Welcome to the challenge Gini! The four corners sounds like the perfect challenge to start with -- good luck & have fun reading.

Veronique | 1154 comments Welcome Gini.
I like your book choices. Good luck :0)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 1285 comments Welcome! I plan on reading The Shipping News at some point as well. I'm on a North America trek. Will most likely also use it for Female Price Winner in bingo, unless some other book gets there first!

The Shipping News hadn't even been on my radar. Sounds wonderful. On my list now.

Thank you. Started a couple of the selections now.

Thank you. Classics has such an intimidating ring to it and now that I've started a couple it's not all that difficult. Glad to be a part here.

Thank you. A totally blind pick. Author's name rang a bell, so why not try one.

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome to classics bingo! The four corners look like a great goal and you've chosen some nice looking books. Good luck :)

Kathleen | 5465 comments Welcome to the fun, Gini! I haven't read any of these, but they all look good, and a good mix. I think you'll enjoy Annie Proulx.

message 12: by Gini (new)

Gini | 282 comments Slow going with this. Find myself reading anything but the choices I made. Got behind with some other reading that I'm obligated to as well. But that's nearly under control so maybe this challenge will turn out OK.
Lacuna seems pretty transparent as to where it's headed already and I'm just started. Don't like knowing where I'm headed so early in fiction.

message 13: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Don't worry, I always have the same problem, finding myself reading anything but my planned books. Remember you can change your choices if you want to, but there's plenty of time yet :)

Good to know I'm not the only one. Thanks fro the encouragement

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Ginib,

Don't worry about it if you end up reading other books than those you've planned for bingo.

It's a flexible challenge! It's all good!

I ended up reading several other books instead of those that I thought I'd read for this challenge and it's still a lot of fun!

This is the second year that I wanted to read "Dangerous Liaisons" for bingo as I've been wanting to read it. However, I keep making changes and still haven't read it.

I'll get that book read eventually!

Just have fun!

Thanks for the encouragement here. Sorry to be so long in a response--out of pocket lately. Have made some progress though, so I'm more pleased with myself. :)
Dangerous Liasons? A new title for me, have to check it out.

Gini | 282 comments AT LAST!! Got the first square covered. Kingsolver's The Lacuna is read. Review posted for anyone who is interested. Sure glad I chose a simple bingo this time around. Classics require a bit more work. :)

Well done :)

Gini | 282 comments Just started Shipping News by Proulx. Reads well, characters unusual to say the least, but still believable enough to pull the reader into the story. Watching a couple of them that pop in and open a new direction for Quoyle to see if that's their only function. Prose reminds me of the pace and directness I've heard in an upper northeast region of the USA. Maybe, the speech pattern of the setting?

message 22: by Gini (new)

Gini | 282 comments All I can say is WOW! Shipping News is a tough act to follow. Can't remember reading anything like this before. So Chabon may have to wait a couple days just to give him a fair shake.
Still working on the Great Enigma collection. You just can't rush that one.

Great to see your response to it. I just put it on my TBR list.

message 24: by Gini (new)

Gini | 282 comments I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

message 25: by Gini (new)

Gini | 282 comments Going to abandon the Chabon choice for this challenge and find another. Just not working for me. Maybe some other time.

Gini | 282 comments Adding
O1: Literary Prize of Your Country/Region I Am Not Sidney Poitier by Percival Everett
The sample is pure craziness and that sounds good about now

message 27: by Gini (new)

Gini | 282 comments Done with bingo challenge. Found several new authors, ones I'd never have read, through this and appreciate it for that. Worth the effort. Thanks for the opportunity.

message 28: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 1285 comments Congrats on Bingo!
I'm really looking forward to reading The Shipping News now. :)

Was the Percival Everett one any good?

message 29: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 1285 comments Just saw your review. I need to look into Percival Everett's books. He looks like an interesting author.

message 30: by Gini (new)

Gini | 282 comments Leni-- thanks. Do take a look a Everett. I was thinking of reading him again pretty soon.
