The story starts with a middle aged man, Shyam Mohan, coming to an orphanage to celebrate the sixteenth birthday of a cute and naive orphan girl, Aviya Mary. She was found abandoned as an infant on a railway track, and rescued by a priest, who fosters her in the orphanage attached to the church. She grows up to become the most beautiful and talented girl in the locality, which attract both the envy and praise of the other students. Being a kindhearted girl she incurs the sympathy and love of other children as well as the old people in the old age home. Shyam Mohan is one of the kindhearted who even keeps aside his life for the children in the orphanage. His father and the then priest were thick friends. In that way his connection with the orphanage started from his very birth. One day, Jose, a drop out from a college and a son of one of the big shots of the locality, happens to see Aviya on the way. She was passing by the road along with her intimate friend Eleena. Up to this time Jose has been trying his best to seduce Eleena, but in vain. However, seeing the beauty and charm of Aviya, Jose gets obsessed with her and targets Aviya. Jose learns that Aviya is the leader of the choir, and he decides to move in that route. With that intention he attends the Sunday Mass after a gap of long years, but that also went futile. Jose was never willing to give up. One evening, things turn upside down after his peeping at her playing with the other children.
The story covers the overwhelming corruption, avarice, and lust prevalent in the solipsistic sections of the society, along with the beauty and the current socio-political and cultural scenario of the state of Kerala (A south Indian state), with a little mention of the uncertainty of human mind and criminal psychology. As a side plot the story touches the peripheral life of other two teenage girls also. one of them is Eleena, and the other one is an absolute stranger to the main characters of the story. But the life of all the three are intertwined. Lawrence, who is introduced in the middle part of the story, plays a deciding role in the life of the three teenagers.
