Follow him into the public houses, Mayfair mansions and servants’ quarters of Victorian London, into the intrigues of Parliament and secrets of Oxford. This historical mystery series (set in the 1860s), with its keen eye for period detail and razor-sharp plotting, offers readers an unparalleled brand of charm, sophistication and suspense. In addition there is a recurring ensemble of background characters. (Personally I think it should be called the Melrose Plant series. He seems to do all of the work.)

22/24 Jonathan Gash The adventures of Lovejoy, a British antiques dealer based in East Anglia whose scruples are not always the highest. He does however have a reputation in the antiques trade as a "divvie", meaning one with an almost supernatural talent for recognizing exceptional items as well as for distinguishing fakes or forgeries from genuine antiques.
25/28 M.C. Beaton Agatha Raisin is a frustrated, yet endearing, PR agent who retires from London to Carsley village. Police, even her friend Bill Wong, see more bumbling luck than skill.

I have plenty of 2016 goals to keep me busy. Don't need to keep these Challenges extended past what is necessary for completion....so I'm putting them off until 2017.
Don't panic, I'm not actually gophering for next year yet! ;0)

The titles with asterisks are short stories out of 1 of these 2 books: *The Barrens & Other..."
Is this a recommended reading order? I just finished Cold City which is book one in Repairman Jack: The Early Years. It's a prequel series. I've been trying to decide if I should forego the prequel and jump right in to the main series. A couple of reviews suggested to start with The Tomb.

Daunting Proposition!☺"
Thanks, Almeta. I think I should finish up some of the other series I have on the go before I get carried away with starting this one. It is daunting.

Verse 3
Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the Jester sang for the King and Queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the King was looking down
The Jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lenin read a book on Marx
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singin'

IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID SERIES!
I read a LOT of "first in a series" and never move on from there. Often, once is enough.☻
Holmes On the Range Mystery Series by Steve Hockensmith is pretty entertaining though.
