Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I really should be joining again this month but everything has gone a bit to pot as far as my NetGalley reading plan goes. I might just lurk and cheer everyone else on while despairing at my plummeting rating :)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Aww, That's okay, plenty of time to get it back up again next month!

message 53: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Question! Do you guys have much experience with Penguin imprints? Almost three months ago I requested a book but they never approved or declined, and now it's getting closer to the pub date. Do they just not decline people and let things expire/archive, are they just waiting until closer to pub date to release the ARCs, or something else entirely? I'm not expecting anyone to know know, of course, but I'm wondering if it's a common thing with them.

Kristie | 3595 comments Not sure this is any help at all, but I've had may books that I never got a response for and they just archive without a response from different publishers. I had one book that sat there for 2 months without a response, then they approved me.

I currently have three sitting on my shelf that I requested from April 14th to June 2nd from different publishers and none of them have responded yet. The one that I requested from Penguin Group on April 14th, I already borrowed from the library and reviewed it here on Goodreads. Another is from Flatiron Books (requested May27th) and it publishes and archives July 26th. The third is Random House Children's (requested June 2nd), which doesn't publish and archive until August 30th.

Thanks for your response - it's nice to know I'm not alone! I won't expect too much, then, though I will hold out a thread of hope. :)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I didn't even know the ones you've requested and not heard back from show in your shelves! Honestly, I've been avoiding the big publishers because my percentage is so low I assume to be knocked back by them ;)

Kind of! If you click on your little profile picture at the top one of the options is "activity", where you can see pending requests.

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead by Colson Whitehead

Overhyped, big buzz, best of '16 books that had me disappointed:

Oh wow, yeah having a look at that I can see how that would be disappointing if over hyped. Sad to hear it.

Darnnit, I am back down to 70% after posting one review and being accepted for two more books! Ah, the life of a NetGalley addict.

I'm glad you enjoyed that one Madeline! I actually own a physical copy of it that I got in a crate for my summer reading book club, but I'll try to remember to comment on your review after I'm done soon.

Madeline (maddyd51)

Another one down! I highly recommend this one to sci-fi fans.

Central Station by Lavie Tidhar

This brings my percentage to 72% because I got approved for a few. Still maintaining though! My percentage has not gone below 70 percent since I started the challenge, which has been great.

I am only four more books away from getting caught up through May publication dates. However, one of those is City of Mirrors and I have to read the first two in the series before I can tackle it. I might just give myself a pass on that one and get to it after listening to them on audio....

Next up: The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley

I read the previous two books so I could read this one. I'm glad I did as each book builds on the previous one. They are very good urban fantasy, and I recommend the series.

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Just finished my 3rd book for this challenge and I'm so so sad to realise we are so far through the month already!! I stil have so many more books I want to read before August *weeps happily*

message 71: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I just picked up Caillou Goes to School by Anne Paradis for my grandson. We are staying in a hotel and didn't bring any bedtime books! Well...none for him. ;) It was cute. Pretty much your average children's book.

I'm so happy NetGalley had a bunch of children's books listed as read now so that we could get it right away. I clicked on it, read it, and reviewed it within minutes. It didn't effect my ratio at all. Still at 81%

I have also read and reviewed 3 books, but I am also disappointed in myself. I know that if I read harder I can knock out at least another 3 book hopefully! Happy Reading and good luck Nicole!

message 73: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I put one of my Netgalley books back on my TBR shelf today, its not that I didn't like it ,its just that the last few days I've been worrying about something and I just couldn't enjoy it like I wanted to, so I'm going to start another one today , since I've decided that I'm just not going to worry like I have been.

message 74: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Marcelina, I am 67% through a new book so definitely four, and possibly five before end of month. Fingers crossed!

Meanwhile, however, I haven't seen any new titles I'm interested in for a couple of days, so maybe I shouldn't rush through these reads too much...

message 75: by Lara (new)

Lara | 676 comments And, I was just approved for 2 more books today. Why do I keep requesting them when I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with my reading plans already?

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I've gone from 36% to 25% *laughs*

message 83: by Lara (new)

Lara | 676 comments So, I just went to post my review for Path of Fate by Diana Pharaoh Francis and found that I've been approved for Shadow Falling (The Scorpius Syndrome, #2) by Rebecca Zanetti . Well, I've been wanting to read her books. It was disappointing that I wasn't able to make an impact on my ratio though.

Lara | 676 comments Late last night I finished Warrior King (Odyssey One, #5) by Evan C. Currie and when I went to post my review on NG, I found myself "shopping" for new books. Hmm, maybe that's part of my problem.

Great review. Marcelina. :) I thought about picking this one up, but wasn't sure. If I can get through any of my NetGalleys this month and it's still there, I may request it after all.

Thank you Connie and Kristie. I tend to be my "worst critic" and thought that my review might have been a little bit underdeveloped and it coil have been longer; but your ladies words have boosted my confidence haha :p

Good luck with your own personal challenges as we'll. I'm ashamed to say that I went "shopping" yesterday on NG and requested a bunch of anticipated reads. I got approved for the top 2 ones that I really wanted so I was excited. Yet I know that I want to reach my goal I have to slow down at least a little bit, take a brethren and just say "not everything is for me to read" haha :p

Well...I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed. I started reading The Invisible Library over 3 weeks ago and only made it to 30%. I finally had to give up on it. Everyone seems to love it and I just could not get into it at all. I was really looking forward to this one and was really excited to read it, but that just fizzled when I couldn't connect with the book.

My review:

message 91: by Lara (new)

Lara | 676 comments Kristie, I've had that experience with books others loved. While I did enjoy The Invisible Library, it took me longer than I expected to get into it, and it never really grabbed me (except maybe at the end).
