Cynthia, is it Emma? She looks more demure than I had picture her, but the dark hair, centre parting and embroidery make me think it's her.

It is a portrait of a woman that often served a book cover of various editions of Madame Bovary throughout the years, but it is not Emma (that's the reason why I asked the question).

Actually it is the portrait of Delphine Delamare . This is the person who inspired Flaubert his character of Emma.
