I just finished the book that I've had on my list the longest--at least a year! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Noir (The Illumination Paradox, #2) by Jacqueline Garlick

I read Blood Moon (Insolita Luna #1) by M.J. O'Shea for this challenge, figuring that if it was good I would go ahead and request the next two. But unfortunately for me (though perhaps fortunately for my NetGalley ratio?!), I did not like it. :/

message 106: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I have a question for everyone:

What do you do when you don't like it? Just rate it as a 1 star on Netgalley, or do you not finish it and leave that as feedback?

I have had the wonderful experience of loving everything I've read from them so far, but eventually my luck is going to run out..

I've done both Nicole, although 1 star is a rarity. I usually find a reason for 2 stars. But if I can't finish it, then I don't and I give that feedback without a star rating

message 108: by Kazen (last edited Jul 28, 2016 02:19PM) (new)

Kazen Nicole, if I can't bring myself to finish it I say why in the feedback (not what I expected, dealbreaker trope, couldn't get into the story, whatever) and give no stars. I save the one star rating for books that genuinely make me mad and luckily I haven't had any of those on GR NG yet. ;)

I always give a rating and a review, even if it's only 1 or 2 stars. My review says it all, like or dislike. I don't think I've ever left a book unfinished. Some kind of compulsion, I guess, to finish whatever I've started. Even if I have to put it down and pick it up again at another time.

message 110: by Lara (new)

Lara | 676 comments I read a post by an author I admire about how even negative reviews can be helpful. It's possible that what you hated I like or don't care about. Also, if the feedback is specific, then the author can learn from it. Or, it's possible the you weren't the right audience as well.

message 111: by Madeline (new)

Madeline (maddyd51) I try to think about what someone who would like it would like about it. I still give it a three star in that case, usually. However, if I DNF it, I write a review on NetGalley explaining why, with one star, and say I have a policy of not posting negative reviews on my blog. No response from the publisher. (It was Wreck and Order, by the way).

In other news, one more review down! I reviewed The Children here. ****

Let's not talk about my percentage.... I was really on an upward trend there, but hit a reading slump over the last week.

message 112: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Who talks about their percentages in this group?? Nope not relevant. More books!

Actually, I'm surprised by how many big publishers are approving books for me despite my low percentage.

message 113: by Madeline (new)

Madeline (maddyd51) I like to think the quality of my reviews is more important than my percentage. However, I am a rule follower (upholder, if you're a Gretchen Rubin fan) and not meeting the 80 percent drives me a little batty. I have to let it go!

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah haha you don't hear anyone here about percentages, although we probably internally complain about it. It's gotten to the point where I inwardly sigh in relief when I get rejected for a book. (I'm not crazy for any of them that are pending requests haha):p Does anyone else react like this?

Nicole I also think that publishers look at your # of approved in total which if you have that high that might give them more incentive/willingness to approve you. :-)

Christaaay (christaaay) NetGalley Review

Hello NetGalley reviewers! Your posts inspired me to give this a shot.

During July, I reviewed my first my Netgalley book, 1/9 I've been approved for. My feedback ratio is 11%. I need to get reading! :)

Here's my first review: Split the Sun

In August, I plan to review three more NetGalley books- The Children of Icarus, The Thief of Kalimar & The Continent.

Good luck to everyone with their reviews!

Going to see my new Dr on 8/9/16 because the ER Dr said I have an ovarian cyst on my right ovar, that's why I've been hurting on and off.
