Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 2717 comments So, I just signed up for a challenge that has an aspect that asks for cover colors, specifically ROYGBIV (Whatever the Weather). Full disclosure, I am colorblind (Red-green deficient to be exact) and have trouble distinguishing red in hues - ie purple and blue usually look the same. My question concerns the color indigo. Mainly, would any of these covers be considered indigo?
The Dragon Machine (Magebreakers #3) by Ben S. Dobson Before the Broken Star (The Evermore Chronicles #1) by Emily R. King Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness

Thanks!

Tineye might help here, if you get the link of cover image and paste on here it will come up with percent on all the colours listed. I checked those you posted and none of them mentioned Indigo, although I'd say the first one fit as is various shades. Hope it helps xx

Sandy | 316 comments hi sorry I have a question on the spellouts book title item. Does the first letter of the first word of the title have to be the letter you are spelling or can it be the first letter of any word in the title?

The Red Knight - can it work for a K or an R?

It's an R.

A, An and The are excluded.

Sandy | 316 comments oh boy - I think I have a lot of rework to do - thanks for the info - most of the other challenges were specific about the books - not the title author etc.

You can always refer to Standard Challenge Rules - PLEASE READ. The spell out rules are in there.

Some of the older challenges were not written as I would write them and do not include a link to the standard rules. :)

message 113: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 316 comments It is entirely my fault as I did read the rules but read it as the first letter in the title -(any word in the title) of the book - and obviously that is not what is meant. Not sure how I came to think of it that way but probably because it is the first letter of the author - first or last name - even though the example doesn't show that (doh). In my fuddled thinking - that made sense. lol No biggie - thanks for the clarity.

DO you mean add the titles to a message box? If so, on the right side of the message box it says add book/author . Click on that and add your title where it says book. Then hit add and it is in your message. There is also an option to add a cover at the bottom.

Mint | 31 comments Hi! I'm looking at doing the 31 Flavors challenge and was curious about how the levels worked. If I finished one level and decided I wanted to do a higher one in the future, is that okay? Or do I need to set my goal as the highest I could see myself doing?

Right now, I'm thinking of going with the Small Scoop level (the lowest one) to see how I like this challenge. I don't know if I want to saddle myself with something larger like Medium or Large when I don't know if I'd enjoy the challenge yet, but at the same time I wouldn't want to rule doing them out completely at some point in the future.

In this group you are allowed to go up or down in levels. You can play challenges many times if you wish as long as the challenge is still active. :)

Each challenge is separate so you can use the same book for multiple challenges - you just usually can't use it for more than 1 prompt within each individual challenge (Scavenger hunts being an exception)

What constitutes a New Release? I'm working on These Are the Days and I just finished a book published in September of this year. Is that too old to be considered a new release?

Ugh that is annoying!
My library has a special thing they do with new books. It gets a special note in the slipcover and you can only check it out for a week and have to return it. I was the first person to get Billy Summers when it came out and I was one day away from finishing it so I returned it and my dad checked it out so I could finish it. I think the week at a time makes it more fair for everyone to be able to read it.

Wow, JoAnne, your library must not have ordered many copies - or there are a LOT of people who want to read it :) I've started putting holds on every edition in the catalog - regular print, large print, ebook, e-audio - to see which I get first. Then I cancel all the others so the people in line behind get bumped up one number :)

I think they may only have 1 or 2 copies of the ebook. I rarely get print books from the library - there's only one parking space at the library and they aren't open in the morning when I'm usually out.

I rarely get print books as well because our library closes early and I don't get off work until 5:30 most nights. But I have so many books to read as it is, I do find time to check out new releases when I have the chance.

Denise | 544 comments Help!

I have a challenge to read a book where the MC has to put off a large task in order to recover from an illness (say who and what).

I don't want to re-read books I know this happens, anyone think of any books for this?
I don't read horror, romance or sci fi and not much fantasy.
THANK YOU
