books translated to it. I was afraid the screen was going to be too small, but I've found it to be more than enough for the comics I've read.
