Those are really excellent comics to start with! I'm hideously behind on Saga and Monstress, but I do plan on catching up once I make it through some of my TBR list (which only seems to get longer, help)

Welcome!

Welcome to the group, Sarah! Have you tried Sleepless, Vol. 1 or Isola, Vol. 1? I also love all the books you mentioned and I find these to be in a similar fantasy vein.

Geoff (geopet) | 31 comments Hey there. I'm Geoff. I live in New Mexico. I've been a fan of comics for much of my adult life. I went heavily digital several years ago (hi Comixology!) but the last few months I have been getting back to reading more floppies and making myself way too well known at my LCS.

My reading preferences are across the board. Traditional super hero, indie, manga, I'll read pretty much anything and I tend to find something to really enjoy out of most of them.

I recently found the I Read Comic Books podcast through another podcast (Link in Bio -- now Favs) and I have been binging through the backlog. I have been taking notes of all the interesting books mentioned that I've missed over the last year and my to-be-read list is getting longer and longer. This is making me very happy.

I've been lurking in this community for a bit and I figured it was time to introduce myself.

Hi, all!

Welcome aboard, Geoff! As someone who has spent a total of three hours since Sunday organizing his floppy collection, I totally respect your digital decisions. Glad to hear you're showing your LCS some love though!

It's great to hear that you're enjoying the show! If you have anything specific you want to tell us, now's a great time- our listener survey is up! Check it out here.

Thanks, Brian! I'm in the process of organizing my floppy collection as well. Are you doing anything different than what we heard you doing on the last episode about the organization?

I'm going to do the survey soon! Thanks for providing the link.

Rachel Anne (racheldespins) | 0 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Rachel from Delaware. I have been reading comic books since 2016 (when I started doing the Read Harder reading challenge) so I'm still a fairly new reader. I even remember the first one I read, that being Persepolis, Volume 1. So far my absolute favorites are The Backstagers, Vol. 1, Descender, Vol. 1: Tin Stars, and The Tea Dragon Society.

I look forward to adding more comic books to my TBR! :)

Solseit | 3 comments Hi Everyone!
I am Solseit, originally from Italy yet lived abroad and still am (in Germany).
I have been exposed to X-Men since I was a child - which are still some of my favorite characters of all times - and I am learning about the Marvel universe slowly by steadily. I am less familiar with the DC universe and certainly everything other than under these major brands.
I am also in love with manga - and I have a soft spot for One Piece and for My Hero Academia.

I also love blogging about stories and draw as much as possible.

I am also happy that I could finally spend time looking for groups dedicated to Comics!

Oneirosophos | 36 comments Hello, it's Orestis from Athens, Greece.

I am a comicworm and a reviewer. I like Disney comics but especially BD's & indies (IDW Transformers forever!!!).

The last two years I am very dissappointed by the newest superhero comics.

message 369: by Chad (last edited Jan 07, 2019 07:54AM) (new)

Chad | 1404 comments Welcome Solseit and Orestis.

There's still some good superhero comics out there. Have you read Tom King's Batman or Tom Taylor's All-New Wolverine run?

message 370: by Solseit (new)

Solseit | 3 comments Hi Chad; I read All New Wolverine - I have the last story line to finish. Yet I loved 4 sisters story! So good - and it introduced yet another fun Wolverine clone to the family of the X-Men!
I will check the Batman story you suggested though - DC is quite obscure for me so I am going to appreciate all the help I can get there!

message 371: by Oneirosophos (new)

Oneirosophos | 36 comments I loved ANW and Gwenpool, but the main crossovers -and especially the awful run in Guardians by Bendis- have brought me to this hiatus.

DC is a mess.

DC was my favorite company when I grew up, and I was amazed by Crisis on Infinite Earths (yeah, I've been reading that long). Since the reboot, IMHO, they've been steadily slipping to the point where I no longer read my favorite character or team (Nightwing, Titans). I hope they pull out of this nosedive soon.

I fell off the DC wagon when they started double shipping a bunch of books I was reading in 2017 like Wonder Woman and Batman. They were too much for me to keep up with (especially with all the crossovers) and weren't consistently enjoyable enough (for me personally - I'm more into Marvel) to justify the cost.

Have any of you enjoyed DC's switch to double shipping?

message 375: by Solseit (new)

Solseit | 3 comments Kate wrote: "Welcome to IRCB Solseit and Orestis! What is your current favorite comic or manga series?"

Manga is certainly My Hero Academia by far. One Piece is in my heart because I was the same age as Luffy when I was first exposed to One Piece (and I used to be a sailor loving the water - and I confess my first anime crush was on Zolo...).

