Well I have things that cover just about everything too. So I'll pair up with people on a couple of the misses and leave some of the easier tasks to people that haven't checked in yet.

I'll sign up for I-7 & J-10 and complete those.

I'm also going to try and keep an up to date list going in my reserve posts with assignments so when we get later in the game people don't have to troll through the thread.

Erin, I'll put you down for I-7 and move my selection to contemporary.

I usually go by whether or not Goodreads puts it in a series. And I went to the main book page for The Dispossessed and it is logged as a single book and not part of a series (it doesn't say Hainish Cycle #5 after the title). So likely no, it can't work.

However, I can ask in the captains group for an official ruling. But the mods usually check the same way I just did so I don't think their answer will be different. But I'm willing to ask if you want.

If no one have a #5 book, we can try

(I'm spending almost all my freetime f5 this page! )

I have a series 5 book I can read if we need it.

I'll see what we need after I read the two I already signed up for. LOL

I was about to post the exact same thing :). I'll wait until this evening to see what else is needed, I have several that can fit these tasks.

Not sure if we're supposed to post what books we are reading but here goes. these are the books I will be reading for my 2 books:

I-7: Starlighter by Bryan Davis

and

J-1: Smoke in Mirrors by Jayne Anne Krentz

You'll need to let us know when you have finished a book and which task/space. That way one of the captains can go in and update the spreadsheet.

Also, we'll need to know how it meets the task if it isn't obvious. Like for the one word title, we know because clearly the title is one word. But for say the audiobook task it would be helpful if you tell us who the narrator is.

But please share whatever books you are reading whenever you want. We can get some good team discussions about books that way. And most of us will be diligently adding a bunch to our to-read list :)

Foxy Grandma (foxygrandma) | 450 comments I am in the US(EST), so with the time difference I can not start a book until 5am tomorrow morning right?

I am going to be on the beach tomorrow and Saturday so I should get at least two-three books read by time I get home Sunday.

I will get online first thing in morning and see where books are needed.

Another question, do I post books I am reading in my wobble shelf or do I post them there when I am done?

message 161: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
That reminds me, please make sure when you start your books tomorrow to place them on your designated wobble shelf.

And when you are finished that that get marked as read with the proper read date. Otherwise they won't pull into the spreadsheet correctly.

Usually this isn't a problem as long as things get shelved right but every now and then if people are using the app, bizarre things happen.

Shanna_redwind | 598 comments I'm reading The Gift. I'm not super excited about it because I was just meh on the first one, but it's been on my to read list. I loved the worldbuilding, but hated the secondary characters, especially the bad guys (and not in the way you're supposed to hate them)

Desperately hoping this one will be better.

message 165: by Erika (new)

Erika I have a book that fits the B-9, Audiobook is narrated by a famous person and another that I could do for either E-5, Author's first name is on the nameberry list or J-10 as it's the 6th in a series.

:)

Is there a format to completion posting?

message 166: by Erin (new)

Erin | 153 comments I am reading Eternal by C. C. Hunter could that count as book 5 of a series? It is book 5 in the Shadow Falls series but Della's second book.

message 167: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
For Eternal, GR is saying it's book 2 in Shadow Falls: After Dark series.

Not being familiar with the series I'm guessing GR considers them to be 2 series. One called Shadow Falls and one called Shadow Falls: After Dark.

So I'm going to say no, sorry :(

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Erika I'd say go for B-9 and/or E-5. I can put you done for both if you want.

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Format for Battleship Completion Posting:

Book
Page Number*
Goal/Task (space name like A1 is fine)
Reason

I think that's all we'll need.

*page number is useful if the script doesn't pull the right number into the spreadsheet. This happens on ebook versions sometimes and always if you log as the audiobook version since audiobooks don't technically have pages. For audiobooks, just use the page count from the default GR edition. For books use whatever the page count is for the edition you actually read.

Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival - Velma Wallis

and C3 - Alliteration in title
The Cocoa Conspiracy - Andrea Penrose

Erika Judith wrote: "Erika I'd say go for B-9 and/or E-5. I can put you done for both if you want."

Battleship goes for 2 weeks, right? If that's the case, I'll gladly sign up for both. It'll keep me on my reading toes, so to speak. Plus, one of these books has been in my TBR pile for 2 years.

and the second book for C3 (alliteration) with Redemption Road

If I have time I will do the second book for E5 (English name) with Blood in Her Veins: Nineteen Stories from the World of Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter

I'll update the assignment post at the top of the thread tomorrow. Our power has gone out so that means no internet and just leaves me with the app.

