§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments Dove winded the string back around the yo-yo, having tried all day to make the motion of throwing it down then having it come back to her hand. "We could go to the park." She suggested, her eyes fixed down as she focused on the toy, walking down the sidewalk with the others. "Or we could see about getting some bus fair and going to the lake." She grimaced and countered her second idea, "We're not getting in the water this time though."

Everett burst with laughter, remembering the last time they went to the lake. Dove had gotten shoved into the water, then was scolded by the driver when she stepped onto the bus dripping wet. "I think we should all get in the water this time." He joked with a grin, then added to the proposal. "We can ask my mom for bus fair." He said, "Though she isn't feeling good."
The four walked together on the side walk in front of the townhouses Everett lived in. It was a nice day, with a subtle breeze and lots of unintimidating clouds in the sky. Leaves and cut grass covered the sidewalk they followed, accompanied with the feeling of knowing that school would be starting again hanging over their heads.

Constance rolled her eyes some, she was standing on the right hand side of Everett. "I don't think it's a good idea to go back to the lake," she whispered softly. She always had been the most cautious of the three. "I knew we were going to get yelled at. I knew it was a bad idea," she whispered softly. Her eyes drifted to where her feet were stepping, she was really shy. "Maybe we could go to the arcade again?"

Blake shook his head no and laughed a little bit. "Remember last time? Constance, your machine almost exploded." He looked at them all as he was walking in behind them, which he didn't mind.

"That wasn't my fault they had electrical problem, that's what my parents said and all of you guys." Constance whispered softly.

Blake smiled and raised his eyebrows. "What if we go into Constance's locked attic and explore?" He paused, "It doesn't matter what we do we always have fun." As long as he recalled everything they done together turned out to be fun.

((That's fine, I was thinking maybe a letter was locked away in the attic?))

onceuponatimeareview | 4906 comments Mod
((Would, there parents have been wizards? I was thinking if they were then they would have some things locked away and they left the Wizarding World, but we could do have the letter on the front step. It doesn't matter to me.))

onceuponatimeareview | 4906 comments Mod
((Okay, yeah I agree.))

§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments Dove looked up, taking a slower pace and came to Blake's side, playfully bumping her side against his, "Constance's parent(s) are home though, aren't they?" She asked, not being one to care enough about things to snoop in that way. She threw the yo-yo down again and grumbled as it swung down and hit her knee, "Is your mom ok?" She asked Everett.

Everett shrugged and kicked a rock on the sidewalk, "She's been acting really weird lately. She said I don't have any chores for the rest of the month! She woke up today with a sore throat though." He kicked the rock whenever he walked but up to it, then watched as the mail truck drove by and parked in front of the rent office a ways ahead. "I could at least grab the mail. Lets go give it to her then get a snack!" He said, then took off running towards the rent office with a wide grin.

onceuponatimeareview | 4906 comments Mod
Blake smiled at Dove. "I have no clue, but if they aren't that's even better." He glanced over to Everett. "Lucky, my parents wouldn't even do that."

Constance shook her head. "They aren't home today, Everett's parents are watching me until later," she whispered. Her parents were never home, they were always busy with their work. Blake took off following Everett to the rent office. "Guys be careful there's cars and million things that could happen." she said softly.

Blake tossed his eyes to the side and shook his head as ran. "Come on guys, last one there is a rotten egg."

§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments Dove laughed, taking Constance's hand and took off after the boys.

Everett walked into the rent office first and halted the moment he stepped inside, giving a couple of pants and a small laugh as the others then joined him. He walked up to the open door that led to a space behind the mailboxes, poking his head inside and paid the mailman a big grin, knowing him as a regular.
"Tell your mom I hope she gets to feeling better." The mailman said, handing Everett the small stack then watched as Dove approached him.
"Thank you." She said with a cheeky smile, handing him the yo-yo then followed as Everett walked back to the door and out of the rent office. He looked down at the yo-yo, somewhat dumbfounded, unknowing Dove only gave it to him so she wouldn't worry herself with it anymore.
"Bills. Bills. Bills." Everett mumbled, taking to a stroll back on the sidewalk, flipping through the letters, "Nothing."

onceuponatimeareview | 4906 comments Mod
Constance huffed a little bit when she arrived to the rent office. It seemed like they just arrived and they were leaving again.

