I read Rage by Richard Bachman. Early in his career Stephen King wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. I've read much of King's work, but only a couple of Bachman's, so I bought a collection of four of his novels. I am going to review each one on its own.
Rage is the story of Charlie Decker, a high school senior who has a psychotic break (or does he?) and sets his locker on fire, shoots two teachers and takes an entire classroom of kids hostage. The whole story takes place within a few hours, with flashbacks to a younger Charlie's struggles with his father.
The story is Columbine-esque, although Charlie does not plan this grand hostage taking; nor is he intent on destroying his school. It is, however, an interesting look into a mind clouded with mental illness. How much is teenage angst and how much is true psychopathy? It is pretty typical of King in language and brutality.
