which books do you guys have in mind?

You are not looking hard enough :) The first example which comes to mind is The Black Company, the second: Elric. Both of these are nothing like LotR.

Just read this, and it was excellent, and absolutely nothing like LOTR.

I liked Black Company but Amber was terrible.

it will soon be time to start nominating for our July read. I have been seeing a lot of dissatisfaction with the standard of many new fantasy books and a lot of warm thoughts on past reads.
So what would you all think to having all nominations for July to be books published before 1990? Just an idea. Let me know what you all think. Thanks