Blake looked at him. "Well, grown ups only seemed to get bills," he said to Everett. "I wish one of these days that us kids would get mail." His green eyes flickered to Dove noticing that she didn't have her yo-yo anymore. "Got tired of the yo-yo?" he asked thoughtfully moving beside Dove.

Constance just stayed behind them, not really having anything much to say to them. For her, it always seemed like Dove, Everett, and Blake always had something interesting to say. "I hope your mom feels better soon, Everett I would hate to have one my parents be sick." Secertly she wished that stepping on a crack would break her mother's back, but it never did.

§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments Dove continued to hold Constance's hand as they followed the boys through the rent office and back out again, then making their way down the sidewalk, led by Everett who was homeward bound. She looked over at Blake when he took to her side and asked about the toy. "Yeah. I didn't feel like putting it in my pocket." She answered, then looked over as Constance spoke.

Everett glanced back at her and grumbled unpleasantly, "She's not dying." He said, "She always gets all gross and sick around this time of year. She'll be alright." He blubbered and hopped up the steps to the front door of his town house.
Dove let go of Constance's hand as they walked up the steps, then watched as Everett picked up a letter that was placed on the doormat.
"Woaw. It's got a red thing on it." Everett said, turning for the others to see. The letter was made of fine parchment with a red stamp seal. "And its got may name on it." Everett's eyes were huge with curiosity.

onceuponatimeareview | 4906 comments Mod
Constance looked down. "I never said she was dying, I just said I would hate to have my parents be sick." she lied, she would love to have her parents sick because she never got to see her parents. She stayed behind the others as they looked curiously at the letter. It wasn't like she was curious about it, she was, but it could be something dangerous. "I wonder who it is from?"

Blake ran up beside Everett he smiled at the letter. "Open it! Open it!" he said with a smile. This was one of the most exciting things ever. "You got a mail a kid got mail!!!!" Blake couldn't believe his eyes this letter was the fanciest thing he ever saw. "Whoever sent this must be rich."

§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments Everett opened the door and rushed inside, taking to the kitchen table where he quickly climbed onto a chair and tossed the rest of the mail onto the table carelessly. Blake was making him even more excited with his insistence to open the mail and look inside.
"Hog- Hog- Hog- Warts." Everett sounded out the word from the stamp on the letter. "That's a stupid word."

Dove looked at the letter, then over at Constance as she defended herself. She stepped back and huffed as Blake egged Everett on, then took off inside to open the letter. "Come on." She said, letting Constance inside then closed the door behind them. She went on to join the boys in the kitchen, curious, though not enough to run.

The inside of the townhouse was clean, though lived in. Their parents were friends of course, though all had different styles of parenting. Everett didn't know where his dad was, and knew he had an older brother out there somewhere. His mom was a bit air headed, like himself, though she was incredibly loving, and worked hard for them both. She interacted with the kids whenever they came around, being like family to them as well.

onceuponatimeareview | 4906 comments Mod
"Thank you." she whispered to Dove as she waited for her. Constance followed Dove into the townhouse and tilted her head to the side. "Hogwarts?" she whispered to herself confused by the name. She wasn't quite excited about the letter, it was just a letter. "Guys its just a letter, nothing important." he said to them. She hopped on the bar stole in the kitchen. "So Everett what does it say?" Asking as she glanced at it for the first time getting an up close look.