As for comics, I am torn. I am actually liking the issue and a half I read so far of the Uncanny X-Men (2018) #1: Director's Edition with the Dissassembled story line. I also am liking the Thor (2018-) #1 story so far - I am two issues in; here the art (and the coloring especially) is just something else, beautiful. I was trying to prepare for The War of the Realms that is going to be the big storyline of Marvel in the first part of the year.
Also Deadpool (2018-) #1 is quite funny - if I need something super light to just laugh, this is where I go!

And, 2 years with breaks in the middle. What got me into reading them was... Jason Peter Todd. My baby boy. Knowing him brought me to loving DC Comics, haha. (But not much nowadays. Wth are they doing?!)

Yep, Red Hood & The Outlaws was my first comic.

My all-time favorite comic is definitely Batman & Robin ran by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. And yeah, Super-sons too, I guess. I love kids. Huhuhuhu.

I enjoy reading books centering LGBTQ themes, and manga. Anway, there's still so much for me to read! And hopefully, I can start exploring other comic publishing houses as well.

Here are some comics and graphic novels i'd say a worth a look with LGBT Themes
1. Flutter by Jennie Wood
2. Kim & Kim by Magdalene Visaggio
3. Love Is Love by Marc Andreyko and Others
4. Bingo Love by Tee Franklin

You really can't go wrong with anything Peter Tomasi wrote. He's one of DC's unsung heros.

Maja (majax1f422) Hi :) I'm Akkisuitok, 23 years old and a student living in Germany. I've been reading comics since I was a child – my father is a big Marvel collector and it was always normal to have comics around the house.
I used to only read the old stuff we had from the 90s, but in 2016 I wanted to try some newer Marvel things and got hooked on Ms. Marvel (it's so good!). Since then I've been keeping up with newer Marvel comics. I also read a lot of Image stuff and some of the Boom! series (Lumberjanes and Giant Days are my comfort reads), as well as independent things and some webcomics (Stand Still Stay Silent is my favourite).
In general, I like Fantasy and Sci-Fi comics as well as stories with queer (LGBT+) themes.

Ross Keller | 15 comments Hey Y'all :) I'm Ross from Charlotte, NC and I have been reading comics for about 12 years now. I graduated from college a year ago where reading comics was a little tricky due to the fact I was a broke college student. So after 4 years of just re reading my collection and picking up a new trade every once in a while I have landed a job in the real world and can actually afford a pull list again! So with this being said I've gotten back into single issue collecting again as well as sticking with my ole trade and omnibus ways whenever I see something I like or need to catch up. I'm trying to step up my comic reading game in 2019 and get more involved in communities such as this one to share my passion for comics with like minded people! I read anything and everything really but just to name some of my favorite series of all time I'd start with Saga, Amazing Spiderman, Batman/Detective Comics, Descender, Y: The Last Man, Transmetropolitan, Chew, The Walking Dead, Justice League, Ex Machina, and Uncanny Xmen just to name a few. Currently though I am really loving Jeff Lemire's Gideon Falls, anything by Donnie Cates or Brian K Vaughan, Murder Falcon (but anything by Warren Johnson), Scott Snyder's Justice League, Tom King's Batman, Heroes in Crisis and Doomsday Clock. I look forward to meeting other comic book enthusiast and I can't wait to see what you guys have in store for 2019!

message 390: by Devon (new)

Devon Munn (devonmm) | 119 comments Also Ross which comic publishers would be your all time favorites?

message 391: by Ross (new)

Ross Keller | 15 comments Of all time I would have to say 1. DC 2. Image and then 3.Marvel. I was first introduced to comics through DC and their titles were pretty much all I read throughout high school so DC will always be sentimental for me. In college I pretty much exclusively read Image books after I was introduced to the Walking Dead and Saga and fell in love with creator owned comics in general. Lastly, and nothing against Marvel, but they take up the least amount shelf space in my collection currently out of the 3 publishers I've listed. Part of this is because I have Marvel Unlimited so the need to buy Marvel trades/back issues isn't the same as DC and Image but I also just haven't been super into many Marvel comics lately until the new Cate's Venom run and Cosmic Ghost Rider. But some other publishers that are scattered throughout my collection are Aftershock, Vault, Vertigo, and some Dark Horse. As you can see I'm not too biased towards one publisher, I'll buy any comic that's good and worth reading at the end of the day but I've always gravitated more towards DC as Batman and the Justice League were the 2 titles that got me into collecting altogether.
