YA Combo Challenge - Any Ideas??

Example.
1. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
2. Fairy Tale by Cyn Balog
3. Shrimp by Rachel Cohn
4. A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
5. Life History of a Star by Kelly Easton

1)I was thinking for the Official YA challenge section (or even the "shelves" I guess) we could have a task to read an adult book we think good for YA, since that is a common topic.
2) For author's last names, for one task I was thinking we could break the alphabet into 3 chunks, and have everyone read three books, one from each chunk.
3)Or we could do a sort of carry over thing with multiple books using the first and last name, where the first letter of the last name has to be the first letter of the author on the next book, or vice versa.
ie. Using last name to first name:
Book One: Marcus Zusak
Book Two: Zora Neale Hurston (using 'Z' from Zusak)
Book Three: Haruki Murakami (using 'H' from Hurston)
(and would you look at that, I brought it back around to M for Marcus, didn't even mean to. These aren't necessarily YA, I know, but for my purposes...)
Or going first name to last name:
Book One: J.K. Rowling
Book Two: Roald Dahl (using 'R' from Rowling)
Book Three: Darren Shan
Or maybe that's just too complicated... :)
4) Or they could match:
Book One: M. T. Anderson
Book Two: Maya Angelou
For Newbery List:
5) We could read the winner and one of the Honor books from the same year and see if we agree with the choice the committee made.
or
6)We could have a "who would you give the Newbery to?" for the past couple of years, maybe 2006-present, and say who you think deserved to win over who did win and why.
or
7) we could read and winner or honor book and give a full review of it, including our thoughts on its award status, and provide the link.
8)For a lower point shelves task, we could get a recommendation for a book we've never read in a genre we've never read from someone on here who reads and loves that genre.
I'm sure I will have more. ;)
Jennifer, that would make a really good high pointer! Because I will use as just one task, do you think it would work with just 3 consecutive author last names?
Misty, those all sound awesome. I am going to start creating the list and rules and I will see where else I need help.

Awesome. Do you guys think we should include page numbers again? There aren't going to be prizes, so I don't really think it is necessary...

I need one more Newbery task with medium difficulty... any ideas?
Also, would someone mind taking a look at the challenge and seeing if there is something that doesn't make sense or should be changed? I can send it in a message.

As I said before, I'll help with whatever you need, and I can normally get back to you fairly quickly.
As for a Newbery task, what about rereading your fave Newbery winner, or reading a winner recommended to you by a child, teacher or Librarian (someone more likely to be familiar with the winners) and discuss it with them, then tell us about it.
Jennifer... Misty sent me some suggestions, so after I am finished updating the tasks, a second pair of eyes would be nice. I will send it to you in your goodreads messages. :) Thanks for your help!
I was thinking, too for the Newbery task we could have people read 2 consecutive years' winners (2000 and 2001 for example) and see if there's a commonality between winners.

Thanks Kristen! I'm hoping to have the tasks posted by the end of the day, so everyone can start their lists.
:) Hopefully it turns out fun and challenging!

It will end October 31. I will fit a horror/gothic novel into the shelves section. How does that sound?
Fiona, I believe this thread can be closed now. Anything further will be in the Tasks and Discussion Thread. :) Thanks Mod!
