James Renner (jamesrenner) | 2 comments Big fan of this group and I hope I've written a book you might like.

My latest book, True Crime Addict, comes out May 24. It's about my five-year investigation into the strange disappearance of Maura Murray. For those unfamiliar with the case, Maura Murray was a nursing student at UMass, in 2004. On a Monday morning in February, she emailed professors to say there had been a death in the family and they should hold her work. This was a lie. Nobody in her family had died. She then emptied her bank account, bought some booze, and drove into the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Later that night, she crashed her cat into a snowbank on the side of the road. Several people who lived nearby called the police to help her. Between the time of the accident and the time the first officer arrived on scene, which could not have been more than 7 minutes, Maura disappeared.

In early newspaper reports and unsolved crime show profiles, Maura was made out to be perfect to a fault, with no troubles in the world, no reason to run away. i quickly discovered this was not true. Her life mirrors Laura Palmer's from Twin Peaks, actually. At the time she disappeared, she was in trouble for credit card fraud and identity theft. She was having an affair with her track coach, and sometimes talked about starting a new life in Mexico.

This book is filled with the most bizarre characters I've ever run across. It's also part memoir and deals with my personal struggles raising a kid with behavioral issues and wanting to shape him into a decent man, while investigating the worst of humanity.

It's scary, it's weird, it's funny at times. The Library Journal says it's "an entrancing, brilliant next step for fans of the podcast Serial, Netflix's Making a Murderer, and other true crime cases."

You can learn more about Maura's case here:http://mauramurray.blogspot.com/

True Crime Addict will be available everywhere books are sold, May 24, and can be preordered today: http://www.amazon.com/True-Crime-Addi...

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments I congratulate you not only on getting the book out, but also on writing a coherent, edited post free of errors. Posts by authors which contain a wealth of errors make me hesitant to buy the book, rightly or wrongly.

Shelley | 1225 comments From the start of the Amazon description of the book:

"When an eleven year old James Renner fell in love with Amy Mihaljevic, the missing girl seen on posters all over his neighborhood, it was the beginning of a lifelong obsession with true crime."

Makes me want to read what your book all the more! :)

It does sound like a fascinating read and I just put it on my wish list.

Shelley | 1225 comments James: I LOVED your book. I wrote about it here in the "Books Read in 2016" section.

You mention that you might drop researching and writing 'true crime' in the book. Still true?

Koren (koren56) | 1601 comments Well, I didnt win the book so I had to buy it based on the excellent reviews here.
Love the reference to Donald Trump on page 11: Donald Trump is probably a sociaopath. But it's what makes him successful.

I'm assuming that was written before he became a candidate for president.
