Six for Sunday

I'm almost always left disappointed when bands reunite, but I've sorta got high hopes for the Alice Cooper Band reunion... they're reportedly heading into the studio again, for the first time in over forty years. Hopefully to be followed by a tour.
^ Thanks Mark. So relieved that you're not the fighting sort or inclined toward merciless mocking. I'd be the first to admit that my six was not created from a position of in depth knowledge about Alice Cooper. That said, I have yet to hear any song by them that tops Schools Out (overplayed though it undoubtedly is/was).
New York Dolls - Six for Sunday
1. Trash ….another song that showed nascent punk rockers the way. Just superb, all but disintegrates in the middle before sparking back to life for the second half. Stunning
2. Looking for a Kiss ….we’ve all been there, in love, LUV, and looking for a kiss. Kiss this!
3. Personality Crisis ….one of the first songs by the Dolls that I ever heard, quite Stonesy, like a lot of their stuff, but with their punk sensibility - a song about the messed up characters that were drawn to the band
4. Lonely Planet Boy ….a rare example of a Dolls ballad and quite wonderful it is too
5. Frankenstein ….chaotic, explosive, and pure proto-punk. Love it
6. Babylon ….ferocious, sleazy opener to the second album
Bubbling under…
Human Being - Signposting where the Heartbreakers would follow a few years later
Chatterbox - Rip roaring Thunders showcase
Who Are the Mystery Girls? - Title is better than the song, but it’s still a goodie
Jet Boy - Jet Boy stole my baby. Hell yes. Thunders at his best here. Big, dumb, raucous rock n roll
Bad Girl - What is the matter with you Bad Girl? Exhilarating, they seem to be able to do this stuff in their sleep. Those drums are irresistible.
Pills - Great Bo Diddley cover that they made their own
Puss 'N' Boots - noisy girl group inspired pop tune.. now you're walkin' just like you're ten feet tall
Private World - Loose, raw and with a great street swagger.
It’s Too Late - Bluesy raver that could well have been the template for Pretty Vacant

Not really Mark. That first comeback album was good, on its own terms, but nothing to compare with the original incarnation. In my head they are two different bands who happen to share the same name. What about you?
All that said, the film about Arthur Kane, New York Doll, is utterly wonderful. Guaranteed to bring a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye.

In 100% agreement about the Killer Kane film, though... one of the best rock films I've ever seen, and one that stays with you long after the final credits have rolled.
Incidentally, I also felt the same way about the two albums from the reunited Stooges, although the gigs were some of the best Iggy gigs I ever saw.
Our guitar player was lucky enough to see the reunited Only Ones play in Tokyo, and he reported that they sounded brilliant. Shame they couldn't keep it together long enough to finish the comeback album that they'd allegedly started recording.
The Doors - Six for Sunday
So, yes, The Doors, they may be deeply unfashionable these days, indeed frequently derided by many, however there is no denying their enormous influence and, I’d say, for anyone willing to put aside their lack of credibility, they were a brilliant band. Amazing tunes, one of the all time great front men, synonymous with their era, and the music still really stands up. So, here are my "Six for Sunday" by The Doors….
1. Light My Fire - long album version
2. L.A. Woman
3. Love Me Two Times
4. Touch Me
5. Break on Through (To the Other Side)
6. Soul Kitchen

That had passed me by - I've known a few avid Doors fans, and as a result have a vast amount of their stuff on mp3, when the most I'd need is a one disc Best of. Otherwise I'd simply not seen them alluded to much in the media.
