All About Animals discussion

I don't have time to write for the Debbie's Animal Planet thread anymore, but I can manage to list book titles and post review links for the animal books that I read. Fair warning: I have a very antiquated taste when reading, and not everyone would be interested in the same titles. But I think it will be fun to create a special list of the books I read featuring animals, whether they are tame or wild, good or bad, happy or sad. Thanks for creating this opportunity, Barb!

Ben the dog plays an important role in the main character's life in the second half of this book. Those of you who are too tender-hearted may not care for some of the realities of circus life as portrayed here, but the major focus of the story is our hero Gary anyway.

The main character has a horse named Umpqua. Not the typical cowboy/horse story, but Umpqua does play an important role.

White-handed gibbons, leopard cats, a white crow, Amherst pheasants and a royal tiger!

Rabbits, birds, rats, a fox, bats, a bear....and a dog named Carlo. Some gruesome scenes with the boy Toby, though. Not for the squeamish.

This is really more of a travel memoir than an animal book, although of course without the wonderful mare La Marquesa the author could not have ridden cross-country (or anywhere) for a month.

Main animal character is a race horse but there are also two nifty Great Danes that I wish had been more active in the story!
