I loved The Lord of the Rings (the movie first, the books next) and the hobbit (the book first, the movies next) and The Children of Hurin became my next read from Tolkien's collection.
Tolkien isn't for everyone; his prose is distinct, the characters and the worlds complex and an entire language made up - all of this means that the reading tends to be slow, some times even a struggle.
But more than that, this story wasn't all that captivating and powerful - not the stuff that a movie can be made of - it left me feeling like it was a story for a child, albeit a very sharp one given all the complexities of language, but lacking in drama and twists.
