Michael Connelly is my favorite; have you ever read John Sandford? Very good, also Lisa Gardner, Jonathan Kellerman, Brian Freeman, Richard Montanari, and Linda Castillo.

But Sandford isn't very good if you don't want to know who the culprit is at the beginning. Because he has a tendency to follow both the cop and the culprit.

But Crais is good. I also like Connelly.
