Angela - I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book. I did not love it. I just think there are too many other great books to get to.

Team,

Unless there is some strong objection, I think we are going to discard the essential oil card.

It seems like a lot of work for not much of a pay off at this point in the game. I think our efforts would be better spent on the other cards worth more Exp, potions, and gold.

Sarah | 3273 comments I am listening to Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman and wondering if it could work for ADAPTABILITY - It is a memoir of essays about the writer's life where she is telling the stories of adapting to her life as she navigates her life journey starting as a young fat kid to blossoming into a strong femenist comedian and advocate who grows to accept herself and inspire others.

CARD 1
The local fool is wandering around town speaking in riddles... or at least you think they're riddles. He keeps talking about wanting a cup of joe but you can't figure out how Joe (the 300 pound farmer down the road) could fit in a cup. Then he told you to eighty-six the moldy bread and you told him who would want eighty six pieces of moldy bread... Then he started talking about having a field day with the new rat stew recipe in the tavern but he wasn't even in the field that day. You really must help him regain his sanity so he doesn't keep spouting off gibberish.

Angela | 504 comments I'm listening to The Reader which can work for Acceptability (MC agrees to terms laid out by his mistress to keep their relationship). Also reading Under the Udala Trees, where religion plays a role in the plot (MC's mom tries to use their religious beliefs to change the fact that she's gay).

Sarah, I really enjoyed this book. I'd highly recommend it. It's not my typical genre, being southern gothic with a young protagonist, but the plot was fast and totally engaging. Very well written and the emotional pull was surprising. I don't know if you listen to audiobooks, but if you do, this makes for a good listen because of the quick pace.

message 3269: by Sarah (last edited Nov 03, 2016 08:15AM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Wow - this book is packing a punch. O.k. maybe I can be the first to recommend Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. Only four chapters in, but there is a lot of hype around this debut novel, and the ratings are quite high on Goodreads and Amazon. I will be stunned if this book isn't up for all the literary awards. It is an intense one, but probably the best book I have read on slavery, a family saga, spanning around two hundred years, all packed into only 300 pages. I don't know how this is a debut novel. This is an author to watch out for, and this is the book to read, for sure.

On this one, I would recommend the read not the audio, so one can refernce the family tree diagram.

CARD 5
The Queen calls you in and since it's the Queen you of course drop everything and rush to the castle. When you arrive she pulls you aside and confesses her current disaster. "I'm set to go on another date with Prince Archer and I have nothing to wear!" Alarmed at the emotional distress of the Queen, you assure her that you'll work on the problem right away. As you start to back away, she pins you with a glare. "And I've heard about what those swindlers did to that Emperor who wanted new clothes so don't think you'll be getting away with that scam." You stammer a response and then flee to investigate new fabrics and ribbons.

Tasks:
•Read a book first published in 2016.
•Read a book with clothing on the cover to acquire a nice selection of fabrics to construct the Queen's new clothing.

Rewards:
•3 Experience

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 913 comments I'd like to change a couple of books.

One of the main characters in Aunt Dimity's Christmas is Father Julian, a priest, so it would be better placed for a 'religious figure'

I am reading Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil which has the word paper on p. 170 "caught my breath as my fingertips touched paper" and can replace the above book for paper in text. I will have that finished shortly.

Then I will be reading The Unexpected Bride which is an inspirational romance, so it fits for "religion plays a part in the story"

message 3272: by Sarah (last edited Nov 03, 2016 10:50AM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I was gonna listen to Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner next - it has fabric on the cover - clothing. Also my book Homegoing is a 2016, but it is being used for having gold in the text. So I would think if it needs to be subbed out it wouldn't be difficult to find another book with gold in the text.

message 3273: by Cathy M. (last edited Nov 03, 2016 11:05AM) (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments I've updated the working sheet with everything listed above. There are a couple where there were duplicates (more than 1 person stating they would read for it) - religion plays a part in the story, acceptability. So I just left it at who stated they would read for it first. If you are set at reading the books you listed, we can always use them for more gold if we can't find a task for it.

Please keep in mind we only have about 3 1/2 days left of the game so if you are not sure if you can finish something, let us know!

End of Wobble Timer

It was a phrase I assumed was idiom, but I also couldn't find. Guess I can't just rely on my knowledge.

However, I found another one in the book on p. 50

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Yea only 2 days left! It's a little bittersweet - glad it's over but sad at the same time. I looked forward to all the new games/challenges and really enjoyed most of them. But I for one am looking forward to reading at a more leisurely pace and for more time to do other things (like catch up on all my tv shows)! I thought I would stop with the cozy mysteries but they are great for my NRPG so might read some more to level up my staff some more.

We are pretty solidly in 3rd place, which I don't think will change in the next 2 days, so I'd say we did an AMAZING job!!

Shanna_redwind | 598 comments I had a lot of fun playing. I will be sad when it's all over. I hope something similar will pop up sometime in the (near) future.

I am going to miss all of this and everyone too! I feel very lucky to be captain of this team. We may have lost a few members along the way but this has been the best team I've been a part of.

If they end up doing Tower Teams, I want to ask for the mods to just keep us as a team. :)

I am looking forward to a slower reading pace but I will miss the crazy fun of Wobble.

CARD 2

You've never been one to try to outdo everyone else. No one really needs to go a whole 20,000 leagues under the sea when 5,000 is plenty. You're quite sure after traveling 5,000 leagues that there's really nothing more that would surprise you down there. You've seen all the fish, sunken ships, sharks and mermaids that you could ever care to see in the sea. Just make sure to take some pictures so you can have a few rounds bought for you at the Tavern after you've returned.
Travel 5,000 leagues and take pictures! Reserve a wonderful spot at the tavern for all your stories.
Leagues may be traveled by reading books. To determine the amount of leagues traveled by a single book, round down to the nearest 100 pages, then calculate 2 to the power of the number of hundreds of pages. (Hint: use the xy button on the calculator)
Examples: 512 page book -> 5 hundred pages -> 2^5 = 32 leagues
(If not all spots are needed, x out all columns)

Tasks:
•Book 1
•Book 2
•Book 3
•Book 4
•Book 5
•Book 6
•Book 7
•Book 8
•Book 9
•Book 10

In the interest of time, I'm going to discard this in hopes of getting a monster card or something with only a couple tasks.

I don't think any of us is up to reading a 1200 page book in less than a day and a half. And we have no banked books to throw at it.

So I'm just going to cut our losses.

Tower Teams is another group reading challenge that lasts usually a few months.

You get points for books read based on page length of the books. That's where the name comes from, because people read a 'tower of books'. And the game ends whenever the first team reaches a certain number of points (last year was 25,000). I think it went about 3 months or so last year.

Here's a link to the basic rules from last year: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

But I'm not sure if the mods are up to it this or not after Wobble. Those ladies are probably looking for a break!