Blake smiled as he ran into the kitchen, though careful not to run too hard, not wanting to wake up Everett's sleeping mother. "I wonder what Hogwarts. I mean it could be anything really? Maybe Hogs with warts." He laughed at his own joke. He hoped up on the bar stole as Constance did. "It looks like something official, though." He said as he was thinking out loud.

§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments After Constance sat, Dove climbed up and sat on the table, planting her palms behind her, leaning back to get a look as well, even though there wasn't too much to see.
Everett looked between them as they spoke then looked back down quickly, breaking the seal, seeing that whatever was inside would answer all their questions. He pulled out the paper and read it aloud at his own slow pace, "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizard..." He struggled on the word wizardry for a moment, though knew they got the point and continued. "Dear Mr. Kissin. We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardrrryyy. Please find ennnclosed a list of a-"

Everett's head shot up when his mother groggily walked into the kitchen. Even though his mother wasn't one for punishment, also considering how little serious trouble Everett got into, he'd never opened the mail before, and was afraid he wasn't supposed to.
"Hello." She shuffled in and took the empty seat beside Constance and shooed at Dove's feet.
Dove crisscrossed her legs, scooting back and leaned her back against the wall.
"We got the mail, Ms. George." Dove said, no hiding what they'd done.

Ms. Georgina was a short, thin woman, moving into her late 30s. Time and work took it's tole on her, crows feet developing on the corners of her eyes and wrinkles occurring with her facial expressions. She sat beside Constance with a shawl wrapped tight around her shoulders, and gross, sticky eyes that glared towards the table as they adjusted. "Did you?" She said, obviously tired and ill.

Constance looked up at Ms. Geroge and smiled. "Hi, Ms. Geroge I hope you get feeling better soon." Constance looked up at her and smiled softly. "Everett even got some mail, a letter from this place called Hogwarts. It's a fancy letter. I never saw a really fancy letter before, but this one sure is." Constance started to ramble some and Blake nudge her in a stomach and gave her a look to be quiet. She quickly shut her mouth and started to fidget in her chair.

Blake sighed and shook his head. It wasn't like they were hiding anything, but he felt that Everett should be the one to tell his mother about the letter, not Constance. He adjusted himself on the seat reaching for some cookies out of the cookie jar. Blake had a good childhood, his parents were happily married. It wasn't like Everett or Constance's situations where they either didn't see their parents or didn't know one of them. The hand pulled back out of the cookie jar and took a bite out of it.

((Sorry it took so long, also sorry that this is a short I'm currently on mobile.))

§†êl͓̽l͓̽åꝈนຖå (fallaciousgod) | 49 comments Ms. George's face went even more pale than it already was, "Hogwarts?" She said.
"Look." Everett held out the letter to her, hoping she'd read it to them.
She took the paper and stood, immediately making her way out of the kitchen, then stopped before she got to the door and turned back on her heels.
Everett grumbled, "Hey." He blubbered while she went off with his letter.
She walked back over, picking up the envelope and the rest of the mail from the table, "I'm sorry." She apologized sincerely.
Dove maintained her weird look towards Ms. George, wondering why she was asking so strange.
"I'm afraid this may have been a prank of some sort. Let me look it over. Thank you for getting the mail." Ms. George went on to explain and paid them a soft smile, "Stay if you need. Please don't play the television too loud." She gave Everett a kiss on the side of the head then walked out of the kitchen, going back to her bedroom and shut the door behind her.

Everett continued to blubber with disappointment, "She took my letter." His cheek was smooshed against his palm with his elbow supported on the table.
Dove slid the cookie jar towards him after Blake had helped himself, and after Everett took a cookie, she offered the jar to Constance. "It does sound like a prank though." She said.

Ms. George picked up her phone and made a group dial, calling the other children's parents.
"Everett found his letter... Yes, the other children saw it too... I said it was likely a prank... I don't know... No, I've been in bed all day... You're right. We'd be getting letters till the children found out anyhow... I don't know... Alright... Alright... We'll sit down with them... together... Alright... Thank you... Alright... b'bye."
