Can anyone tell me how I can review a book and NOT have it appear as a post on Facebook, even though I've signed in with Facebook? Is there an independent way to sign in?

Yes, go to "Account Settings", there you have to select the "Apps" tab and you will find all the configuration options for Facebook, per example all "Publishing" options such as when you rate a book or when you add a book. Hope this helps.
