Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 87 comments I posted this in a section in the archives too but Bast really should have his own page. My central question is his lineage and how did he end up as Kvothe’s student.

Kenneth Geary (KagedBooks) (kagedbooks) | 87 comments What if it's not a human king at all that Kvothe killed? Fellow with me here for a second.

Bast is seemingly in awe of Kvothe right?

Bast title is Bastas, son of Remmen Prince of Twilight and the Telwyth Mael.

If he is the prince of twilight, his father would be the King of twilight right?

So what if Remmen was an abusive father and 'rescued' Bast by killing the King of Twilight? Which is why he looks up to Kvothe.

Zach | 29 comments I think he kills one of the seven and that's why Bast looks up to him. Since no one else has yet to kill them. Also what if Ambrose is the poet king and since he knows how the Cthae works he purposely doesn't kill him and that is why he feels like he failed because Ambrose unleashed something and he could have stopped him.

Wouldn't that make Bast the King of Twilight?

no, i feel he is as loyal as a dog.Metaphorically speaking. I haven't read the novella, but from the book it's apparent.

somehow to me he seems more like snake alike...
I Keep feeling that he's pretending all the time.
I don't trust him.
I think his enchantment is more than physical

LOL, I think it's worth mentioning that Bast is clearly not King as he still titles himself Prince. With that deduction, we can assume either his father is alive, he is not a first born son, or his father is not a king at all and in fact, his MOTHER is a queen.

I'm not sure Fae work on the same male dominated tradition of medieval European hierarchy.

I personally think the latter more likely since they separate the fact he is the prince and the fact he is the son of Remmen. Though I may be wrong, since son of Remmen does precede his title of prince.

Billy | 51 comments In my opinion, Kenneth might be on to something there. I agree that Bast would not be the eldest son, which is why he is still Prince of the Twilight. But that would explain the "demon" spiders coming to the human world and attacking humans. Kvothe may have inadvertently started an inter-planar war between the Fae and humans by killing the King of the Twilight.