Sarah | 3273 comments I don't know what is left. I think all my choices are taken. But I can do Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right by Jane Mayer, Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, and/or The Headmaster's Wife by Thomas Christopher Greene.
The first two fit historical. - one over 400 pages and one over 500 pages.
The third book is Contemporary - over 700 pages
The forth book is author first name Thomas - popular name in England - over 300 pages.

message 177: by Sarah (last edited Jun 16, 2016 09:27PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I also should point out I understand this is a first come first serve for signing up for categories but as a team we should take into account page numbers if we want to maximize points. Some of my books could yeild more points in certain categories then some other peoples choices in those same categories. If we want to think about strategy this is something to pay attention to/consider.

message 178: by Angela (new)

Angela | 504 comments Sarah, why don't you use your contemporary? I can pick a different category for book 2.

message 179: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Remember up to 8 add'l people can read the hit tasks for bonus points (+ page #s) so as long as 2 people finish the hit tasks, we can get the bonus points for the additional books. (Bonus books must be finished after the 2 main people finish)

This round I believe everyone has picked a task already? I probably won't get much reading done this weekend so I'll take a primary task on the next set of tasks and start on a longer one to use for a bonus book once everyone is done with their tasks.

Good point & I agree Sarah!

message 181: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Putting it another way for the bonuses - it's still early but we should take advantage of the bonus points we can get - 8 points for 8 people reading bonuses x 4 hit tasks = 32 extra points. On Mondays tasks if we get 6 hits, that's 48 extra points.

We might also want to think about having our fastest readers reading for the hit tasks. That way those 2 readers can finish those tasks quick and everyone else can read for bonus points for those same tasks.

message 182: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Good points.

Well it looks like we should both read for this category and get bonus points. As well as my historical for a bonus. And I can do The Headmaster's Wife for a bonus on a mystery.

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Amy the game hasn't started yet so that book will not count, sorry.

Everyone - please pay attention to the start of the game - we've posted the Wobble Timer a couple times before (you can see that on the 1st page of our thread and I believe on the Wobble FAQs page). The game does not begin for about another 2 hours 28 minutes. Any books started before that will NOT count.

message 185: by [deleted user] (new)

Whoops! Guess I got a little over-excited :p I've got a mystery back-up so that's fine, more reading for me!

message 186: by Shanna_redwind (new)

Shanna_redwind | 598 comments I've also got a contemporary book that I'm going to start for the bonus points :On the Island

I have one for Alliteration as well, but its only 141 pages, so I'll wait on it for now and see if someone has a longer one :Collision Course

message 187: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
For the hits, whoever the first 2 that finish will be checked as the ones who complete the task. Whether or not they were the first 2 that signed up for the task.

Then anyone else reading for it will be for bonus points. It just makes the most sense to do it that way.

Yep, we have 20 points from our 4 hits. Some teams sunk ships with the first go (subs are only one space).

When I get time today, I'll link the team totals with the other links in the top posts so ya'll can reference it easily whenever you want.

I can also post our team standing periodically if people want like weekly and maybe at the end of each game?

message 193: by Rachel (new)

Rachel C (rachcl) | 53 comments I just started to read The Vile Village :D I didn't think on numbers of pages when i chose this book. Maybe i can stop and re-read Guards! Guards! and we get 1+ points? (I'm dying to re-read this book for a long time).

I was thinking about strategy.
The best way to get more points, is to chose big books to start the task and after, we can combine page lenght to get the max bonus points?
ex: If i decide to read Cloud Atlas that has 500+ p. , for E-5 as bonus point, the ideal is the next person read max 300+
Is this right?

And i would like the weekly report :D it's nice for give us a boost (:

message 194: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Regardless of whether it is for a task or bonus, you will always earn points for the page counts. So for all books, the higher the page count, the more points it will earn.

I think where the confusion lies is where it says 8 maximum bonus points (a couple people asked the mods about that in the captains group) - that just means only 8 additional people can read for that task for bonus points.

For example, if for 1 task we have 8 add'l people read for the bonus, that's 8 bonus points. Then add to that the page count points. So if all 8 people read 200 pg books, then that will be 2 book points x 8 books = 16 points for page counts. So total 24 points for that task for the bonus books.

Does that help?

Now I get it :D I thought that the max where 8 points, and not 8 people reading.

I just figure out that my edition of guards guards has 432p. and not 370+-.
