1. Significant other? Children? Pets? Been with my husband 12 years, been married 8 years. We have two children - Calvin who was born and passed away in 2013 and Paul who was born in 2014. We also have two cats - Pi (like the math symbol) and Zaphod (from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

2. What do you do for a living? I'm a stay-at-home mom. I volunteer at my local history museum and would love to work there one day. But I'm very content where I am right now.

3. What is your favorite color? Green, preferably a dark green. Also a big fan of purple. Green and purple were my wedding colors.

4. What destination would be your dream vacation? I would love to go to England one day. I've always been fascinated by all things British.

5. What is your favorite book genre? History or really anything non-fiction.

6. Who are three of your favorite authors? Oh, this one is hard! Michael Crichton, Erik Larson, David McCullough. This changes sometimes based off what I’m reading ;-)

7. What's your favorite word? I don't know if I really have one. Never really thought about it!

8. What actress/actor should play you a film in your life story? Tina Fey. I really like her and I’ve been told I have her sense of humor.

9. Will you tell us a funny or favorite story about yourself? I have a big brother I didn’t know about until I was 28. My father had been married two times before my mother. He had a child with his first wife when he was 20 but due to several circumstances gave up custody, thinking it best at the time. He never talked about it, it pained him so much. Unbeknownst to me (my father was a VERY private man), he searched for his son but never had luck. In 2013, 5 months after my father passed the funeral home got a call asking for contact information for my mom. The funeral director is a family friend so he contacted my mom to warn her my dad had an affair and there was a kid! – he was unaware that my brother was born 12 year BEFORE they even married (and that my mom was aware of said child)! Turns out my brother had been looking for our dad for 17 years but unfortunately the only information he finally found was the online obituary and got confirmation from his mother that indeed, it was his dad. So unfortunately, he never got to meet our dad but I gained a brother, a sister-in-law, and two nephews at 28 years old. He is 15 years older than me and lives in Illinois.

10. What are your hobbies? Besides reading? Cross-stitching, knitting, coloring.

11. Where is your favorite place to read? In bed. My books shelves line pretty much the whole bedroom and I have a comfy bed. So it’s like reading in my private library. Don’t get to do that much anymore though.

12. What is your favorite sport to watch or play? Honestly, not really into sports. Soccer is the closest thing to the occasional watching and I did try out for the soccer team in high school…and did not get in lol.

13. What was your favorite subject in school? When I was in high school it was German. Not only did I get pretty good at it, ending up in the German Honor Society but my teacher for all four years was amazing, her and I are still friends over 13 years later.

14. How are you creative? Oh me? I’d say I’m not. I guess I can be a creative cook, I can whip up something with practically nothing.

15. What is your favorite sandwich? Reuben. But with mustard, not Russian dressing. The only time I used to have them was when my daddy and I would go out to eat (which was rare), he’s the one that made me try them. Now not only do I love the taste but it always make me think of my late father.

16. What do you think is your very best feature or characteristic? Physical feature? My hair. I donate it every few years. I figure it will grow up and others need it. Which I guess brings me to my best characteristic – I’m giving and caring. Taking care of others is my thing.

17. If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for? It would be just my closest friends and family. And I’ll use any reason to celebrate. For my 28th Birthday (the year I lost my son and dad), it was decided I need a pick-me-up and I had a party at my mom’s to celebrate just being alive. And I didn’t even realize I had so many friends but over 50 showed up. We just had a bbq but it was so amazing and the love there was awesome.

18. If you could paint a picture of anything, what would you paint? (thinking about it, will answer later)

19. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? (thinking about it, will answer later)

20. What’s your favorite comfort food? Grilled cheese and tomato soup. Daddy always used to make it for us on dreary days. I still make it when I’m feeling down.

BONUS Tell us three things about yourself not covered in these questions.
- I met my husband online when I was 18 and certainly not looking for a relationship, neither was he (he was 25 at the time). 3 days after I turned 19 we met in person – he lived about 40 miles away. And shortly afterwards we started dating. He moved to Colorado Springs a year later and the rest as they say is history.
- I’m dyslexic. And because of that I did not get my love of reading when I was child like many people. I HATED reading because it just didn’t make sense to me and was so frustrating. In 3rd grade my teacher knew I was having problems but assumed I was just “special” and put me in special education classes which life was hard enough for me without kids constantly teasing me for being taken away for that and I was so miserable. My mom finally pulled me out of the classes and got me a private tutor where the problem was eventually found out. I didn’t actually find my love for reading until I was about 13. I still can’t read aloud without some kind of panic attacks.
- I met one of my best friends here on Goodreads in 2012 when we started discussing a book we both had read. She is from Germany and currently living in Poland. We have become extremely close. And she and her boyfriend will be traveling to the US this fall to visit me! How cool is that?

Some years back the City of Milwaukee Public School system decided to open a few "magnet" schools. One was the German Language Immersion School. All courses were taught in German - starting in Kindergarten.

Some friends signed their daughters up - a 5 year old and a 6 year old. It was the first day of school for both of them (the older girl had NOT gone to kindergarten).

When then got home from school Mom & Dad were anxious to find out how their day went. Their response: "It was pretty fun. At the end of the day, the teachers took us to the bus and after we got on the teachers all waved and yelled out 'Our Feet Are the Same'"
(Auf Wiedersehen for those who don't speak German)

I never knew you are dyslexic, Leah. What a wonderful tutor you must have had to not only diagnose the problem, but help turn you on to reading, and into the reader you are today.

Most people would never know I have a learning disability looking at how much I read. I do tend to read well to myself (I'm not going to lie, I can sorta skim over the words throwing me for a loop, or take my time in working through it). Reading aloud is a nightmare, I seriously sound like an 8 year old. It also made it so I missed out on a lot of YA books until I was much older. Anne of Green Gable, Little Women, Rhoald Dahl, etc - missed it all until I was in my 20s and 30s.
