If someone has a book with Star in the title, it would finish off Card 1. Currently all of the books placed there have been read and then we could get a new card.

Angela | 504 comments I can read Adaline Falling Star. It's less than 200 pages, so I should be done in a couple hours.

I think we used that one for the STAR spell it out.

I hope your little one feels better soon! I swear, it's harder to see them sick than for me to be sick.

Sarah | 3273 comments I will start The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver next. Has bones on cover or in title. We can also move Bone Gap to has bone in title but then will need to find a cover with something that flies, which I could do later. Whatever works. But is someone else wants to also read Bone Gap for this spot - I highly recommend.

Angela wrote: "I'm a little confused by the initials. First and last need to be one of those letters?"

Yes. So we need an author whose first and last initials are a combination of two of those letters like AL, LK, KA, AA, etc.

message 3014: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments I needed it for another challenge so am currently listening to The Unleashing which would fit the Paranormal task.

CARD 5
The local fool is wandering around town speaking in riddles... or at least you think they're riddles. He keeps talking about wanting a cup of joe but you can't figure out how Joe (the 300 pound farmer down the road) could fit in a cup. Then he told you to eighty-six the moldy bread and you told him who would want eighty six pieces of moldy bread... Then he started talking about having a field day with the new rat stew recipe in the tavern but he wasn't even in the field that day. You really must help him regain his sanity so he doesn't keep spouting off gibberish.

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Stay safe Sarah!

With Linda's completed book entered the card in the official sheet and was able to get some battles/quick Exp in! We are only 3 Exp from leveling up our hero which we should be able to do tomorrow since we're almost done with another one.

I think the idiom one should be fairly easy since they are in most books! Here is a good resource if you want to look some up: http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com.

CARD 3
The local librarian (a powerful political position in Novel Kingdom) is walking around looking frazzled in the tavern. You gently take the book out of his hands and notice it's a dictionary. You ask him what the problem is. "I just can't find the word I'm looking for! Property of something or other!" You calm him down and assure him that you'll help find the word he's looking for.
Read a book where the plot, a main character, or other large apsect of the book reflects the words definition.

Tasks:
•Ubiety - the quality or state of being in a place
•Perpetuity - the state or quality of lasting forever
•Palatability - the property of being acceptable to the mouth
•Acceptability - the quality or state of meeting one's needs adequately
•Isotropic - having a physical property that has the same value when measured in different directions
•Uniformity - always the same, as in character or degree; unvarying
•Adaptability - capable of being adapted

Rewards:
•10 Experience
•1 Greater Poison Potion

message 3035: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
I'm tempted to keep it actually. I like the rewards and I think we'll have flexibility in interpreting how the plots fit the words. I'm not sure it's going to be as hard as one thinks at first glance.

message 3036: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
I think Erin's book, Fracture, can be used for adaptability. The MC's mind adapted and developed new abilities after the near death experience.

Fire plays a central role in the plot of The Good Goodbye and that has uniform properties.

And I'm reading Death of a Crafty Knitter which it set in a small town that never changes year after year.

So that's 3 of the tasks. If other team members want to drop it we can, but I think this one is actually fun to be creative in meeting the tasks.

message 3040: by Tati (new)

Tati | 1350 comments Considering that in The Understatement of the Year, one of the guys was kicked out of the team for being gay (his parents kicked him out, too) and some of the new teammates struggle with the fact that he gay, could it work for palatability? (due to some people thinking he's not suitable for playing hockey?)

message 3041: by Angela (new)

Angela | 504 comments That does work for palatability of ideas or feelings, but the quest specified taste, so I'm not sure. I did find 'given them the benefit of the doubt' in the text, so I can put it down as a book that contains an idiom.

message 3044: by Sarah (last edited Oct 16, 2016 12:49AM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Wow you learn something new everday. So The Bone Collector is not my typical genre with real detective work. I think this is probably well researched and there is all these abbreviations for the crime scene and forensic collection and stuff, but about 100 pages in and I just discovered a glossary in the back of the book. At first I was having trouble getting into this type of book. I have read crime novels before, but this has a lot of the forensic side to it that I have never encountered before. I know some people read nothing but these types of novels. Well, it's my first. Part of the Lincoln Ryhme books by Jeffery Deaver. This was a movie, which I saw, with Denzel Washington - he was that parapalegic detective who co-starred with Angelina Jolie. I may have to rewatch the movie when I'm done. I saw it soooo many years ago.

Speaking of movies, me and my daughter - she is six, went and saw Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children last night in 3D. It was awesome. Some might say it is too scary for a six year old, but she loved it and she got really into the story. She also loved The Jungle Book movie, which was epic. Some would say that it is also too much, but she also was absolutely thrilled by it. It was sooooo amazing.

message 3045: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments And we did get some wind today, but did not loose power. A neighbors big tree did uproot and fall over, but it missed house and powerline. There was some flooding in the streets last night but I was so relieved I didn't get any flooding in my basement. That happened to me last year on Hallowwen night - the only time in the 14 years I've owned my house.

message 3046: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Glad everything's okay Sarah! A co-worker told me they went to see Miss Peregrine's in 3D the other day and also said it was really good. Glad your daughter enjoyed it as well!

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Also for your 2 books - Rosewood Casket and Ballad of Frankie Silver. They are #4 and #5 in series as well as the idioms so trying to figure out if they would be better used for the weapons rather than idioms. Put it down for weapons for now but haven't set anything in stone yet.

FYI -

After much discussion on the Captain's Board and a talk amongst the mods, tournaments will no longer be a part of Emerge the Victor.

Instead there will be monster boss cards and some other things added to replace this part of the game. Kelly and the other mods and still working on those details and getting them added for teams to do. Once the new parts have been finalized and added, we will provide you with those details.

However, since the tournaments were originally going to be starting tomorrow, I at least wanted to let everyone know about the change in the game.
