Man! You miss one day! Let me make sure I understand, regardless of the heat we're in, can we start at the start of the Olympic games?

I have a title ending with Girl: Sorcery and the Single Girl by Mindy Klasky.

I have a title ending with One: Divine One by Lynne Ewing

I have a title that is Lost: Lost by Gregory Maguire

Why don't we put you down for Divine One. Titles have to be at least 2 words for this event so Lost won't work. It could be used for other events though.

Regardless of the Heat or leg we can all start at the same time. The books don't have to be read in order.

We just have to finish Heat 1 before we can start working on Events 2 through 5.

So here is a leg that could use 2 more books:

I'm sad..ok only a bit sad, but those relays look like so much fun and I don't want to commit to too much, with everything that needs to be done. I really, really want to jump in with books and join you in all of them though.

Shanna you can always sign up for a 2nd book in Heat 2 since those books don't have to be finished right away (and you can use that as your 2nd book to read since you'll have to wait for us to finish Heat 1 before even starting on your books for the other events). Heat 2 will be on the same timeline as the rest of the events!

Erika would you mind switching your first book to Sorcery and the Single Girl? That way we can move you to Heat 2 so you can take your time on your book and not feel rushed? (This is only if you feel more comfortable). Please let me know!!

Shanna, also if we finish the other events and open up the bonus rounds, we'll have some bonus relays to do as well.

Some other books I have available to toss into the mix (I know we are still waiting to hear from Sarah and Rachel).

I have:

Blood Law, which may work better in a relay to match 'Law' instead of 'homicide' from the other Blood book I mentioned before.

And I can read California Dreamers which could hook into Storm's book.

Just checked in, thank god, but I have no idea what is going on. So I got my last book for battleship on my wobble shelf with four minutes to spare, however didn't get it on the books read thread quite in time, due to typing everything - it better count.

I don't understand what the hell is going on but I can read A Girl at War, I keep seeing we need something for girl? But I may only be able to do my one book a week right now. I have that book right now from library. What do we need? This is confusing

Can we pop up "due dates" so to speak for each read? Basically, are we shooting to have our reads done by Friday or what ever the day may be?

So do I need a book in heat 1 or 2? If that is the case I will have to bump somebody? Let me know. If this is the case Girl at War would work. I would be bumping someone, but they also have another read in Heat 2. But I am a little confused.

Sarah for the first event we are linking titles of books together. We might be able to start a new chain with your book (a girl at war) but let is play around to see if that will work. In the meantime do you have any other books you can start with or is that the only one?

You just need to do one book in heat 1 or heat 2.

We can make Girl at War fit into a leg and probably will put that leg in heat 2. We can shift things around and make things work.

Things have gotten really confusing in the thread. Cathy, Angela, and I will get everything straightened out and get a summary post up so the relays are clear.

I'm only on my phone right now sitting in patient first with a sick husband. But I'll try to get it up shortly.

Sarah can you please confirm if your book title is "A Girl at War" or just "Girl at War"? Because all words in the title count that will make the difference.

Other books I could do soon would be All the Light We Cannot See (but that may be good for a page count) and Looking for Alaska, and Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania - both maybe not best for titles as well as Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America. I just need one book.

Do we have a spreadsheet that lists the legs in the heats so we don't have to look through the messages to see what has been added etc?

I can read another book for any of the other legs that aren't completed yet. what words are we currently looking for, or are we still trying to decide on which to start with?

Cathy, Angela, and I think we have it all straightened out and it should be up in the thread soon so people can see where the needs still are

One announcement I need to make is Rachel sent us a request this evening to be replaced. Due to some personal issues, she didn't feel like she could keep her commitment to the team. While we are sorry to see her go, it's more important for her to take care of herself and do what's best for her.

We wished her well and I put in a request for a replacement team member this evening.

For now though we are operating with one less person, so we don't need to reserve a spot for her in the title relay.

FYI - Sarah, we have your last book logged in for Battleship for a nice 7 points (page points + bonus point)

Cathy is typing up all of the legs in a post as I type this. But we were able to shift some books around and get Girl at War into a relay. So you should be all set for this event.


Thanks to everyone for your patience as we try to sort everything out from title relays to team member issues.

You can add Lie Down with Lions to leg 1 of heat 2. Lions might be a difficult first words, but maybe we can find something that ends with dreamers to finish the leg.

I have a book called Dark Dreamers which I could read. It is a book of 2 novellas. Can someone tell me if this would work? I would read both novellas, so as to have it count as this title if that is acceptable.

Yes, that works. GR considers it a book and has it listed as such so that will work!

I can read Modern Sorcery if no one else has a book.

It is available on kindle unlimited if someone else wants to read it. I'm fine with taking the spot, but I'm trying not to be a space hog :)

I think we FINALLY have everything sorted out for all of the main relays.

I put the relay list Cathy posted updated with the last few spots now filled in, in one of my reserve posts at the top of the thread.

Cathy also made a new tracking spreadsheet for the Olympic Games that is in my links post called 'Currently Reading - Olympics'. You can poke around at some of the other events to start thinking about other books you'd want to read for tasks.



But NOTHING else can be read (that counts towards the game) aside from things for Event 1 until all legs of Heat 1 are completed.

Question: If I read a book between games but it was started and completed during wobble should it be noted in the READ thread and popped on my shelf just in case its allowed to be used somewhere a long the line?

Just finished After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall. It was different, but I liked it. Usually time travel isn't my thing, but this was all right.

I see that you have a question beside Judith on Modern Sorcery. I could read Steam & Sorcery. That's for Heat 2 so it doesn't have to be done right away, correct?

No, there isn't a rush on Heat 2 books. Let me know if you want to swap out.

Also there is a book I think in battleship that only one book was read for instead of two where we wouldn't get points for that square, can't that book be banked for later too?

Before we assigned the final bonus books, we made sure each book had a partner as to not miss out on points. So that isn't an issue.

We aren't allowed to 'bank books', if a book is finished during a certain game it must be used for that game or it won't count.

Now you can start a book during one game and end up using it in a different game, whenever you finish the book. The exception being Olympics due to the structure and rules of the game.

What about started during Battleship and finished first day of Olympics? I finished it this morning but will only add it if it can count. Otherwise it is just a first in a series where my Heat 1 read was the book 2 and I wanted to read them in order.

Go ahead and put the details in the books read thread and I'll ask the mods about it.

If you guys have books for other events that you'd like to read, please shout out! We can add it to the Planning Spreadsheet so other people don't read for the same task. Remember everyone has to read at least 1 book for Events 2 & 5 so we should look at them first. Event 3 can be done by anyone (minimum 3 members) and Event 4 are reading sprints (minimum 3 members).

I have a Tools book I got as a freebie from Amazon a long time ago (just for a task like this!) so I've added that to Event 5.
